I really like reddit idea of donating to the Kids Need to Read charity in this thread. Geek related, good cause and they already got the go ahead from the charity!

What a stupid move by Child's Play. Yes... lets stop taking donations for our cause because people misunderstand the connection between the movement and the donations.
Take the freaking money; if you're using it to help people, and people are giving it freely, to cut it off early for this reason is a huge injustice to those you are trying to serve. What a terrible decision. I guess that donation will be my last to Child's Play. There are plenty of other worthy charities who haven't made this mistake. I hope everyone finds one.

At the end of the day, every charity is a business. If they think there is a chance they could lose more in donations than the RetakeME3 movement can possibly raise for them, they are only right to cut the ties. Whether the movement has become too controversial to associate with or whether they have actually received word from their sponsors is irrelevant. It's their duty to put the kids first and I'm glad that's what they are doing.
Needless to say, my donation is staying put. Hell, I just might start throwing some
change into a jar every time I see the mainstream gaming press call us gamers entitled and whiny (while they're eating off of game publishers' plates) and donate the results to Child's Play at the end of the year.
I've always been cynical, but boy.. did I have to drop a lot of gaming sites from my list in the last few days. It's certainly been an eye-opening experience.

About? I cried a bunch - happy tears mind you.
And... I think I have a really good idea for the drive's next step.
It doesn't involve charity drives or PAX, but I think it is good.
I am going to discuss with SoHardcore offline - but stay tuned!

Three times I've cried while playing a video game.
1) Final Fantasy VII when Aeris died when I was like 7.
2) Final Fantasy VIII when squall was alone in the rain calling for his sister when i was 8 or 9.
3) When Mordin hummed scientist salarian as he died, and you can bet I knew about the seashells. After every mission he was the first guy I talked to. I laughed when he had his conversation with Eve about retiring and when he originally sang scientist salarian in Mass Effect 2. Amazing writing. I am now 23.

I posted this a few days ago, but it's now in picture format. This is my way of congratulating and thanking everyone who's been involved in this charity drive:
You're all lovely people. Keep on holding the line!
