I wouldn't mind the ending be as interactive as the game with its own cut scenes for each of my squad mates.

I always pictured tali looking out towards the horizon of her home world taking off her mask, her pale skin and blue eyes and blond bangs spilling out from her suite.

Always wanted to wind up with my love interest and be able to choose between whatever love interest I chose. Even resume the ones from ME2. But they seem to let you talk to them about certain aspects of the past, but they never join the crew

The Rachni Queen: I had so many hopes of having them show up in battle and save the day and Shepard looking to his critics and saying... See I told you! That would be so bittersweet! I mean having to save her again I was like. WHAT, I really am rethinking that acid bath you avoided....

The collector base: destroyed or not needs to have a role. I destroyed it so it very will still could have a role. If so disregard.

Keeper research: I always thought there would be something that went with that. But it never really did.

Harbinger: He is now your Nemesis and just like sovereign there needs to be some type of showdown. Instead of Harbinger sitting in space going... Hmmm I wonder what this (Red/Blue/Green) explosion is? Probably nothing since I did kill Shepard after all!

The Destiny Ascension:  ... What a ship, and only glimpses in the battle sequence. Especially after it was saved something needs to be done here.

Exploration: Maybe not important during the war, but now that I am a "Legend"

Martyrdome: ... This has just been done so many times it is annoying. I mean Prophet Crysis 2, Dues Ex, Metal Gear 4 (who didn't Martyr themselves in that game) It's really a cheat on people who play these games. We take on the role of these characters and essentially you martyring us. Its such a bummer.

The SSV Normandy: You already killed this ship once, its fully upgraded. Do you have to destroy it again? I mean... It's the Normandy darn it, Plus what was the point of those thermal pipes.I would really like to use them, because they are lined with liquid gel or something inside.

Mass Effect 4: Please don't, if the last sequence was indoctrination, and you planned DLC. Just wrap it up. I can't stand this push for DLC if it means I have to download the ending to the game. Really really lame and it shows the tricks your industry is trying to do to squeeze more money out of this before its over. With EA at the forefront who couldn't of guessed that being a possability. BioWare though. You are... You are BioWare. I mean you guys rock man! Except for the Kotor 2 ending I mean its better than this ending and it was the Ebon Hawk flying away I mean what the heck happened to everyone?... It was just... Talk about an old wound being reopened on that. But hey I stuck around!!! See!

Those Lost Endings thoughare aggrevating. No one even likes lost anymore because it was something about the end wasn't as good as the journey getting there... Someone find this person and harm them...

Harbringer again: You have no idea how much I want to shoot him with the Thalix Cannon. Like unbelievably bad. I dream about picking that thing apart bit by bit.

Catalyst AI: Can we you know... Dump his AI core into the suns Corona.... WHAT? Its not really a child.

An ending where we run around Earth talking to our squad mates as Earth is rebuilt. Seeing where each of them going, or where we meet up with our squad and all the people you talk to on each of their home planets. Making the ending Metal Gear 4 worthy if not better. I mean they knew how to end a series... You copy them, not Stupid Dues Ex Endings. Can I send you my snapped Dues ex disc... Seriously? We can support the postal service!

DUES EX HUMAN REVOLTUION: If you own this game just snap the disc right now. Seriously!

Last but not least. Your just messing with us on these endings right? HAHAHA? (More Desperately) RIGHT?... PLEASE?

Oh and... Are you hiring writers? take a look at this...

As Timmy from south park would say... I mean... Come on!

I haven't posted in nearly a year, but I feel like I just need to throw in my support for the sake of giving Mass Effect the ending it deserves.

The OP said it extremely well, I don't think there is much more to say.

Really, for me, I'd say "Change it so what happens to the Normandy at least makes some kind of sense!" - hell crash on Earth if they really have to crash somewhere, or preferably land and raise a glass to departed friends (basically Shepard and the other two who get killed in the final assault, and anyone else lost along the way). That would probably be good enough.

More would be nice, but not strictly necessary. That change alone would probably make a lot of us happier.

Also, as a note, movie companies have changed an ending on many occassions, they show the movie to a limited audience and re-edit if the audience doesn't like it.  And sometimes what ending they put on in the theatre changes when it comes out on DVD.  This isn't really that different.

BTW - Again, the OP said it, but I will repeat it.  i loved the game, its just the ending, as said, the last 10 minutes.  BLAH!  Completely depressing. :(

If you got time OP, you should take a look at this, it has great "synergy"(haha) with your  post
http://social.biowar...index/9746186/1

My dissertion of the ending can be boiled down to the following, some of which have already been mentioned many times but I'd like to share to all of you my two cents.

In the discussion, there will be
1. Plotholes
2. Guardian Hypothesis
3. Ending Grievances

1. Plotholes

1. Why was the Normandy leaving?
2. Where are the squadmates you took on your run to the beacon?
3. How does Shepherd survive when the Citadel gets destroyed?

(There would be more, but I would like to explain them in the following section)

2.Ending Interpretation/Hypothesis
The Guardian is created by maybe the first and most advanced race in the galaxy. They saw the threat of creator vs created, did not want all organics to be wiped out, ergo created the Reapers as a fail-safe plan. The reapers only "reap" the advanced races and leaves the un-evolved precisely because Reapers stops all organics from being wiped out by their own creations.

The Crucible is designed as a test to the current cycle of organics. If they manage to build it, they would be offered choices (With plotholes)

1. Destroy the Reapers, screw the fail-safe plan, and maybe we will create something that would wipe everything out, maybe not.

2. Control the Reapers, Reapers leave, Galaxy supposedly rebuild, the threat of creator vs created still exists.
3. Sythesis, integrative thinking if you will:innocent:. Best of both worlds combined, but Relays are destroyed, Galaxy reverts back to primitive stage w/t relays. Many logistical problems. (The entire galaxy at Sol)

3.Ending Grievances
The Problem/Confusion with the Endings.
Lets go through this one at a time.

First and foremost, we do not get closure on any aspects of the game we care about.
What happens to our beloved squadmates? This has already been elaborated countless times, I won't say more.

Secondly, choosing the paths the Guardian gives you is completely divergent to Shepherd's personality.
When has Shepherd ever been content with what he's been told? Reapers? We have dismissed that claim...Collectors? Pfft, Suicide Mission...Peace with Krogans and Turians? Dream on.
Yes, the Guardian may have been incomprehensibly powerful and old, and it is easy to get intimidated, but did Shepherd show fear in the presence of Soverign on Virmire?

Now, to the endings themselves
First let me say that I am not against imperfect, happy endings. They are often excelent plot devices that makes the story timeless. The final 10 minutes our epic trilogy however, leaves us with a completely different feeling compared to a good "sad" ending.

1. Destroying the Reapers, let the consequence play out. This ending, I have no issue with, other than the fact of how Shepherd survives. (And why does the relay and Citadel get destoryed?)

2. Controlling the Reapers. Why does the Citadel and Relays get destroyed in this ending? Shouldn't this be the status-quo ending, where we live to hope that we organics, after this war, have learned to work together with synthetics. (Geth/Quarian Paragon ending) Why does the galaxy need to be forever altered in this ending?

Some may argue that we don't know if Geth/Quarian can stay at peace forever, but that is the point isn't it? The resounding theme throughout the trilogy? Having HOPE and FAITH ! Without it, Saren may not have been stopped, Collectors might as well as taken all the humans, and the Crucible may not have been built. Isn't the Genophage conflict Paragon resolution about placing enough FAITH in Wrex, Eve, and HOPING that they would guide the Krogans away from history?

3. Synthesis, I actually have no problem with this ending also. Other than the fact that we don't get closure for our comrades. It is a choice of reverting the galaxy back a primitive stage.

(Without the relays, travel and trade would be paralized, no Citadel means no galactic control...hey another inter-speices war:wizard:)

This is not a rant for a change in the ending, it is simply a list, if you will, of the things that to me did not make sense. At the end of such trilogy so grand in scope and immersion, one should feel closure. Most of us however, feel confused and agitated. That, I think, is not Bioware had intended.

TL;DR version
Ploholes that confuses the ending.
Why are the relays and the Citadel seemingly destroyed in all three endings?
CLOSURE ON OUR TEAMMATES

Something about the endings just don't add up. We are certainly missing pieces of the puzzle. I'm not saying hold our hands and give us the story book ending, I just think we should see the crew make it out, and not leave their fates ambiguous.

The thing that I think we should really emphasize is that the rest of the game is amazing, the whole trilogy is masterfully crafted. We only take issue with the final 15-20 minutes.

I, at least, am not demanding a "new" ending. What I am demanding is a clarification of all the questions listed here.

What we have in the game is the most ignoble end to the Normandy imaginable.

If they take nothing else about all the criticism seriously, I hope they will still somehow alter or clarify the role of the Normandy in the ending.
