It's amazing how so-called "professional" reviewers think airing their grievances with other journalists in public like this is even remotely okay, even aside from slamming the buying public in their opinion pieces.

And they wonder why anyone would get upset with them. Makes you wonder if they intentionally act that way so they can squeeze heated comments from people and never have to admit a stereotype they fling around as a catch all might be a mistake.

Just wanted to toss something out about reading articles that are one sided in opposition of the ending situation.

I know a lot of people don't like, or get upset, over reading articles that talk about how the fan outcry is wrong and the endings don't need to be changed, how the fans are whiny and entitled, and how this will suddenly dictate every single fan from here on out suddenly rising up and complaining to any developer about the endings to a game.

I suggest reading these articles. If anything, those sort of anti-support articles are the most important for any movement, not just what's going down right now. The reason is that it is through these negative perspectives that we can correct any mistakes or attitudes that might be causing these very perspectives.

They may not be right, but something happened that made them think they are; use that to learn how to change that opinion. They may very well be right in some respects and you use that to learn from your mistakes. Maybe a few fans got to heated and labeled the whole group in the same light. Those very fans can read that article and say 'Note to self, don't blow up like that again.'

There will be people that don't care what you do and think they're right no matter what; you can't change that and you never will. Don't fret over those people. All you can do is take the negative, swing it into a positive (learning from mistakes or learning how to better explain your position so people aren't confused), and the people that aren't ignorant to your plight will have a better understanding of your situation.

There have been plenty of articles that mention the movement, saying how it is wrong, that the fans are feeling entitled, and that it is infringing on the creativity of a developer. All of these articles I've seen fail to mention even a single reason why people are feeling this way and just chalk it up to 'hating the ending.' None of them mention the quotes or statements they made, the conflict the ending causes when laid side by side to the entire narrative of the very series itself, or even show that the 'choices' you get are no better than a different colored mirror of each other.

They do this for a variety of reasons and some of them just don't plain want to voice our side of it, while others really don't know our side of it. All some of them have to go on are angry comments in their articles, on review sites, or on forums that do nothing but reinforce their point.

So read these negative articles. Learn the perspectives of the people that disagree. Use that information to better prepare yourself when you need to explain your position, to calmly point out the lack of information someone might have in regards to our side if it, and as a reminder not to get too heated.

I agree.  I always read any articles mentioning the Retake movement or the charity. Even if they have only terrible things to say..*cough*Jim Sterling*cough*.  I like at least knowing what perspectives are out there.

Dude:

"As the main point of contact for Child’s Play, Jamie has been buried under mail about this situation. Apparently some of the people giving to the cause seemed to think that they were paying for a new ending to Mass Effect. She’s been asked what the goal is, and how much they need to raise in order to get the ending produced. We’ve also been contacted by PayPal due to a high number of people asking for their donations back."

If that's true, then they were backed into a corner. And PA is well known for being open and honest about whats going on over there.

It's not a f***ing war - just because someone isn't your ally doesn't make them an enemy,

Im sorry, but no matter what, I feel offended by them not wanting donations from us any longer.
And about some of the statements they allegedly made.
As far as people wanting money back, how much of that came, after they announced they didn't want it in the first place.

I do not want to argue here, they are not my enemy, I just think their decision sent a wrong message and I'm staying by that.

I don't think we have a fair chance to change their opinion.
Most of their sites gave glowing reviews to the game and stated that the ending is the next best thing to the second coming of christ.

I think they treat us this way and think of us as enemies, because anything else seems to them to be admitting a mistake.

Not that it matters much now that I have no desire to play the game. But at least they're fixing it. In my opinion, one of the most EPIC f*ck ups they could have made.

Never bothered me that much, didn't take too long to fix the faces and I liked my Male Shep much better after the makeover:P

It's nice to know, if they ever fix the ending for me, then I can play it and my Shepard will look right.

Hold the line.

I had a hilarious hour long shepard-fixing session with a buddy of mine poring over screenshots to try and re-create our respective shepard's faces. In the end we got them about 80-90% right and explained away the discrepancies as "plastic surgery" :wizard:

I refused to f*ck up my original shep's face (even though she was admittedly a bit on the fugly side).  I just used a more recent fshep that I altered in ME2 that I wasn't as vested in.  In hindsight, a good decision.  Not sure I could have endured those endings with my original Shepard. The pain would have been too great. :crying:

I wished I would have done something similar.
At first I planned on using one of my male shep and save my main Shep for a perfect paragon playthrough, but he romanced Tali and she shows up so late, that I lost the drive and instead continued with my mainshep.
I really wish I could undo going through this ending with her.
She's such an important character to me, I fleshed her out in fanfics, with family history and all.
i think if I had reached the ending with the male shep first, it wouldn't have hit me quite that hard.

Yeah, I originally wanted to play my original shep first, in all the glory of her mistakes (character deaths, killed the council accidentally :pinched:, etc.).  But when I realized I couldn't use her face I had to just opt for one of my other, less emotionally important playthroughs.

At work but ill check in from time to time. Feel terrible though, pollen levels through the roof.

I feel bad for those of you that have custom Shepards yet couldn't get the face to work.

The face import problem never really bothered me, after an hour into the game, I tend to forget what Shep looked like in the previous games.. Miranda already enhanced all my Shep's faces from ME1 anyway..

They're in it for the drama: the more drama, the more outraged fans link to their articles, the more clicks, the more $ for them.

I am glad they're going to fix it. When the endings are fixed, I plan to start all over again from ME1 and I would like to keep his face the same in all three games.
It didn't really bother me in my first ME3 playthrough though, cause I happened to create the best face I made to date imo.

Hey! I just found this little gem floating around on another thread.  It seems like the kind of thing people around here would be interested in.  ME endings in the context of prominent narrative themes throughout the series.  A very enjoyable read! :D

Well everyone in the Mass Effect universe seemed to have gotten breast implants at some point between ME2 and ME3 so it's fair to blame plastic surgery....

Lol so even a week before release they were out there lying about what we were going to get...? That's just bad form.

I would still like to believe that they got something ready to go when pax comes around because of all the hints they kept giving.

I'm just hopeful like that. Call me crazy.

I am not as hopeful after reading what got cut out of the game.   Part of me thinks that the "clarification" will mostly involve just sticking those scenes back in.
