So, what about male Shepard? the guy's body looks like the body of the Greek god Apollo! he has a better body than 99% of the males in the planet, yet I don't see anyone protesting about that or labeling it as "sexist".

Because naked people are gross and the human body is icky! It's fine if the male characters are body builders with high cheekbones but if would be fan service to see the outline of where a dude's junk should be, apparently.

I think the female form is beautiful, it's art. Nudity isn't porn. I don't understand the "taboo" of seeing someone naked but then again I was born in a country where they weren't afraid of boobs enough to censor it on TV.

I don't care if they put in an appearance for a half-naked dude. That doesn't effect me in the least. The future lies in accepting what we are and what we enjoy. There's no use in shying away from it.

si, if things were equal i'd be all for it

but i mean, this about sums it up:

“Gamers get hella uncomfortable over male sexuality too. Can you imagine a ‘good male character who just happens to be wearing sexually exploitative outfits because he’s ok with his masculinity?’ Constantly has the camera pan lovingly over his asscrack and firm glutes, and big ole dangly ballsack that is totes sweaty from all this MMA and soldiering. Time to hit the showers, and do you, personally, think it’s ok to have a long slow pan up the dude’s package (indiscreetly hidden in a jock of course), to his chiseled physique and erect nipples (pierced). He’s not even a Bond-esque confident man, he’s basically a weird Bowie caricature that’s constantly having near-dickslips in every single cinematic as the completely nonsexualized female characters do their business of being gruff and shooting dudes and advancing the plot. Finally, at the end he falls in love (out of nowhere) and/or is killed by the big baddie.”

Also all you've done there is reversed the stereotyped gender rolls. Sexualized objectification of men is DIFFERENT than that of women, fundamentally. It is a result of a culture that puts value on things that don't (or shouldn't) matter at all in an advanced culture. We no longer have to choose our mates based merely on their physical fitness or prowess in order to get the best chance at health offspring. Our culture has, for the most part, no caught on to this.
Also that game would be pretty badass. I'd play it.

it's different because it's not sexual and it's not objectification

I’m glad to see this thread has grown to seven pages of real discussion.

This is an interesting thing about Mass Effect, I think. The franchise that on the one hand prides itself on being progressive about certain issues (I’m thinking homosexuality, perhaps there are others) is on the other hand profoundly stuck in cliched sexualization of women squadmates next to, as HJF4 pointed out, male “cool space monsters”.

A “hot mess”!

no you can't because it will never not be disturbing

For exactly the same reason why in the 'Art of Mass Effect Universe' art-book lore it explains her moving facial features and hair and how she once had skin over the metal frame - as an infiltration model she needs to accurately resemble the human form.
So sure.... there you go, cyber-cameltoe! (lol).

Exactly. She had to be modeled after an exact human (parts and all) to be a fail-proof infiltration unit. You don't infiltrate by blowing the door off the hinges. You need to blend in. Has anyone considered that she even used sex as a weapon? I don't see how the morality of that issue would present itself in a robot. TIM had no room for failure and probably programmed her to do whatever it took.

also TIM is the kinda sleezebag that would make sexbot assassins.

But it's pointless for him to make them unless he thought them useful and a realstic solution. Eva is an extremely expensive piece of hardware. He may be a sleazebag, but he's a smart sleazebag, and he'd only think they were useful for one reason...

It still remains that her existence is problematic.

He spent billions of credits on bringing Shepard back in ME2, only to spend billions more to try and have him killed in ME3.
He doesn't sound too conservative... or smart.

He brought Shepherd back due to the fact that he/she was human, and therefore he believed they'd be sympathetic to human concerns. He had a 50/50 chance of gaining a very powerful, very influential, ally.

i like it that people forget that this is a fiction

someone drew that vagina

someone rendered it

someone designed those folds

who was it

why did they do it

why

And I LOVE it. Great sci-fi action and story with some sexy mixed in.
Don't turn my favorite series into Halo... oh but wait, Halo has Cortana... that's too much sexualization right there already, isn't it?
Dragon Age and ME2 had ******.... no surprise it's in this one.

Btw, why were you looking at her crotch to begin with?

Her crotch in some shots does a good impression of a decent-sized dam. The question should be: how did you manage to miss it? :P

Seriously, you could go canoeing in that ravine!

What difference?, makes no difference?... just means swapping the massage oil for WD40.

You know, for after a hard day's night piloting in the Normandy's cockpit,.... her neck servos must be cramped and stiff and her elbows scuffed from holo-panel piloting....

*ahem*, - I'll get my coat

Interesting thread...as a female gamer and a 3D modeler I have to admit this is a bit disturbing, but hardly surprising. At this point I would be shocked if a female character in a game DIDN'T have giant ******, and a ridiculously thin shape, so why should I be shocked if the next step is to sculpt her genitals?

While the men in the game do fit an idealized mold it is far from the same because they are ALWAYS covered up and wearing heavy armor. It is not practical for these girls to be running around wearing practically nothing while getting shot at, but for some reason designers feel compelled to do this every single time even though I really doubt any guys here would suddenly find Miranda or Jack unappealing if they put on armor. They would still be beautiful and strong females, just less exposed. If your girlfriend in real life (you know, assuming you ever talk to girls) strutted around in Miranda's outfit you would probably be upset by it not turned on, especially if she was in public getting oggled and commented on by all your friends...but I'm just assuming this cause I personally found none of the human males really attractive even with their perfectly covered and perfectly shaped muscles.  They were boring characters and didn't deserve my time...

I would have romanced Mordin given the chance. His character is interesting, funny, and he has the frame of an anorexic flounder so...maybe i'm not the best one to argue this point. Either way, ideal body images are not going anywhere so I'll just hope that one day men begin feeling the pressure of these projected fantasies and start starving themselves, caking on makeup, and ripping out their own hair to satisfy the opposite sex...

To me it's just...REALLY weird because it means that not only did the Cerberus designer spent actual time to sculpt it...it also means somebody at Bioware did. Somebody spent like, REAL WORLD TIME modeling a robot vagina. And nobody walked past his screen and questioned him.

"Hey Frank, can you take a look at the ending and give us some feedback?"

"Not right now man, gotta put the finishing touches on this robot genitalia!"

"...Carry on."

I had a good laugh in this thread, never noticed it in the game itself. No idea why they went to that level of err...detail.

I did notice that she always sits with her legs crossed while in the Normandy, I guess this explains it. The thing that really stuck out at me during the game was Ashleys gravity and muscle defying bosom while she is lying flat on her back in hospital.

Right, because Thane wasn't the tortured soul pandering to the female, maybe gay male, audience? Ashley wasn't attractive in the first game. That must have been why I left her on Virmire, right? Wasn't her gross xenophobia? I'm sorry if the females complaining look like abominations. I'd also be sorry if they feel the need to moan over the design of characters in a video game, simply to take a moral high ground that they prevent any straight male from ascending to. I'm engaged, to a beautiful woman. I love her dearly, but have no shame admitting that if she looked like a pig I would not spend any measurable time with her. Therefore, no relationship could blossom. I wouldn't want one to.

All of the Talimancers, the fools they are many, are certainly not dedicated to the character because she's sexy. And I'm not blue & true just because I think LIara is attractive. Her character is innocent and endearing. Jacob, Thane, and Kaidan all shamelessly pander (perhaps not in a strictly physical sense for Thane or Kaidan) to females, just as Liara, Miranda, Jack, and Samara (I suppose E-DI as well for the less stable) to men. I remember someone earlier in her saying it was about 40% females playing, well they receive 3 (vs 8) of these pandered characters, not including lesbians. That's nearly 40%.

If you still want to be that much of a c**t about it, and the horrible ending hasn't forced you yet, stop playing the game. Just look at pornography. Oh that won't do it for you? So then you don't want nearly nude men in the game? So it isn't about equality, just you trying to wind someone up?

Firstly, if you wish to be taken seriously, try not referring to the OP as a "****".

Secondly, English, you speak it??

Oh, and: "I'm engaged..." I doubt that.

I don't think the OP was even involved in the current line of thought this thread has taken, and I didn't refer to anyone as a ****. Not that I really think it matters, but I would distinguish a **** from someone who is being a **** about something. And of course I speak English, I am English! But I do think you need work on sentence structure. I've presumed that you intended, 'do you speak it?' And you can doubt whatever you want, as I think I must have upset you with a line about abominations.

I have to be honest, I'm amazed you're English. You think I should work on my sentence structure? I think you should work on your attitude.

And using the word c**t in a thread that's going to be sensitive to women's issues is akin to waving a red flag. You're a brave one, I'll give you that. "If you want to be a c**t..." is basically calling someone a c**t no matter how you wish to paint the issue, and no matter how far you wish to remove yourself from the statement.

You didn't upset me with "a line about abominations" (eh?), you upset me because you haven't the slightest clue what you're on about.

No, I think you're upset because you haven't a clue what I'm on about. Perhaps, I'm not really sure, my initial post followed too closely to yours, and you've taken it as an attack. You should know, that wasn't my intention.
