Apparently the Child's Play charity, despite being an enormous success, has been shut down due to Penny Arcade receiving letters of complaint from supporters of the current ending and, according to hearsay, IGN and other "reputable" outlets claiming that this meant that Penny Arcade supported the Retake ME3 movement.

Now, I'm trying to stay as neutral as possible in this case, but how someone can demand the end of a charity drive raising money for needy children just because they disagree with the ideals of the group providing the money is beyond me.

This is truly a new low for the Establisment Game Review Industry.

While you want to stay neutral, as I myself want to aswell, the fact that you have now Name Dropped IGN in you post does show that you do feel that they have some fault at this. Most people will now read this into how they make up their minds about this. Absents of evidence is not the evidence of absents if you see where im going.

Hey everyone, I get back from a raid and 40+ pages are added, yeesh way to make me work guys! Anyway for those urging us to get into another charity, I mentioned many pages ago why this is a poor idea at this time. Most charities will get wind of this pretty quick, our protest has become a political bomb and they aren't going to want to touch it, when major news networks pick it up, thats when it becomes hard to donate to a charity and say your doing it "Just because" and be believed. Thus it's the current consensus of those you labeled the "Fantastic Four" to hold back for the time being on another charity until we have time to talk. We hope you understand our reasoning here and try to support the decision, while you certainly don't have too...well again the reasoning.

I am also glad to return and see the infighting dying down and were returning to being a unified voice, don't lose that, we need it if were going to win this war. It is a war my friends not a tradational one but it's close enough that I'm calling it one. So for now pitch ideas on how to raise awareness, if there are any really good ones, I fully expect you to PM them to myself, as I check my PM's almost hourly so I'll catch em first and pass em along, promise! Or to TX as he's been quite helpful in that regard. But don't act on anything we need to act with a unified voice.

As an idea, Drow has made us many wonderful posters, as did another user...who in my fatigue name I have forgotten (I am so sorry!), why not pring those up and put them around town? Try to get our side out to the people?

Holding The Line,
~R

Can someone please explain what happened? I've been hearing that the charity drive got shut down because they were pressured into it. At the same time i've also heard it is because a end goal was reached (I thought there never was one)? Which is it? I'm really confused right now.

The person who started up the drive - UniqueName001 - was contacted by Child's Play and asked politely to stop the drive.

Child's Play had received a bunch of "hate mail" (they did nto say from who) and they decided that they did not want to be "perceived" as taking a side in the controversy.

Unique agreed - not wanting to hurt their charity in any way - and set the "goal" to 80K, which was quickly reached.

All in all, it was a big "win" for the ReTake movement. We got a lot of sought after POSITIVE media attention, we donated a LOT of money to help sick kids in hospitals - AND - I feel a whole lot better than I did after seeing "the ending" of the game.

Hold the line!

I wonder if they would have let us keep donating if we renamed it to something simpler like "ME Fans for Child's Play" - .

Or leave mass Effect out of it all together.  maybe,  Gamers for ChildPlay or something along that line.

Why don't you guys switch to a charity that plants trees or something. That's so provocative that it's down right boring, meaning few people will care and even fewer will attack it.

It's in the OP. The charity didn't want to be associated with the petition, so he asked for there to be a cap. 80k was the cap.

Thanks, I should probably have read the OP..

Hm didnt realize we are allowed to donate only to those that they allow us to. Oh wait lol nm.

can't we find another great cause to piggy back on to make some noise? and OP i think you should edit the title / OP to convey the changes in the situation.

Yeah, maybe next time I should see if any news has been added to this thread before posting here. It's a shame that sick kids are not going to be recieving all that they could have because of this. Still, 80k is incredible! I honestly expected maybe 5k at the most! Amazing job everyone! I'm proud of all of you!Posted Image

This is pretty sad. But I agree it's probably not the best thing to attach to another charity at this point.

I made a Kirrahe poster that can be fiddled with pretty easily to include more info. Not sure what info you'd want on it though - hash tags? Facebook group?

If we did piggy back on to something else, it may look bad for us more then help us. Those from the outside that see this could think that we are just using these groups to get PR and it makes the work that we want to to do help look tainted.  No only that, but news travels fast, so once Childs Play said that they wanted us to stop, you could bet that word spread around and that others would take the same stance.

I think we should just keep talking up our point, in a civil tone, and spread it via word of mouth to get others to know whats going on.

I am enthusiastic as HECK for the next charity . Who's organizing and who are we helping ?

I want to note only donate money but get to know who I'm donating to just like last time . For me this has never been about just blankly sending in cash , but REAL intentions while rallying behind a wonderful cause at the same time . Can someone get in contact with the organizers and see what's up ?

This

The fact that we not only raised an unprecedented amount, could have raised a whole lot more, and had the decency to cut this off when it was starting to hurt the charity, could only reflect positively on us.

It also reflects poorly on the pro-enders, who apparently, rather than start up their own donation drive, decided to give CP hell.  It's win/win for us.

A little link or something directing them to an informative web site (Once it's up) and other than that it's perfect!

I do not know if anyone is. Child's Play is willing to offer them (tho I am not asking for my money back.)

I donated because it made me feel great - took all my negative feelings about the ending and turned them into something positive.

It's been offered by CP, but nobody's admitted to it. Probably unlikely to be that many who do.

No one, we are distancing ourselves from further donation drives to show that we know how not to cause trouble.
