Then you donate to the charity in the petitions name. You don't give your money to some 3rd party. You know how many charity scams there are.

All of the money goes directly through to Child's Play, no middle man. This is 100% confirmed. If you donate you will notice your reciept says is billed via Child's Play.

I have no resolution yet on making it more clear prior to confirming payment that it is, in fact, going straight through to Child's Play. But thank you to everyone who took that chance and have now confirmed it :)

Well OK that's cool then but when I clicked on the PayPal thing it just says your giving money for online petition.  If the reciet says Child's Play then it's all good.

Though any website in any kind of chartiy drive needs to have some accounting info on it.

I could use a signature image with some unused areas so I can create a dynamic donation counter on it. Suggestions anyone?

Normally, I would completely agree with you.

However, in this case, there is no accounting, because there is no part of the donations that are not going straight to Child's Play.  There is no overhead; I don't know if Paypal or ChipIn take a cut but if you look at the official Child's Play fundraising guide this is the method they endorse for running an online charity donation drive.

I searched the email address in the receipt, and the person is associated with Childs Play

Fantastic! as long as Bioware actually listens and starts making that DLC that we want.

Just wanted to say a quick thank you and congrats to everyone who has donated so far. Whether or not this was driving by our desires for a video game ending, the fact that people are donating is very commendable.

In less then 24 hours since its creation, it is currently at $5264.50 which is a HUGE amount for donations, trust me. So once again, thank you and congrats to everyone who donated and put this all together.

Hold The Line!

To be fair, it's fantastic either way! We have already raised over $5,000 to help sick children and that number is still growing. However this turns out for us it only turns out one way for the kids.

GREAT!

No doubt, I do a fair amount of charity work and any site that doesn't make the chain of money clear sends up red flags.

But like you said if the reciept says the charities name on it, than of course legit no doubt.

This is amazing and I'm proud to be part of this community who channels something negative that made them unhappy into such a positive outlet.

Donated again, so impressed with the response this has generated so far. Less than a day and its already over $5,000.
For those who are leery about the setup, this is verbatim from ChildPlay's Fundraising PDF:

"If you’re running purely as an Internet based fundraiser, it is absolutely imperative that you link directly to the Child’s Play PayPal account though ChipIn. ChipIn allows you to collect metrics on how much your fundraiser collected without having to “touch” the money. By "touching" the money, you are technically accepting money privately and then deciding to contribute the funds to Child's Play."

For those skeptical, the money does go directly into Child's Play paypal account, not held by any third party. Receipts prove it. Keep spreadin the word.
