Wow, this thread expanded a lot while I was away!
Took me an hour to read it all!

And about Liara, I do concur that she's being pushed into the default "best position".
Another thread I posted commented that it's odd since I have no LI that Liara is sitting right next to me (in the Normandy group photo).

To explain, if there was a system to rank my social interactions with current and former squadmates, Ashley is at the top, Liara is 3rd from the bottom.

Heck, even Traynor is above her!
Someone commented that Traynor looks annoyed in the photo and my quip was that it was because Liara pushed her aside to hog the spotlight next to Shepherd.

So yes, it appears that Liara is heavily featured no matter what personal choices you make.
Which is very odd to me, considering that I barely acknowledge her.

And in response to OP (who probably isn't reading this after a year of dormancy).

Hello there, happy to prove you wrong!

I've just grown disinterested in Mass Effect in general, there's only so much multiplayer and loot box opening I can do before getting really really bored.

But I'm keeping in contact now and then, just not as much as before.

I'm in a holding pattern, so to speak, waiting to see what BioWare does next to continue the Mass Effect series of games.

I suppose Liara is easiest to make heavily featured like that, since the Virmire survivor of either sex can die, and Liara is bisexual.

Yeah, Ashley Williams really takes a nose dive as a character after ME1. In ME1, she was great, but her cameo in ME2 and her role in ME3 are both pretty bad. She has some of the worst dialog in ME2 and ME3. I am not sure what happened to her writing or character development, but you can tell, she definitely got put on the backburner.

Also, waiting to bring Ash back to Eden Prime in ME3 is a huge disappointment. She doesn't say anything unique or special about returning to where she was first stationed, survived the geth attack and met Shep. I went into this scene expecting a lot of Ashley content and got basically nothing.

In general, Ash really feels like she was dismissed and considered low priority by the devs. They clearly put a lot more effort into other characters like EDI, Tali, Garrus etc, than they put into Ash.

Good to know. I was kind of planning on having her around for a new playthrough and waiting to play From Ashes that late. I guess that isn't going to happen.

The way Jacob talks about Eden Prime in ME2, you'd think Ash would have even more to say about it. She's basically like a Sole Survivor Shep, just with Geth instead Thresher Maws (maybe not that extreme, but it affects her similarly).

Ashley does comment some specific things if brought to Eden Prime for "From the Ashes" (not a lot, but there are a few lines as they approach the site in the shuttle). There's a youtube video of the whole mission with Ash in the squad, I'll look for it and post the link.
