@retake ME

If I might make a suggestion or two.  It would also help if you could reach out to the Asian forums, and see if they're interested in joining the cause, if you haven't already.  I think they got their game about a week after us.

Also, as others have stated, get a new charity and start over.  One that can withstand outside influence.

I agree that evaluating our infrastructural developments to get a new drive going is an excellent idea . I believe that energy for this new drive will be large and helpful and if anyone feels disenchanted by the previous occurrence , then channel that into helping MORE people than you did before . Regardless of how the previous one ended , we achieved an amazing thing by helping those kids . Never forget that . Mordin is smiling at our altruism and our dedication . Sure that's cheesy in game terms , but those kids are thankful as well .

Taking a day to collect ourselves is good . Let this take time to disseminate throughout the entire fandom both those who were donating and those who want to know "how did this happen" .

Then once we get the organizers sorted out , we'll start again after the chaos of the initial shock is transformed into RESOLVE TO HOLD THE LINE

Yes... I think people are all discussing what charity, or what "next steps" to take.

I think we need to be careful and measured in what we do next.
So,
keep paying attention to the ReTake pages and continue to stay positive and

Hold the line!

A lot of people have given us a lot of urging to find a new charity and I was recently contacted by someone else in the movement interested, there cell will be starting a donation drive and wanted to get our Cell in on it. This being said it seems a lot of people want to find a new charity, so let us discuss it amongst ourselves for a day, see what we can set up, what system we can do and then pass it by you guys, okay? Just give us a few days, I think this was a staggering blow to all of us and we just need some time. Feel free to pitch ideas though. And please PM me anything you guys seem to agree on it.

Sounds fine, my personal advice would simply be NOT to rush into this. We have time.

I'm in. Any thoughts on what kind of charity we should look for? Kids still? Something Red Cross-like? Something more along the lines of Make A Wish? Thoughts?

(For the record, I haven't researched charities myself recently, but I do have fond memories of Make A Wish since I knew a kid who MaW reached out to. Google "Ephoenix" and "Warcraft" if you're interested.)

If the charity doesn't want the money we will happily take it back and give it to another charity.

Let the press push links, for $80'000 I'd at least expect a show of support, unless someone plans to sue them. Find another charity, a children's hospice or community hospital. Childline in the UK.

With all you graphics talented people , I can propose that someone make a MORDIN MEDAL OF HONOUR for the organizers of this charity ? I feel like a small token of thanks for organizing such a feat would be a fun way to show them our gratitude and our continued hope that we will get more leaders and organizers to get us to 100,000+ in the next charity :D

Why Mordin? Because he is and always will be a model of sacrifice for our movement . Marauder shields represents our collective will to fight . Mordin represents our collective will to help and heal

Osteogenesis imperfecta(ETA: Brittle Bone Disease)? It's an orphan disease, probably doesn't get much in the way of mainstream support.

I'm all up for finding another charity. This was such a great way to rally our support in a positive direction.

Apologies if this has been posted, lot of catching up to do on this thread.

Forbes article on why Child's Play stopped taking Retake donations.

Forbes is on top of this already? Wow. And the reasons are sound, if the end of the drive is a bit disappointing. With how rabid some people get though, it's not completely unexpected.

Ugh. At least most of us have proven we can keep it civil.

For the record, I support finding a new charity to continue the drive with, who is ok with everything. To help people understand, I just saw this, which makes me feel...less bad about stopping it today, but I do think we can help another charity out that is aware of everything and has no issue with it.

I just got on and learned PA shut down our charity drive? From what I read it's something about us using the charity as our shield. But I have to wonder...they've known about this charity drive for weeks, why wait? Why shut down only now?

Anyway...we still accomplished a lot. $80,000 is no small feat and I think even if they did shut us down, the fact remains that we're willing and committed to our cause. If you guys find a new charity to donate to, I'm in.

While the shut down is pretty sad I can sort of see where they're coming from.
It is a shame though, regardless of motives that money could've helped plenty of kids.

Here's where it gets hard folks, now with the charity thing shut down (for now) we are going to be expected to turn into an angry mob. We have to continue to choose the Paragon option, being civil reasonable people will get us results.

This :)

Stay tuned everyone... ideas are being worked on and an "official" direction will be presented to BSN as soon as we either A) agree on a charity that won't say "no thanks" or B) come up with a better, equally awesome idea. :)

Hold the line!

Honestly, now seems like a good time to call it quits and not find a new charity. I'd started noticing people using it to justify some frankly remarkably dumb comments on various sites, in the pattern of "flame, flame... troll. But hey, I gave to charity". We know we did something good, but the goal has been accomplished. Nothing further is gained by finding a new cause that will openly accept us attaching a cause to it, it'd only prove the critics right.

Just my opinion, no need to spreaad it around.

And it's still going to help those kids? Aside from the hopefully small amount of asses who are discracefully asking for their donations back, that is.

I totally understand where they're coming from, and I think they did the right thing for them and the charity.

When I was looking into all of this I was surprised it wasn't an angry mob from the get go. I was impressed by what people were doing and how civil many people were being. Like I said back in the now locked PR discussion thread, BioWare has the ball. The goal now is to make them realize we're going leaving the field just because of that.

Voice your opinions, cite your sources, and be civil.

To me, the greatest win this movement achieved has been all the publicity in various sites, good or ill. It means they're watching the movement, the fans, and, more importantly, BioWare, like hawks. It's applied pressure in the right places and, short of over extention or looking greedy, I don't think there is much more we can do until BioWare passes the ball back.

I would say that IF a new charity is found that it be handled differently. People apparently thought donations were for getting new content, so that needs to be crystal clear. Any phrasing used needs to be clear that the charity is in no way connected to Retake.

The donations to Child's Play in Retake's name ended because of misunderstandings. I believe every reason given by Penny Arcade to be valid, and if another charity drive is organized by Retake all the concerns cited by Penny Arcade and Child's Play need to be addressed so something like this does not happen again.

I would also strongly caution everyone to consider the motives behind organizing a Retake charity drive, and whether that is in the best interests of our cause. Even if our motives are beyond reproach others may not see it that way. Public perception can and likely will affect how Bioware ultimately responds to us, and if we lose the growing positive image we've gained we could lose support. I expect that if we aren't viewed favorably Bioware may be less likely to reach a solution that pleases us.

Oooh, I like that. Quite appropriate. Is there actually anything we could donate to, however? Just did a quick Google and the top two results on the page were The Brittle Bone Society and Strongbones Children's Charitable Trust. I don't know anything about them other than that search, nor do I know how to research a charity, but those two look like possibilities.

There's probably something. And I like the way it fits. We all know Joker really wouldn't run/back down, and that's been one of the core bits of Retake.
