We started this on March 12, 2012 at 10:54 PM. For 10 days, 3 hours, 18 minutes, until March 23, 2012 2:12 AM (212? Coincidence? I think not!) we held the line. 4,116 of us donated, many more spread the news and gave encouragement. The average donation per person was $19.43 In the end $80,000 was raised for Child's Play, which is 2.28% of the total funds they recieved in 2011. What does this all mean?

I'm Proud of You

I know other people have said it but I would like to say it again.

Take a Breath and CHILL.

A bump in the road was bound to happen. It always does in movements. Look at Occupy Wall Street. They had the cops beating people and spraying mace.  Now we can always find another great charity to give to. Hopefully one not run by PA, since they seem to bash us and what we are fghting for.

Remember, there are alot of happy kids now because of our great community!

Thats the most important thing!

As for the poeple that wanted to get their money back from a charity, "expletive deleted" them.

We should refocus, find a new charity, AND HOLD THE LINE!

and just like occupy wall street you guys arent clear on what you want and secondly you guys are far from a movment

i mean come on there was a guy on here a few days ago comparing your group to the civil rights and womens movment

dont you think thats a little overboard?

alot of you blindly doanted to something in wich you though bioware would make something for you am i right or am i wrong?

First, there are a great many clear, well-structured and well-phrased
explanations of what we want as well as a myriad of polls. Feel free to
browse around for the links and go read them.

Second, I didn't see the person you are referring to with the civil rights and women's rights comparison, so without context I can't say anything about it. If it was a cause comparison rather than a logistical, organisational etc. comparison, then it was probably over the top. Comparisons to those causes regarding how they got started or how fast they grew etc. is nothing to write home about though.

Third, I donated to a charity that does good things for children in hospitals. I chose to do something that makes a difference with my time here, and I feel it was a wonderful thing to organize when you have the chance to have such a large group of people together in one place. I donated so that no matter what Bioware does or does not do, something good will have come from all this.

Bottom line, you're wrong. (possibly with the exception of the women's/civil rights comparison, I haven't seen it)

Hold the line!

As I said on another thread. True, ppl demanding a return from a donation are GARBAGE.

But don't you find funny Child's Play reason to stop accepting donations?

It's been roughly 3 weeks since this started, and so far the fans have destined more than 70.000 dollars to charity. Now, after all that money is and after all this time, Child's Play say that they can't accept money from RetakeME3 because they are being to closely associated with the movement; its a thing recognized by fundraiser's policy. Couldn't they notice this or say it when all this started? Why they took 3 weeks to inform RetakeME3 movement on this problem and didn't stopped accepting money before? I'm not being sarcastic as I also said on the other thread, I just want to know why.

They hadn't run into this issue before.  So it takes time to sort out before you make a policy.  And tbh looking through their stuff it's not the most coherent organized charity I've seen.

yeah well. This is gonna enrage a lot of people, and I want EVERYONE to know that this is a PERSONAL STATEMENT, not an argument or the kind of thing I could say from everyone in this matter, and that I think they would agree. So before saying, I WANT TO MAKE CLEAR THAT IT'S JUST MY OPINION

DemGeth, ok, I can understand that. However taking time to think about the repercussions and if they were starting to bee to clossely asociated with the movement DIDN'T STOPPED THEM FROM ACCEPTING THAT HUGE AMOUNT OF MONEY. They could have said "Hmm ok, wait we'll consult if this is correct and doesen't entesr in conflict with the actuial fundraiser's policy. In the meantime we will put all the money you want to destiny on a separate acount. If your cause doesen't enter in conflict with any rule or policy we have we'll accept your money. If it does enter in conflict then we will refund anyone who wanted to gave some money, we will be sorry but thank you anyway".

I admit I'm not really an expert on how this charity associations work so If I said any atrocity I will be delighted if anyone can explain me why it has been the way it has been for the three pasts weeks and not a more organized and coherent way.

There's a statement from CP in this article. I think it paraphrases/explains the bottom line of the situation best:

Hold the line!

Edit: grr link's not working... hang on while I try again

I've allready read it (the link works for me anyway, thank you) yet still doesen't help me understand why they took so long to tell this to the RetakeME3 movement  and while doing that stil blindly accept all the money. Maybe I'm missing something and I really like someone to point me out at what it is exactly, I mean it.

Probably because when the idea was proposed, the endings backlash hadn't hit full swing and the larger media outlets hadn't even touched it.  It wasn't an issue that CP was intimately aware of.  Then the sh*t really went down, and unforunately, CP took some of the hits.  It was a slow realization for them, so try not to be too harsh.

Basically, Child's Play decided that they can't see their name associated with any side of any cause. That's alright, I suppose, just a little late to notice.

However, I donated and I don't regret a single cent. I am only sad this month my pay came really short and couldn't afford to give more.

^This probably. I mean, they clearly had no issue with us raising money for them in and of itself, but probably it all just started snowballing with confused people and media drawing weird conclusions... and they eventually felt they had to make a call.

Regardless, what we did was awesome and I'm happy that no matter what happens with ME3, those kids can have some joy/fun because of us. :)

In the spirit of good will and keeping things civil I will not argue against that reasoning (even though I still find it very ambiguous and with a big double-morale issue). But If I had any voice on RetakeMassEffect3 movement I would oppose to the idea of ANY OTHER DONATION TO ANY ORGANIZATION for two main reasons: not being abandoned by the organization itself sometime later after the start, and most importantly preventing more bad advertissing on the movement thanks to the people that now want their money back.

I didn't explain it well then.  I totally get the double-morale issue, but let me just say one final thing that I said a few times (probably 50 pages back now).  Charities/NFPs can function on the condition that they receive good PR.  They would not exist if the general public didn't like them enough to give them their money.  At some point, CP realized that the connection to Retake could eventually have a negative effect on their generated income.  As much as it broke my heart, they did the right thing to keep their wonderful group going strong.  Saving face is the name of the game at this point, so again, try not to judge them too harshly.  Alright.  I'm done with that.  They've just gotten flamed relentlessly in the past 10 hrs so I feel the need to step up and look out for them.

On another note, we can at least agree on the no more charities thing.  I'm really touched by peoples generosity here, but I think another charity (especially one so soon) would do more harm than good.

What a difference a nap makes.
After reading the statements and twitter comments on the reasons, I was no longer mad regarding the take down of the drive but still heartbroken.
Still mad though about what repeatedly passes as ok if you are on one side of the fence.
Couldn't even get though the replies to the twitter thread...
To be honest I don't even know what to say anymore, theres a few things on the tip of my tounge but it either can't or won't come out.
The feels. I hate these feels.

Man... I don't want this to be over yet. I cant accept that it's done just because one person from BioWare said they are working on a "More clear ending". I refuse to give up until we, or at least I, have proof that they are fixing the ending properly. But it seems that everyone else is running out of steam, and its saddening... Charity closed or not, I say we still do what we can.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but i'll think of something. It has been an honor, all of you.
