MrBtongue's video (see link below) is without a doubt one of the most balanced and comprehensive critiques of the ending I've seen to date (clocking in at a whopping 39 minutes). Through compelling analysis placing Mass Effect within the larger framework of the Sci-Fi genre, the author establishes the illogical, convoluted reasoning (which runs counter to the established mythos of the Mass Effect Universe) required to make sense of the ending. Key talking points include: genre, character focus, central conflict, and (perhaps most importantly) narrative coherence, discussing how the ending of Mass Effect 3 eschews the conventions of all four as they've been represented in the franchise up until that point. He succinctly describes ways in which Bioware could improve on the ending provided:

1) Lose the hologram kid
2) Get the mood right
3) Focus on characters
4) Keep it simple

In short, this video offers a wealth of useful information Bioware should be apprised of when considering how to potentially amend the ending of Mass Effect 3 via future DLC. Bottom line: this is must-watch material for anyone following the Mass Effect 3 ending controversy.

Mass Effect 3 Ending: Tasteful, Understated Nerdrage

Fantastic video. Really encapsulates everything that was wrong and goes throw blow by blow.

Chuck Wendig, an author/screenwriter weighs in on ME3 and its ending(he's a fan of the series, it seems, and has played through them).

Not sure if this would be fan material or something else. While not a journalist he does have experience in the art of story-telling and one would think his words on the subject would carry more weight, no? Anyway.. warning, it's his blog and he likes to swear:

Awesome thread... been looking for something like this to link to friends who are recently finishing the game. Now I can clean up my personal bookmarks.

Just a bump, plus a reminder: please post back if you are from a country that's not yet 'bannered' here, and not on the map at:

http://s1248.photobu...ntry-fleets.jpg

If we can get most of this green, and onto a flag, anyone in Edmonton willing to shimmy up a flagpole and post it outside the Bioware offices? Gee, I might actually be half serious here.
cheers

Hey guys! Thanks for all the links! It's really helping me out, since I don't have all that much time to scour the internet this week for new stuff. I really, really, really appreciate it!!!

Keep up the good fight!

Took the time to watch it in 10min. segments. Great, great video, articulates very well.

Narrative Cohesion is especially nice.
1. You don't introduce new elements in the final 10 minutes.
2. Choices are meaningless w/t consequences
3. Confusion of main conflict.

Glad someone else found this link. I was about to post myself. Heck I will post myself again to make sure it got some coverage.

www.youtube.com/watch

I think he points out the biggest part of what went wrong, the ending looses narrative coherence, and not just introduces a new 'character' for the resolution but an entirely new conflict. Heck even the light forshadow of this 'conflict' that is introduced in the end is mostly done via the DLC character only...

Say, could you make a 'Greek' fleet? I know my signature lists me on UK, but that's just where I'm at. Also, it wouldn't hurt to show some extra support to cover that map :P

Just finished up another ME3 PT. Yep. The ending is still as WTF and bad as I remember.

But I lived. So..woohoo...?

Though, I have to admit it's visually stunning and awesome. My roommate watched just the epilogue part and he was like, "WTF? How can you hate that?" And I grumbled, "You have to play all the games and watch the whole ending to get it, goofball." LOL.

I can't even bring myself to play the SP.

Havn't touched it since my first PT.

Would it be possible when adding new links/media coverage to get an * or something for the new content? The list is getting long (I like that, gives different perspectives) and every time I check back its hard to remember which articles I have already read.

I can definitely do that. I'll probably add a "Recent News" section. I agree the list is getting a bit long and unweildy. XD

I can fully sympathise with that. I'm exactly the same. One playthrough and...I just can't be bothered now. It's kind of depressing really. I was so hyped to play it. And now it just lays on my desk, under some paperwork.

Still...let's hope we'll get something from BioWare that will make us want to play it again. :)

Just found this. It's pretty good break down of how the ending breaks with the rest of the series.
