Bioware isn't our problem, we are our problem. There are people out there acting like proving the medias awful comments about us true was there full time job. And it's not because they're moles or some other half assed conspiracy theory, it's because they are choosing not to manage their emotions.
Not feeling especially proud to be part of this movement right about now. We can't control anything except how we act, how we come across. I registered here three hours after I finished the game because I was straight up traumatized. I don't do forums, always assumed it would be a bunch of 15 year olds swearing at eachother. Was shocked by the quality of the movement, the unity, the intelligence, the drive. Now it look to me like a bunch of 15 year olds swearing at eachother. I'm getting some sleep.
People need to sleep on it and come back here with a clear head. But like any movement, it inevitably becomes divided over time. Unity never lasts.

WE DID GOOD.
This is not the time to get mired in a quagmire that will serve no one.
PA has to think about the long term effects that something like this can have
on a charity, from their point of view it is undesirable to have it be
labled "The Angry Gamers Charity"
We may not see eye to eye with them on that, but that is their right. The only way this destroys the
heart of the Retake ME movement is if we let it by needlessly raging about things that don't need raging about.
Every one of these posts out to get PA, or to suggest that EA or Bioware has a sinister hand in all of this completely invalidates 50 posts saying otherwise.
YOU WANT THEM TO STOP PAINTING YOU AS ENTITLED WHINERS? YOU'RE GOING TO DAMN WELL HAVE TO
MAN UP AND DEAL WITH IT.
I see people trying to attack every action that isn't 100% supportive of changing the endings, and defend every action that is way across the line as part of defending changing the endings.
We've got to come together on this and not live this entire movement off of bitter feelings.
So we've closed our charity drive. We've raised 80k for kids. This is good, and was always the stated goal.
PA opted to end it early before it snowballed and got out of control and turned into a nightmare for them. This is also good because it promotes the long term health of the charity.
Do we find these ideal outcomes? No, but frankly we're better than this. And if we aren't. We can be better than this.
You want to hold the line? Do it.
Hold the line in spite of criticism.
Hold the line in spite of PR.
Hold the line in spite of the ending of the Child's Play drive.
HOLD THE LINE
ONE MORE SECOND,
ONE MORE MINUTE,
ONE MORE HOUR,
ONE MORE WEEK,
ONE MORE MONTH
FOR EVERY GAMER AND GAMING OUTLET THAT TOLD US WE WOULD BREAK!

And we will!
I'm kinda sad we got "forced down" like that, but if we keep holding the line with reason, not rage, we can still make a difference to the "angry gamer", some people want us to be...

If we decide to donate to a new charity, it would be awesome to give to KONY 2012!
No I'm joking, actually, I was thinking about Peter Gabriel's WITNESS:
"WITNESS uses video to open the
eyes of the world to human rights violations. WITNESS empowers people to
transform personal stories of abuse into powerful tools for justice,
promoting public engagement and policy change."
It's also the only charity that works in third world countries that I trust, being set up by Peter Gabriel and all.
Donate what you can afford man, I agree it does seem like a worthy cause.

With all you graphics talented people , I can propose that someone make a MORDIN MEDAL OF HONOUR for the organizers of this charity ? I feel like a small token of thanks for organizing such a feat would be a fun way to show them our gratitude and our continued hope that we will get more leaders and organizers to get us to 100,000+ in the next charity
Why Mordin? Because he is and always will be a model of sacrifice for our movement . Marauder shields represents our collective will to fight . Mordin represents our collective will to help and heal
I support this.
I recommend one for :
UniqueName001, Rosery99, SoHARDCORE, txmn1016, MackenzieShepard, OneRabidAnt, SgtGlory, Eirileth, OniRogue and DrowVampyre.
And - everyone else who donated!!!
Hold the line!
So, it turns out medals are much harder to do than I predicted... unfortunately right now I need to sleep, but I'm working on one. If someone else wants to gve this a go feel free though, not sure I can pull it off anything worthwhile anyway, hehe.

I mean this one My Discussion With "Gabe" (Penny Arcade) regarding charity shut-down
Too much hate and trolling.
Woo said the following
---------------------------------
Those who are raging about Child's Play's decision and/or Tycho and Gabe's response and/or are asking for their money to be refunded and/or thought this was some kind of fundraising campaign to pay for BioWare to change Mass Effect 3's ending need to take a step back, take a few deep breaths, and read things more closely with an open mind. Because if you are doing anything I mentioned above, if you want to "blame" the organization or Penny Arcade for "stealing" your money or for not doing what you want with the money you willingly donated to help sick kids in hospitals, then consider that you might, in fact, be using Child's Play as your tool and not donating in good faith.
And if you weren't donating in good faith, you are doing the Retake Mass Effect and yourself (not to mention the sick kids in the hospitals who benefit from the donations) a great disservice. Before I left work today, I was proud of our community for doing what can only be described as "a good thing." After reading the last few pages of this thread and the OP, I may be reserving my judgement hereafter. Some of you have left me down, man, and I don't like to be wrong about people.
That said, there is way too much raging, misinformation, willfull ignorance, name-calling, and bashing going on in here so it's going away.
End of line.
-----------------------------
People have got to stop acting like this.
Sorry Stanley, hate to wake you.

It was prob my reporting that did it. Had to, it was way too out of hand. We need open and non raging discussions, not this.

I'm disgusted that a charity can be shut down simply because the people contributing have a different opinion than those who run it. I guess you need a really good reason to donate money now.
Maybe we should be given questionnaires before we donate to anything know. "Why are you donating?... Oh I'm sorry, that reason isn't good enough. We need to be sure you are donating for the right reasons, the children can wait."
Without assuming any reason why this was shutdown, Penny Arcade has clearly shown great bias on the matter since the beginning. They have alienated and attempted a divide between a large chunk of Mass Effect fans. I'm shocked and disgusted that they can sit there and rationalize preventing people from donate through their cause.
I hope someone sets up a new drive through a different charity. The fact that someone would use internet politics to prevent an act of good like this just baffles me.
We did good. While Mass Effect fans were donating to charities we were bashed endlessly by misinformed pseudo-journalists. Not an ounce of good came from what those people did.
I seriously believe they are blowing the number of people who asked for refunds out of proportion. They can pick any small arbitrary number and then vaguely say "Oh, people asked for refunds!". They are just trying to justify being contrarion jerks.

Right. My bad, apparently I can't read the time-zone conversion map correctly. Still, I wouldn't want to be up at 1:30 dealing with it.

I agree with you on that, I just can't take their word for it when they say Paypal said a substantial amount of people asked for refunds. I'm gonna need proof on that one, which I'll never get because it's confidential information.

I just hope they didn't decide to close the page because of some personal reasons...because that would be not just hurtful but plain selfish since this charity is bigger than the issues we have and I don't think no ego should eclipse that.
Either way the charity is still there, you just need to use a different link , that's all.
I think we accomplished something great here guys ( not talking about the endings ) and I am quite proud of it.

Your facts are largely mistaken. And also I think the movement needs to be dissuaded from the notion that Penny Arcade while disagreeing with us on the ending, is somehow actively campaigning against us like IGN. (aside from Tycho's assertion that Authorial Divinity is bull**** and other related remarks that show while he doesn't agree, he is sympathetic)
It appears that PA was starting to get an influx of mail questioning how they were tied directly too the movement, and also started seeing some chargeback on some of the donations already made.
Perhaps the number of people asking for refunds is being exaggerated.
But calling the motives of PA into question is not a path forward, it's a path straight down into the ground with no hope of progress on anything whatsoever.
