@starjay - Eh, let the "pack of wolves" be. They won't matter in the long run, anyway. Focusing our efforts on them too much will only detract from what we wish to accomplish. Deal with them as they come and let them roll off your back like rain water.
@Moirai - I hear ya. The fact I've been fighting a flu the past week doesn't help me one bit. Though, I'd like to think I'm being as level-headed as possible despite that. Lol.
I had the friend who introduced me to ME text message me the other day. His text said, "What the eff just happened???" Lol. He just finished the game. Any of you have similar experiences with your friends outside the boards? What were their reactions?

Posté 18 mars 2012 - 12:05
Both their reactions were along the lines of "what the heck was that". Basically they both thought the ending was crap, didn't resolve anything in any way and didn't make a lot of sense.
One of them who is believes that singleplayer content should always have a good narrative thought that Bioware just dropped the ball on this one. Regardless of what their intent was for the ending, he thought they just did a poor job.
He didn't think the ending took away from the whole experience and he doesn't feel strongly enough for it to voice it online but he agrees that the ending was terrible and wasn't worthy of Mass Effect.

She finally came on a few hours back, and we've been talking since.
Basically, she hasn't slept well and was in tears on and off during the day.
I think that says it all...
I mean, I can deal with Bioware upsetting me, sort of... But when they cause grief to my friends, it makes me think some rather unsavoury things.
I also have another friend who is part way through the game and is currently talking about what he will do on a second playthrough.
*sigh*
This hurts...

I know exactly how she feels.
After my fiance finished his first play through he had this tight expression on his face and informed me he wouldn't be playing it anymore and that Bioware dropped the ball. He knew how upset I would be but I had made him promise not to spoil anything for me.
Another friend of mine called it a punch to the gut. It's been disappointment across the board.

I know exactly how she feels. And thanks for letting them know via twitter. You can easily use the argument 'it's just a game' but the way Bioware builds their games and the way they focus on connecting players to the story and people in the story makes it more than that. If they wanted to control exactly how the ending played out they should have never given us this much control in the first place. They made their own bed.

Saying Mass Effect is "just a game" is saying Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter is "just a book." Or that Star Wars is "just a movie." Or that Star Trek is "just a show." Stories spun well have always been a part of human culture, from the days we were in caves. We told stories to illustrate morals to children, or to teach us to have hope and carry on even when things look dire. The best stories make us care, and they become a part of us.
I'm still running around like a chicken with its head cut off, but hopefully I'll get to updating the OP tonight before I leave for my flight in the morning. I hope y'all are well!

"The Guardian
What is it, exactly? We get that the kid was a visual representation of the Guardian, but there is so much that isn’t explained. Who or what was the Guardian? What was its origin? Obviously, the answer helps us understand more about the Reapers, but we’re never given that answer. The Guardian’s justification for creating the Reapers to “end the cycle” raises questions in of itself. What’s the Guardian’s story specifically? We’re left to kind of figure that one out for ourselves. An “Investigate” option would have been really handy right there at the end."
I believe the Guardian is basically the Legion of the Reapers or something like that. If you talk somewhat paragon to the reaper you kill on Rannoch and tell him "whatever was the civilization that created you (or something like that), they're long gone, dead, caput." To wich the reaper gives up trying to convince you since he knows you're right. So i guess the reapers were created loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong ago by a race like the quarians, then exterminated them and they began their whole purging cycle.
In wich case, the indoctrination theory with the whole paragon/TIM - renegade/Anderson, becomes even more possible since the Guardian is just trying to make you let the reapers live. In fact, i bet it takes control of you instead of you controling them since he stands there looking at you like "what a fool" and in destroy he just vanishes.
Anyone?

On delaying the game
In march 2011, he also faced a roomful of Mass Effect developers who expressed concern about hitting the promised holiday release date... New release date set for March 2012. After much deliberation, the CAT mission (or rather, the Prothean mission) had to be removed from the set of tasks. The missions would later be completed as post-release content"
So cutting content and putting it in as pay DLC becase the executives won't listen to the fact that the deadline is unreasonable is suppose to make us feelbetter? So they unintentionally milked us for extra money with day 1 DLC instead of intentionally planning it right from the start.
[EDIT]
The Day 1 DLC, Bugs, and rush ending I think are further evidence that the product was rushed out the door. At least they allowed them to extend it back in March when DA2 BOMBED. The meeting was probably along the lines of.
BW "We told you we need more time."
EA "Yea whatever. We are here to talk about ME3 and make sure you guys don't F that one up like you did DA2"
BW shakes head and sighs "Well just like with DA2 we need MORE TIME to make a QUALITY product."
EA "Yea whatever, I guess we can push it back one financial quarter, So we'll give you till begining of March."
BW "We still don't think that is going to be enough time."
EA "Well can't you cut something"
BW "Well there was this new character we were planning on adding which is likely to take a bit of time be could possible cut him"
EA "Or better yet you could work on him after for DLC that we can charge for I like this plain, March it is"
EA rep walks out.
BW "Wait weren't done"
Can you imagine how much worst it would of been had it released back in 2011 Holiday like originally planned? It would of probably been as bad as DA2. I guess we should be glad we got as much as we did.
[/EDIT]
Casey on after Mass Effect 3
"Whatever we do would likely happen before or during the events of Mass Effect 3, not after"
Wow! That statement, like the endings, makes little sense. A game that takes places during the same time as the events of ME3 would have to be almostentirely action based because you can't have the player have any sort of effect on what's going on in the universe or they would of tied into ME3 directly. Not to mention why would the fans care about such a story given the current ending, where they know it doesn't matter.
Before the ME3 events or even before the ME series in general would also suffer from more action problem. The player would have to be just as railroaded as they were at the end of ME3, and even more so, to be sure their choices don't effect the history as outlined in the other games.
And if they do allow choice by having it be on some really remote colony itagain begs the issue, why does this matter when we know all they other more important events are going on else where. Oh yea and none of it matters cause of ME3 Ending.
And if they go the action route how many of us are going to get it? If I wanted an action game I'd go play Gears of War or Halo or any number of other choices. I, like many here, play ME for the engaging story of an RPG.

With the ending what it is, I think it's going to be tough to make a compelling space-opera during the events of Mass Effect 3 when at the end we all know what's going to happen. Note I said space-opera, not character driven coming of age story or something.

I heard about this but I couldn't find it. Thank you!
It's also nice to hear someone telling mainstream media and the world that more adults play video games than children.

In light of what is going on right now, I would imagine that they are re-evaluating that statement and looking at options.
Let's see. And keep it cool, calm and civil. If they are prepared to give, we need to be as polite and constructive as possible to achieve the best outcome.

I use the word perfection here in no light matter. I have never read, watched, or felt any narrative to be its equal. I think this is because of the nature of the medium. No where else can you so actively take part in something that has so much immersion, connection, and realism. This is simply it. I would even argue that it is greater then the greatest things ever written. You simply cannot interact (empathize) with a book in the same way you can a video game.
Endings of books was changed due to reader demands. I think that it is safe to say that we should also be able to wrangle some kind of explanation or elaboration from Bioware.
