This is a reminder to notify a Moderator directly if you see trouble on the forums.

This is also a reminder that we have a very specific definition of "troll" in our forums, and it doesn't mean someone who "disagrees with me" or "argues with me" or "says something I don't like." The term is reserved for those who intentionally make outlandish hyperbolic posts, usually on a controversial or sensitive topic, for the sole purpose of provoking an extreme reaction.

Stanley,

I am very happy you posted this reminder.  I replied to Mr. Epler a few minutes ago to something of this tune

mmdestiny wrote...

John Epler wrote...

For
what it's worth, we understand that the hostility and vitriol are from
an (extremely) vocal minority. As with any such situation, there are
those who take it too far, but it isn't reflective of the group as a
whole.

We know this to be true.  The painful thing is
that it needed saying in the first place.  Those of us that have been
partaking in genuine discussion see the immaturity and, having no
authority to do something about it, simply try to distance our goals
from it.   The greatest uncertainty is whether or not the violent
minority are actually being serious, or simply think it's funny
(trolls).  In that case, although we feel we need to distance our cause
from them, the final judgement does come on Bioware about where people's
allegiances and goals lie.

I feel it's for this reason that good threads get closed down.

I also feel part of the problem stems partly from the quoting system in place to be honest.  As I said a few moments ago:

Everyone, I would like to remind you all while you are having your
discussions to be careful of quote tags. As far as negative/volatile
posts go, I avoid using quote tags because I feel quote tags are a large
issue with why negative things get propagated through threads. Even
when voicing a denouncing opinion about something negative, the quote
tag just spreads the message one post further.

Civility, and Line Holding, etc.

I'm hoping that when your team considers the forums, they do take into consideration that those at the core of the ReTake movement have done everything they can to show good, constructive intention (as evidenced by the title of this thread) and have tried to distance themselves from the vitriol.

Okay so far

1. Deviant Art contest based around the theme of the Retake movement and new endings, need ways to set this up and get the word out, but art speaks loudly, lord knows the art community is MASSIVE. Get some of that on our side and haha wow!

2. A poster contest is also awesome and then the winning poster could be printed out by devoted members and set pinned up around town. (Minus my town, were hip deep in snow, paper kinda gets soggy and torn apart, do`h.)

3.?

Cmon guys, you're gonna make me do all the work again aren't you =P

After what I had to do to control the raging last night if I come off rude I'm sorry. Plus I didn't sleep much.

Took forever to get a 33 Page flame war closed.

Its not that I mean to be forceful but this is just ruining our image so badly. All we are getting is more and more people opening flame trends. Telling them to relax just isn't working right now.

As long as you are brainstorming... may as well add "A second charity drive" on there :) part of brainstorming is to include all suggestions and I think a lot of people are already off and running on that one.

As to a #4, I had an idea yesterday to have people wear red (or blue... or green heh) T-shirts to PAX or - at the time of PAX, show up at the local video game vendor in said T shirt.

Hold the line!

I understand, it's why I left an hour early last night, I was emotionally exhausted, Im sure you are too. I'm here now and I'll hold the line with the others, go get some sleep alright? Take a nap or just sit and watch something funny with a good drink and some food. We don't need voices of reason and calm being burnt out and getting frustrated, it hurts us,the movement and you. Go on, get some sleep or rest, you're spot in the line will be here when you get back, promise we won't let it die in a few hours.=]

I'm really trying, I'm not especially creative, more analytical. I love the idea of having somethin for us to focus on moving forward, it helps to not dwell on things we can't change and keep it positive. I'll keep grinding my gears.

I think that resting on this success is a good idea . I would have kept pushing if the organizers were behind it , but without the internal infrastructure it's risky and would put into jeopardy a lot of complicated issues . I suggest we call this a success and begin OVERRIDING the negativity with some positive things .

which is why I renew the call to award these organizers with MORDIN MEDALS OF HONOUR if those people who are graphic savvy are able to do it . Let's do some celebrations , let's divert attention to the great success this was and add it as an ACHIEVEMENT . Gosh I SO wish someone graphic savvy would make an "Achievements" Page for the Retake movement to make medals or little things for each mission or milestone such as (just suggestions off the top of my head):

FIGHTER FOR THE LOST for finishing the 80,000 raised fundraising
HARD TARGET when Kain struck Moriarty from orbit
FACT FINDER when a major news outlet (was it bbc? or cnn ?) caught the story
WORLD SHAKER for when the co-founder gave his letter
COMBINED ARMS for when the Facebook page reached 50,000 likes

and upcoming achievements (these are just suggestions and some are just ideas of initiatives which may or may not happen and obviously one could add anything for when new initiatives come up):

COMBINED ARMS: when we reach 75,000 on facebook
MAIL SHOT: when we reach x amount of letters or emails sent in
LONG SERVICE MEDAL: keep the movement alive all the way up to PAX
AGAINST ALL ODDS: get some kind of good promise of a DLC at PAX
LEGEND: Get the DLC

just some musings and fantasies . People respond positively in times of crisis to uplifting things that also focus us . That's why these icons which could be made into a linear banner style to display achievements in a signature would be pretty cool and each time we accomplishs omething we add another medal to the signature . Not everyone might do it but it is another way we can focus on the positive ACHIEVEMENTS despite the HARDSHIPS .

Because remind yourself , people , that we have ACCOMPLISHED so much . It's as if you just finished disabling the dreadnaught and you're focusing too much on having had to spend 3 medi-gel than the fact that you made a big difference . And yes , 80,000 for kids is a big difference . The co-founder talking to us is a big difference . reaching 50,000 on facebook is a big difference . Let's keep doing it .

I gave up at midnight or I was going to start swearing myself. You can only say keep it civil and remind people that their bad behavior reflects on all us so many times.

I think that future charity endeavors are going to be discussed later...after the waters calm down a bit.

However, I love that t-shirt for PAX idea.  I know some people had done some designs.  Anyone remember where to find them/ who did them (I'm so bad :pinched:).

I do have a suggestion that sort of adds on to the Art Contest. For those of us who are not artistically inclined (I have been known to mess up stick figures), why not allow a short story of some kind that revolves around the Retake Moment or their Shepard or whatever strikes the writer's fancy. Setting up a Retake on DA would be pretty simple and you could probably get the word out on the Retake Facebook page as well as the website (there was one, right? I could have sworn I saw it a few days ago)

Anyway, that's my two cents. I haven't really actively been posting here all that often, but I have been lurking for a while now. I have to say that I've been really impressed with the way things have gone so far. Kudos to all of you!

As far as the "wearing T-shirts to PAX" idea goes this is all I have to say...

QUICK! Someone whip us up a shirt with Marauder Shields on both sides, with bold lettering that reads "Never Forget!"

@Leo

Hey don't worry about it, we are all in this together, everyone of us is a unified voice. If one voice gets tired, you gotta take a breather and the rest of us have to yell just a little bit louder. (Or in you're case a lot louder =P) to make up for it.
