I agree with it likely being a controlled explosion, as opposed to the uncontrolled explosion of the relay in Arrival. I was also under the impression that we had gained FTL communication that was independent of the relays, so there shouldn't be much of a problem with top scientists having ships in their area gather bits of the destroyed relays to study (which was previously impaired by their fear of destroying a relay; not really a problem any more).
That said, if I have missed something obvious (or not so obvious), I'd love to know it.
And, uh. Shameless bump.

@bleetman and Moirai - Yeah, hence why I've said that the way it was done in the game wasn't the way it should have been done. I do back up Aethyta, though...they needed to find a way to make their own, to become independent of Reaper technology.
Absolutely agree. However, story-wise, it would have been nice, from a personal perspective, to give everyone some breathing space by leaving the relays in place to allow general recovery and rebuilding to take place, before they started work on replacing the relays with their own.
That would have at least taken the edge of the endings a bit. Just to let everyone get home first and take stock of things...

Definitely with you there.
Are we going to see BioWare do anything like that, though? Most likely not, as we probably won't get a whole re-write of the endings. What you've said makes way more sense, though.

Although I respect Bioware for releasing such a wonderful trilogy that has me emotionally committed to the point of tears, it pains me to see such an anti-climactic ending. I invested good time and money into this; something that is very difficult to come by as of late. I don't think it's too unreasonable to be given a few answers, in the very least, if not a sound ending.
Understandably this was their world to create, but, as cheesy as this sounds, it became a little part of my world as well. In the end, I was left wondering, "Wait, WHERE IS MY CREW?"
This is my main concern. Where in the universe did my beloved comrades end up, and will they even survive?
In the back of my mind I start to think that this is a set-up to another DLC that would need to be purchased, which in my opinion is highly disappointing. I thought this was supposed to be the absolute end, where instead we get... This.
As an additional sidenote, did anyone else start having an instant recollection to the Princess Bride during that epilogue where it was a story being told by the grandfather? Anyone?

Did they just run out of time and emergency shipped the game with a rushed ending?
Or was that statement just deliberately made to mislead us?

I just watched that video... his take on the 'Shepard lives' bonus... so true!ArchAngel_009 wrote...
All my grievances summed up in this video. Very well said.
I think I used a similiar arguement about it. "It's like those bonus sequences you got at the end of videogames in the 90's when you beat them on hard. Doesn't change the ending, it's there like some easter egg to tell you there is going to be a sequel... maybe. Oddly enough if there was, it was never based off of that anyways." But his Magneto reference is even better. Bravo.
Thanks for sharing it man.
