I think you're going to see more and more news publications pick up this story as more people finish the game and add their voices to the movement.  I think the fact that MSNBC and Forbes picked up the story already is a testament to that.

his main page needs to all put in articles that address the fact that the whole "artistic vision" argument is garbage. Seriously. The Sistine Chapel was done on comission

Came across this article in another thread as well. I think it should probably go on the list. Keep holding the line guys.

Another thing I feel I should mention, even if it's already been mentioned before.

The Arrival from ME2. Supposed to be a prologue to ME3, and yet you're never once really reminded that your descision had an impact. Whether you tried to warn the colony or not, the "trial" in the beginning of ME3 doesn't even bring it up. They simply want you to come up with a plan for the Reapers.

Now, this may totally be nitpicking on my part. You're incarcerated/grounded - so the trial was gotten over with before the Reaper invasion. Okay, that's fine...

But there's never any other real mention of it - it doesn't affect gameplay in any other way.

Hell, you don't even meet that many Batarians.

(Oh, and by the way, yes, I have the Bring Down the Sky DLC for ME1. I got the cameo with the terrorist, but not even he really seemed all that pissed off about what I did, considering ONE Paragon reply is enough to get him to join up with you.)

While the question of the "artistic vision" of BioWare is peripherally related to our cause, I don't believe that debating the artistic similartities between what we see in the game and comissioned works is a theme of this thread. That's a different argument for a different day. What I created this thread for is to comisserate over the endings, to swap theories, and other such things.

Yes, BioWare has their artistic vision and the right to write the end to their series the way they choose...no, I don't believe they did it very well. Sure, there are questions as to the legitimacy over their claim to "artistic license" when some of their images look very, very similar to other works, but I don't want to bring that debate into this topic.

I'd rather keep other debates out of this one...no need to go mixing things up, y'know?

Bump for a good thread that generally described the issues we have with the ending while remaining reasoned and not reduced to whining.

I hope there is a fix, simply for the sake of choice. Actually, the current ending fit really well for how my Shepard's story was going, but I wouldn't wish the same fate on my other Shepards, or the galaxy in general. It would be nice to have some other choices so it's not completely nihilistic.

Agreed with all OP points. Loved the game, loved the lead up to the last - but then - well it's been said well already. Just adding another fan voice to the chorus. Joker - who I love too, and EDI - but to take the scale down from the entire galaxy to two people standing and looking at the sky just does not provide any sense of "I am done" - much less a feeling of success on any level, which I felt I deserved through the years of effort - as a player, even if Shep could never be aware of it, I could have been.

Also - I found it almost insulting that I was slapped back on to the bridge of my ship afterwards and told to wait for DLC to play.  I am fine with DLC in games, but at the end of a trilogy to be tacked on after finishing - not really.  The end should be the end, especially if my long time character is dead / the whole world altered.

I'll support this but Ill say right now I am not one of those people who are mad because the ending wasnt happily ever after. I mean it would be nice if there was a happily ever after ending for those who wanted it but what really upset me was the whole Normandy thing. I mean it makes no sense what-so-ever. If they just take that part of the ending out I would be fine. I have actually always preferred bitter sweet endings especially when the hero is willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of all. So overall I wouldnt mind a happy ending but what I really want is a ending where my Shepard can make the ultimate sacrifice and my squadmates dont get screwed over.
As for the adult and kid at the end credits I just think that is there to show people Shepards sacrifice hasn't been forgotten.

Personally I'm ok with the ending because I like tragedies, and  think sometimes it's necessary to have a story end sadly or where the bad guys win to keep the suspense in other stories; if you always know the good guy will win absolutely, it's not as exciting.  My beef is that the choices were extremely limited in the end, and it pretty much ended one way (with a few slightly different flavors).  I think it's in the spirit of Mass Effect to allow more options.

I appreciate the bumps, y'all, but I know the mods have been on a bump spree lately...accompany bumps with some discussion, and that would be fantastic. :D

I might as well throw in my two cents on the Indoctrination theory. I guess it would make a good head canon to some, but that would also mean that Shepard gets Indoctrinated regardless. I'm not sure I like that idea...

I have to say that I've become very much a believer in there being something decidely unreal about everything that happens after Harbie shoots his purple space laser at you. Little made any 'real world' sense to me in my own playthrough after that point, and I admit that am firming up on the belief that it's all being played out in Shep's head. It felt too dreamy and disconnected.

Well, that and the fact that all my armour had gone after being space lasered and I was now wearing just my casual uniform, coupled with the fact that I was moving at 'dream' speed with a infinite ammo gun that killed with a couple of shots.

I have to be honest and say it was a major 'WTF is going on here?' moment for me when I got to that part.

If it does go that way, I feel that my original choice to take the Destroy option (chosen because my Shep would never ever back down from her intended mission) seems the most sane, as the other options could be interpreted as Shep being fooled into killing her/himself and letting the Reapers survive. Destroy could represent you breaking the indoctrination and carrying out your intended task.

But we will see. That said, this article is kind of interesting as a sidenote:

www.thevine.com.au/life/tech/mass-effect-3-and-the-ending-debacle20120314.aspx

Not that any of that changes the fact that, whoever I was actually talking to, I wanted my fourth choice, dammit! :P

I thought about this and posted it on one of the other threads, though I'm told some people have already brought it up already:

Shepard is very much a Jesus figure: the savior of humanity, sacrificing his life to save everyone. According to Dante's model, Jesus went through hell, then purgatory, and then into heaven after he died, and good people who go to heaven follow him in this model when they die. When Shepard first enters the "Citadel," it is dark red with bodies everywhere: Hell. When he is between floors with TIM and Anderson, where he is in stalemate,he is in Purgatory. Then, he passes out and ASCENDS to a bright, open area with a child of light: Heaven. It is very symbolic and almost unrealistic in that sense. You could go on to say the Reapers are playing to Shepard's understanding about what heaven, hell, and apotheosis are, trying to appeal to his desire to be a "Savior", also evidence that the "destruction" choice is shown to have the worst effects, and is highlighted in red.

Anyway, just throwing it out there.

I'm not sure this is as clear to the cause as you'd like, or that the author would be happy to see it here, or whatever, but to me, the message is clear enough:

Destructoid is getting on my nerves really. Two reasons 1) They attack and are really snidy (and admit it to it no less like it's acceptable journalistic behavour) about our charity drive. This is disguisting and honestly I am confused why no real journalist have ever did an expose on the 'unprofessionalism' of this industries 'journalist'. They are overpaid VBloggers. Nothing more.

2) I really hate how video game press never mentions the ending suck on camera. A few have finally admitted that in under the table comments, but they never make said comments on Camera. On Camera they act like all is perfect and get snidy. Seriously... real media that is not FOX should run an expose on game journalistic charlatanism once and for all.

Stand firm my friends, the more they push the more we will stand and hold the line. Just wish it will finally bite them in the arse finally.
