Child's Play was started by Penny Arcade, but I believe it's basically it's own entity now. Either way, I can't imagine them refusing any donations :)

Regardless of whether Tycho, Gabe, or Mr. Kuchera agree with us (and the only one of them I have seen explicit evidence of that is Kuchera), they have that right, just as much as we have the right to wish for more.

I'm actually glad that there are people who are satisfied with the endings as they stand. But I believe they are in the minority :)

If everyone who voted for the endings to be changed donated just $1, that'd be over $35,000 - if $2, it's $70,000

This could be huge...

I was talking to my sister about what we were doing and she wanted me to pass along this message:

Hi this is makenzieshepard's sister. I want to say thank you to everyone helping through whether it blogging or donating money. My grandson was in the hospital with a brain tumor and has fully recoverd. He was lucky enough to be at Stanford where they offer kids lots of things to do. Not all kids are so lucky or blessed and to top it off are miles from home. Keep this going and don't stop. Thank you

Thank you for passing this on :)

Oh they are UN, that has been proven by massive cuts into BW/EA's profit margins. They are the minority and we are the majority. We have done something here though that will not only reveberate through the ripples of time, helping those kids and THEY will know who helped them but maybe in the future no matter how this turns out, gamers will be held in a little higher regard than we are these days.

I would be flabbergasted if we hit 10k by the end of the day.

If we get there by the end of the day...I don't know what I will do but I will figure something out.

Its funny, when I emailed this story to Rock, Paper, Shotgun, I said that we had almost reached $2,000 in donations. That was only a few hours ago.

The donation site is here:

http://retakemasseff...ect-childs-play

Please see post three of this thread for some information regarding the transaction.

-----

This thread is to discuss a donation drive to the Child's Play charity in order to bring positive attention to our respectful requests for an alternate ending to the Mass Effect series.

Child's Play is a charity which provides game hardware and software to Children's Hospitals around the world.  It was created by gamers and for gamers.

Our plan is to coordinate donations via the ChipIn service which will act as a neutral party to ensure all donations make it directly to the Child's Play charity.  ChipIn is the service officially recognized by Child's Play for coordination of online donation drives.  It also ensures that the donations are in the name of the cause and not any other party.  Donations are made via Paypal.

Regardless of the outcome of this petition, any donations made to Child's Play go to a worthy charity.

Please post feedback on the proposed petition.  I'd like to hear from as many supporters as possible before claiming that the petition represents the voice of the community.  I would also be happy to hear constructive criticism of the overall idea.

Thank you.

Information about the charity and the donation processor:

Child's Play Charity
ChipIn

Since it seems I'll be saving money on DLC anyway, I'll chip in 10 bucks.

We should email them with something like "While you criticize us, we donate to your charity".

No. This is not about spiting them for there opinions, this not about spiting bioware or anyone for that matter. This is to help a worthy charity and by that effect rebuke what the media has painted us as, we will NOT give them any ammunition to turn us into whiney ignorable fan-boys.

Yes, please everyone keep this civil.  This is not a drive with any intention to mock or shame anyone - be it Penny Arcade or Bioware or anyone else.

It's a way to do some good, channel our disappointment, and bring attention to the issues we have with the current ending.

Besides, I have not yet seen anything from Tycho or Gabe one way or another regarding their feelings about those who want a different ending.  The only Penny Arcade related person I have seen who disagrees with us is Ben Kuchera at the Penny Arcade Report.  I don't think we can assume that his opinion matches exactly with others at the site.

It would certainly be amazing! And it is actually quite possible. It's still early, just wait until people get off work and see this!

This is pretty amazing. I'll donate later today, and see if I can rope some friends from work into it. Glad to see some good has come out of these endings.

My perspective is that nothing bad can come from this fundraiser. Nothing. I don't care if we get made fun of, if Bioware never acknowledges what we're doing here, or if we never get a single DLC to fix the ending. That is all irrelevant. We're helping kids have some fun while they're in the hospital. Nothing else matters!

QFT, and thank you.

I assume people have repeatedly sent this to BioWare via Twitter?
Can they really NOT re-tweet something for as good a cause as this?

I told Mike Gamble that he should donate lol. We've actually had Jennifer Hale and a few others retweet about it. I have thanked her properly and congratulated her on what a great job she did with FemShep

Awesome.  And truth.  Hale was brilliant all through the game.  Ending, hated it as I did, tore me to shreds becuase of her voice work.

Heh, I would hope they would, but I understand if they don't.  The petition part of the fundraiser is asking them to change their product, and by endorsing the fundraiser they would be by proxy endorsing our message.  I doubt they are ready for that.

Would be pretty sweet though.

Yup. The Voice acter for Kaiden and one other person retweeted it. Someone help me, I'm forgetting the names.

The donation page is now live at this address:

http://retakemasseff...ect-childs-play

PLEASE NOTE that currently the "item being purchased" notification on Paypal will show my email address, and not that of Child's Play (donate@childsplaycharity.org).  This appears to be how ChipIn works.  ChipIn does not provide direct customer support and I am unsure how to solve this.

I did send in my donation, and the final receipt on my Paypal account (took a few minutes to process) does correctly indicate the recipient ("Payment Sent To:") as the Child's Play charity.  The email receipt from Paypal indicates the correct destination as well.  I'm afraid this might be the only way for this to work, but I don't like the impression that I am working a scam here.

If you are uncomfortable at all with making this transaction I COMPLETELY understand. I am working on resolving the problem. But I thought I'd at least get the page information out there.

Thank you all again for your support.

Have you contaced Child's Play to see if they are recieving dontations through this?

I just tweeted it to @BioWare.  Looking forward to seeing what they do.  I'm not expecting it either, but it would be kind of funny.
