Haha... if I listed all the times I shed a tear over this video game.. or others BioWare and other companies made... everyone here would probably think I was pretty pathetic. :)

The best tho... is when we are leaving the house to go somewhere... and my kids insist on me leaving the side door open of the minivan so they can run and jump into the van like Commander Shepard jumping to the Normandy at the end of ME2. Posted Image

Hold the line!

Um...are they little and blue? >_> <_< ^_-

Not refusing...

UN changed the goal to 80K. Once they hit 80K I guess the site came down. (not exactly sure how that works) but - "they" didn't take it down without Unique's consent.

Hold the line! (and rumor control! :) )

The thing is, "retake" introduced a lot of people to this charity who would otherwise not have known about it.

I wonder if they would have let us keep donating if we renamed it to something simpler like "ME Fans for Child's Play" - it is depressing that politics came into play here.

Good job everyone though... 80k is nothing to sneeze at.

aw... i admit i feel a little down, to end suddenly before april ...

Doesn't matter the outcome to the ending (change / add / or nothing), what made it formidable is that people who felt hurt after playng the game, could make something positive in real world, they found strenght to change rusted irion into gold, the world would be a better place if everytime peoples get hurt they could "heal" others instead of complaining for complain only.
Every time i hear people "**** always happend in real life", "life sucks", well yeah, "life" made you only 1 promise when you were born, this promise is "someday, you will die", it's the only "privilege" we are naturaly all granted. But until then, making "living" in this world is up to us and our "moral".

This charity just showed you can take a hit and still make somthing "good" out if it.

I'm proud to have shared this moment with all of you, guys here and there, thousand of km away, separated by ocean, deserts, doesn't matter your diploma, your car, the color of your skin, you who gave genuinly to the cause, it wasn't to show "Bioware this money could have been in your pocket instead", and i know Bioware know it already, the message is much more important, we can build hope, it doesn't cost much, just "a little part of us", and thousand of "little good part" together really impact the world.

I really felt the pain of those how got hit pretty hard by the ending, luckily i wasn't one of you, i was," half spared ". Lot of you comming here, not raging, not pestering like animals, describing your feelings, lack of sleep, lossing appetit, ... tears ... regrets ... it's not kid whinning, it's human distress. I just want to says, you got heard, and some other shared your sadness.
Some people could argue it was just a game, but a game is just only a game? really ?
For Bioware first, they pour their pation, blood and tears inside, your feelings are just the reactor to their own personnal investement over the years. They can't make game like this without the support of their family first (i assure you from my own experience, working in video game industry can be very stressfull, especialy near the release date), then, their fan (us, who invest our money and free time in these entertainement and long saga), because they know millions are waiting their games with high expectation.

So, ME3 did impact the real world after all eh ? May be, it's most important reason lot of us will remember about ME3. And i'm sure even Bioware would never have forsee that kind of outcome.
In one post i already told you, you all looked like a mini avatar of Shepard, you got **** in the face, your even got bashed in some media, totaly misunderstood and taken for a bunch of whinny kids, but like Shep you kep going, doesn't matter what other people said, making your point, convinced other media, other people.

Hehe, i hope Bioware will spare a room for you and grant you some peace in the weeks or month to come, so you can play this awsome game again and again, with a smile on your face, or a tear of emotion after the ending.
Bioware never intended to hurt you, that's for sure, they want people to enjoy their game and they are working hard on it, even if we don't alwayse agree with the path they take.

My only advice, some of you said you were done with rpg, you didn't wanted to get burned twice, please recondiser. Video game is not considered for "child" like 15 years ago, this media have his place among movies and books, an video game can make you feel and see things movies or book canno't, because thei are passive media, and video games are active media.
But please, don't make it "your most source of entertainement", find some pation, hobbies that will never "back fire", in case something go wrong, you will have your "personnal garden" to help you forget those sad experience.

Okay, i'm stopping here, time to sleep.
See you.

Hey ! see you next year for another charity donation ! no petition involved this time, just BSN fan.
Building something good is one thing, keeping it good is even better ; )

I was just thinking, is there a worthy comparison here to the Humble Bundle?
Pay what you want, get lots out of it, control whether devs or charity get more of the money, even using Child's Play.
Is it really any better or worse then that widely loved incentive when we never could guarantee change?

80,000 . It is a monumental achievement . I personally feel robbed by all this politicking going on in the background , but I will not presume any conspiracy theories until more formal investigators take a stab at it .

Instead , what I personally can offer are two things:

1. this matter will be extremely scrutinized by the community and I suspect that whether we as a community intend it or not it will be looked upon negatively by both the community and the population of the world as a whole whether or not elements attempt to 'blame us' or consider us some crazy 'fringe group' or whatever . Headlines (which I'm sure will come , I've already sent an email to several news sources asking them to investigate the matter and I offered NO INTERPRETATION or INSINUATION OF ANY KIND in my emails on as to what happened) , will look upon this with scrutiny and I'll let them do the interpreting .

2. We must we WILL restart the drive . I believe we should reach 100,000

ME3 fans , do you want them to say "We shut down their little drive , so they'll go away . You see ? They didn't want to donate at all , they just wanted their little cause"

Of course we want our cause , BUT THOSE OF US WHO DONATED wanted to help children first .

That's why we poured EIGHTY THOUSAND AND RISING . We need to let people know that we WERE NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF STOPPING either , we were well on our way to 100,000 and beyond .

We cannot allow this act whether shameful or prudent to dampen our charity , our resolve . Show them the real dignity in protesting this move by donating 100,000 to a WHOLE NEW CHARITY that the organizers prudently choose (that hopefully has no 'conflicts of interest' or anything like that)

Let's show them the true voice of the community . I personally pledge to TRIPLE my previous donation just to show them that our charity is NOT going to be shut down by emails .

Holy cow. I was away for 2 hours and HOLY CRAP. 20 pages of text. Im sorry I cant read it all.

But guys, I think we should accept things for what they are. We did well, good job everyone.

I believe that this may cause a bigger boom for us. Having this happen might actually bring more people to our aid. Even though I am NOT for another charity for the Retake Mass Effect movement, I WILL donate if someone organizes one.

Lets not forget our goal. Our goal was to gain publicity through getting a large enough crowd and if that didnt help - raise money. Cuz money AAAAAALWAYS talks.
And guess what? We've gained TONS of publicity. Gained friends and enemies. United by the same principles we are bound to win this one way or another, lets prove to everyone that ME3 deserves a better ending.

Apparently the Child's Play charity, despite being an enormous success, has been shut down due to Penny Arcade receiving letters of complaint from supporters of the current ending and, according to hearsay, IGN and other "reputable" outlets claiming that this meant that Penny Arcade supported the Retake ME3 movement.

Now, I'm trying to stay as neutral as possible in this case, but how someone can demand the end of a charity drive raising money for needy children just because they disagree with the ideals of the group providing the money is beyond me.

This is truly a new low for the Establisment Game Review Industry.

Hm, I've read a lot of reviews and watched a lot of coverage of the backlash about the Mass Effect 3 ending, but nowhere did they make it seem like Child's Play was supporting the movement. However, the money raised for Child's Play did give everyone that wasn't bashing the fans behind the movement (and even one's that were calling us all entitled gamers or worse) something positive to say about us. It also made it much harder for Bioware to bad mouth the movement when it's raising money for charity. In my opinion, EA probably pressured both Child's Play and Penny Arcade (I believe they were the ones that created the charity?) to shut it down.

I had found it worrisome for awhile when their Twitter account went silent, especially when it was thanking other fundraisers after only raising a couple hundred dollars. Then yesterday they retweeted something about Mass Effect and PAX, now today they shut the fundraiser down. I just hope the amount of money we raised is documented somewhere, as the site was apparently taken down.

Many events today (specifically shutting down the chip-in fundraiser and locking the Bioware PR thread) after another failure from Ray Muzyka appealing to the fans shows their new strategy. To me, this just brings the EA monster many people distrust or hate even more into the limelight.

Can someone please explain what happened? I've been hearing that the charity drive got shut down because they were pressured into it. At the same time i've also heard it is because a end goal was reached (I thought there never was one)? Which is it? I'm really confused right now.

So much win!!!! Awesome picture, and no matter what, we did a good thing for kids.  The charity drive was a brilliant channeling of something negative into something positive.  Paragons, indeed.

It's in the OP. The charity didn't want to be associated with the petition, so he asked for there to be a cap. 80k was the cap.
