According to the post on Penny Arcade, part of the reason that the drive was taken down was because people were confused and thought that reaching a certain amount guaranteed a new ending. Then, after finding out that it didn't guarantee a new ending, they asked Paypal for their money back.

If you do start another charity drive, please make sure to let them know that donating does not guarantee a new ending.

Agreed.

My only argument against PA and this comment will come to bite me in the arse I swear but, how this is any different than when they donated money under jack Thompson name cause he backed out.

Everyone see this already?

Apparently theyve worked something out for Nathan Fillion's charity, Kids Need to Read.

I like the idea. Maybe when the kids grow up, they'll be able to write better stories than...*cough*

And they got me at Fillion

Because when they did it, they basically did it as two people with unified goals.

Organizing a lot of people on the other hand brings in all types of different goals and motivations and public actions.

Honestly if it weren't for the people asking for money back, and the people who didn't read the actual declaration of what the drive was about,  I doubt this conversation would be happening.

I got this e-mail back from the CFF:
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation gratefully acknowledges your gift of $100.00 on 03/23/2012. We depend greatly on the generosity of people like you, who enable us to wage our battle against cystic fibrosis (CF).
The opportunity to develop new therapies for people with CF has never been greater. And, we optimistically forge ahead knowing we are impacting the lives of those with CF as never before. Our perspective does, however, remain in check as we continue to lose precious young people to this disease. Please know that for each day we work, and for every dollar we raise, we are "adding tomorrows every day" for people with CF.
Your donation is offering hope to the tens of thousands of patients and their families who live with this disease every day. We are most appreciative of your support and promise to invest it in the wisest way possible -- to save lives.

I would suggest that donations to worthy charities around the world inspired or in honor by the Mass Effect series. Perhaps a way to track these could be set up and to inspire others to do the same.

While I agree and if that the reason I fully understand.

But just to humor the thought, let say it was more, while it was just 2 people they were still using charity as a way to make their point known.

As I said not very different .

Really wish a mod was on to lock that "gabe" thread, this is making the whole RT3 look bad do to the few getting sucked into it.

Yep, its getting bad. Reminds me of yesterday with the troll pro-ender trend. Not good at all.

And it's really hard to make both side realize there both being well uncivil jerks.

I know, I tried to be as civilized as I could yesterday, even tried to pull people the heck out of the trend. Finally got a mod in to shut it down.

You can only do so much to try and get other people to understand. If it gets that bad, I'll have to just report people again. I hate doing it, but it has to stop. It only hurts us.

Looks like the tied slowly turning, allot of the "heated" ones are leaving.

Only issue I see is all the name calling, and not just by the trolls, too many retake people going guns blazing, I pmed to get them the heck out.

Thank you. I myself have Cystic Fibrosis and have had a double lung transplant nearly 4 years ago (I was very close to dying and was at the hospital for months) I lost good friends and my brother due to this disease. Donations and awareness are the reason why the lung transplant option was made available for CF patients which would extend their life by a couple more years, even more if they're lucky and take good care of themselves. Most of them don't get to live past 30 and those people who I have lost have passed away just under the age of 25. Thank you. You've made someone with CF happy. <3

Just calm down a bit.
We did good for the children, didn't we?
80,000 is an amazing number for such a short period of time.
Despite the conspiracy or something that might clouds you, let's just stay focused on our next step.
:)

You have to understand that just donating would not work. We have to donate all together into the same charity with a way of tracking how much our movement has donated altogether.

It seems hopeless, A large segment of this movement is entirely out of control.

Honestly, it's probably not even a large segment.  But that's the thing about people that are out of control.  They have a disproportionate impact.

And the only reason the Retake members are going off the rails is because theyre being denied what they have all worked for for so long. First its the endings and now its the charity. Everybody had placed hope in it and set their own goals. Its not easy to accept that something like this is just closed without them having a say in it.

All I see is ill will from Bioware... I guess I have become jaded.   Time to wander away from these forums.

(please don't ban me for this.  I am just tired of all the pr spin.  I will not post again.)

There will always be people like this. Don't be suprized about how a small number of people can cause so much damage and rage.

Part of it might also be that multiple people in the other thread don't seem to be reading others posts before chiming in. Honestly, I think this has been building for a while--people are going to have strong opinions on giving to charity, and with all the tension floating around since the 6th things are going to get heated. Plus, it's BSN. We make a living out of nit-picking and complaining.

We've done a good thing, and I'm content to leave it at that. I just hope no one is soured on Child's Play after this. It really is a good charity that deserves some love.

I understand this.  As a political movement of sorts the Retake Movement must be unified.  I followed the Paragon path of conscience over the Renegade political support:D (though both do good).  Seriously, though, my e-mail to Bioware saying I did this in support of the movement is only my word.  But supporting the movement is an extention of my after work hobby, gaming (which I am very passionate about) but it is still a hobby.  However, real people are dying and suffering as we speak.

Bioware isn't our problem, we are our problem. There are people out there acting like proving the medias awful comments about us true was there full time job. And it's not because they're moles or some other half assed conspiracy theory, it's because they are choosing not to manage their emotions.
Not feeling especially proud to be part of this movement right about now. We can't control anything except how we act, how we come across. I registered here three hours after I finished the game because I was straight up traumatized. I don't do forums, always assumed it would be a bunch of 15 year olds swearing at eachother. Was shocked by the quality of the movement, the unity, the intelligence, the drive. Now it look to me like a bunch of 15 year olds swearing at eachother. I'm getting some sleep.

If we decide to donate to a new charity, it would be awesome to give to KONY 2012!

No I'm joking, actually, I was thinking about Peter Gabriel's WITNESS:

"WITNESS uses video to open the
eyes of the world to human rights violations. WITNESS empowers people to
transform personal stories of abuse into powerful tools for justice,
promoting public engagement and policy change."

It's also the only charity that works in third world countries that I trust, being set up by Peter Gabriel and all.

In any group there will be the uncontrollable ones, and unfortunately they are the loudest and therefore are focused on first. The rest of us simply have to keep true and keep calm, eventually people will realize the rationale portion ^^
