Okay all, I'm off to bed (and by "off to bed" I mean I will lay there, staring at my phone, mashing the refresh button for 30 more minutes) for the night. I remember one xmas opening up my atari(I'm old lol).  Played for hours.  I'm the girl I know around me who plays games.  So games have been my escape for more years then I want to mention lol.

I'll see your Atari and raise you Zork.  I still play video games because they remind me of what it was like to be a kid, running around with a buddy, and a stick that I pretended was a sword, really believing that I could slay dragons (the dragons, in my imagination, did not look like ducks, but the chalices glowed).

I'm actually glad BW botched the endings - I'd never heard of this charity.  I'm grateful to have been a part of that truly astounding number on the chipin page.

You know what? My first video game? COMMODORE 64!!! BAM!!!

Hi there. I bought Mass Effect 3, but something weird happened with my name--it won't let me sync my accounts, so I can't post...so I need you to relay a message for me.

My girlfriend and I are pretty hardcore Mass Effect fans. I've been lurking here since last night, when this was in its infancy. We just donated $10, because right now, it's all we can afford. We've cried because of this donation, and I'm so happy to be a part of this community.

The first thing that completely upset me about this whole thing was the treatment of ME2 love interests. I'm a Thanemancer, and felt like I didn't get the satisfaction I needed. I'm not saying he should have lived, but an option to secure him as the love of Talena Shepard's life would have been pro.

Then, the ending...I'm really upset. I feel like none of the options offered reflected the choices Talena had made through the series. I'm given the same three options everyone else is. Depressing.

That being said, Aimee and I have watched this charity grow, and it's not even about the ending anymore (well, it is a li'l). I still want my ending. But right now, even if I don't get my Happily Ever After with Thane, I know that I stood for something good and wonderful in the Mass Effect community. It's what Talena Shepard would have done. It's what any Shepard would have done.

I'm proud to be a Shepard sibling.

Donated. This was a really good idea for whoever came up with it. When you're depressed, like I was and many others after ME3's terrible ending, its a smart choice to do some good with it. Helping others, reminding people to be charitable, and getting our voices heard is brilliant. Hold the the Line, Help the Kids! (but not ghostly evil space kids)

I’ve seen a lot of people posting Shepard saluting, or saying “this is what Shepard would’ve done” and frankly, I think you’re probably right. The last interaction we had with our character(s) was, for the most part, out of our control. Whatever choice we made, people were going to suffer, there was no Paragon option to persuade, no Renegade option to headbutt, there were just three crap-sandwich choices. The theme was clear: your choices don’t matter. Furthermore, it’s not even clear what ends up happening as a result.

The idea of donating money to Child’s Play is the perfect answer to that, it’s our catharsis. We wanted to know that our choices mattered, that what we did had a repercussion, that somehow, the universe was a better (unless your Shepard was just a dick) place for our character having lived. By donating to Child’s Play, by taking an active role and donating, we are showing that our actions matter and that the world is somehow a better place for us having been there. This has gone beyond games and beyond endings. We’re very literally taking a crappy ending from an amazing franchise and turning it into something far bigger then it could’ve ever been on its own.

We’ve taken the negative experience for us and turned it into something that is going to benefit sick kids in hospitals all over the country. We’ve taken the idea of Shepard’s actions from a video game and translated into real world good deeds.

In a post I wrote the other night, I said that the endings we’ve seen are a cop out and are far less than the franchise deserves.

However, what this forum is doing, right now is different. What better ending can a game whose, in my opinion, underlying theme was persevering against something seemingly impossible , doing the right thing, overcoming differences, bringing people together for a common cause and in the end effecting a positive change on the universe around you, have than this: its fan base coming together to raise tens of thousands of dollars to bring the awesomeness of video games to kids who are otherwise in a terrible situation.

Nothing Bioware releases is ever going to give me the sense of satisfaction that I have right now.

We’re writing our own ending right now, through our actions.

The ending that Mass Effect deserved.
