OK, so I am not actually in charge here, but I would like to put in my two cents regarding asking for media exposure.
My personal feeling is that if an outlet is significantly focused on video games, or has already done a story about Mass Effect (like Forbes), I am all for alerting them to this drive. On the other hand, while additional donations never hurt, I don't believe it will be helpful to have regular, non-video-game news outlets link here. The video game community, or at least those who have played ME3, have the background to understand what we are asking and why. A random person from a CNN style news site would not have any basis for understanding what is going on.
Not trying to be rude, and I really do appreciate everyone's efforts to get the word out Just my personal feelings on the matter.
I'm going to be honest...this is way beyond just wanting to get the ending's changed. Any news media should cover this. This isn't just a victory for the BSN, but this is a victory for the gaming community in general.
Headlines "Disgruntled group of Gamers rally to raise over $26,000 for charity!"
I don't give a damn about retaking Mass Effect 3's ending right now (well, I do to a degree). I'm proud of what we've accomplished as a group, and hell, I want the world to know what an accomplishment this is. We're not an organized group. We're not an orginization. We're a bunch of people on a forum, with the only thing in common was that we hated the ending to a video game.
So, I would like to kindly disagree. Any news shoudl know abotu this. The video game news will report it right (hopefully, but we've seen the opinon pieces at IGN and Kotaku are like, and I don't think CNN could get it any worse).
This was a victory for all of us.
This is what needs to be emphasised should it get publicity.

They think we're petulent and disgusting for using charity to get what we want.
It is really stupid for someone to question the motives of every people that donated just because you feel its imooral or anything.
Gaming community got more important role than many will ever admit, and they simply cannot believe that a game and its fans can do such wonderous thing.

Either way, keep up the good work. I hope to be able to count myself among those who donated soon!

Also, Unique, I do want to say thank you for setting this all up. Just because I disagree with you about the news thing, doesn't mean I don't appreciate you any less for doing this. I don't know if you actually set up the site, but you made the OP giving light to this awesome charity. Without you, this might not have happened
Thank you very much
I do want to stress that this is 100% a a community effort, and that I am not any sort of official voice of this drive. Well, except that I am the only one who can change the ChipIn page... I want to hear everyone's thoughts about how we present this and what we are doing.
Much of the focus on this movement has been negative. Actually, that is what started this drive in the first place. I don't want to see mainstream news articles come down against us because they don't understand what we are hoping for.
On the other hand, much of the focus on this movement has been negative. This is what started this drive in the first place. Maybe we should be reaching out.
That's not a cut-and-paste error, that is me being conflicted. I welcome the attention, as long as they get the full story
Anyway, I am not asking anyone to stop promoting this in any form. Carry on, and hold the line.
I think it shouldn't be about the endings anymore and the page should reflect that. We all feel like this stopped being about bad endings awhile ago, no? Just make it a ME3 fan donation page.
No, I think I'm still pretty pissed off about it.

Hmm don't know if I agree, I appreciate the sentiment and the charity is obviously a great cause all to itself but the endings are still a part of why we are here. That's not to say I wouldn't donate for the sake of donating if we were to do this again

Everyone who has donated has given up something in order to show that we are passionate about this game, and that we can take our disappointment and channel it toward a worthy cause.
I am hesitant to call out particular donations, because everyone's donation matters. A $10 donation from someone who had to give up a meal is just as important - maybe even more so - as any other donation, regardless of the amount.
That being said, we had an incredibly generous donation here tonight, and I'd like to say to that person specifically, you have my thanks, and our thanks.

Haha, that's the funniest thing in the world to me now that I think about it. I hope any news source that picks this up uses that as a quote.rorako wrote...

I left my house 5 hours ago(it is currently 1:32AM) to go to my friends house(he is currently playing through ME3). He said he was nearing the ending, and I wanted to be there to see his reaction and guide his rage toward our cause. Unfortunately, he didn't finish the game tonight, although he does know the basics of how it ends. But, I digress...
When I left, the total donations were $10,106.42.
I come home, and see over $27,000 have been donated.
Please excuse me while I pick up the shattered pieces of my jaw up off the floor.

I for one am willing to commit, regardless of the outcome of the endings, to making this a yearly thing.
I don't see any way we could out-do our debut, though

Definitely. I think it's important not to lose sight of just what it is that got this whole thing rolling along(aside from people being awesome).

I'm in, for what little I can do. But yeah, I think we should keep it the way it is - this is a lot more important than the endings, but the disappointment over them is what brought us together, and it proves to people that "angry video game nerds" can do good things with their effort - take that away, and it's just "for once they're being nice until some other tiny thing enrages them".

I'm definitely in for a once yearly thing! Giving up a few drinks and one night out seems like a small price to pay for the good we might be able to do.UniqueName001 wrote...
