I tried to ignore the indoctrination theory but the more this goes on and the more we hear from Bioware the more I find myself just wishing it were true or that they'd just use it because the alternative just seems to be getting an expansion of a crap ending.

ie: desperation.

Welcome back! I look forward to the OP update. :)

You know what? I agree with you. I really, really didn't want the IT to be true because of what it represented as a business decision. As a consumer I hoped beyond hope that it wasn't the plan all along.

To a degree I still hope that. But I've also come to recognize that it is an excellent excuse to fall back on and would allow Bioware to give us exactly what we want while still saving (some) face.

So I still hope it wasn't the plan all along, but I also hope that they run with it anyway.

I don't think I will ever run with the IT. Not saying it is not a clever idea. I just will never support what it represents to the industry. At best it can be the cheeky end of a cliffhanger with a planned sequal that directly continues it. Never as the end of a trilogy and never as a means to wait out for a true ending DLC. The True End should be in the game.

Basically IT would also be fine if it happened like at the 3/4 mark and then you wake up and finish the game and get the real ending.

The other reason I don't like it is the same reason what you get in the understated nerdrage video series. The video where he covers IT.

I had many reasons for disliking the IT. I thought it was kind of clever how the fans managed to piece that together, but what it meant in my eyes was unacceptable.

Now, though, it's just plain old desperation. I want to be able to play the series again and it seems like the IT is the only way for me to do that without changing the ending, as Bioware has said they would not do.

The damage has been done, regardless of what happens with the extended cut, but I think I just really want to salvage this one last series because I already invested so much time, money and emotion in it. It's hard to throw it all away. I have a problem. ;(

I wonder, if the ending is never really fixed properly, if this is going to be a thing of the internet future. Instead of recording someone's reaction to 2girls1cup people will get their friends to play the Mass Effect series and then make sure they record them when they get to the ending.

I think that in order to have any real meaning, you'd have to get them play all 3 games before you get to the ending... And since many people know ME as 'The game (/series) with the crappy ending', I'm not sure you're gonna convince many to invest 100+ hours to it.

It's a very unfortunate reality...the ME series is going to have a legacy as a game that has a bad ending - or, at least, a lackluster ending - unless the ending is completely redone or if new ending options are added. It'll be forever known as "that game where your choices supposedly were supposed to matter," and held up as a case study in what NOT to do for future companies that want to make a game based on player choice. Mass Effect had the potential to be the shining example, the forerunner and vanguard of the game of player choice and amazing story. But it's shaping up to be the series that made huge strides, but didn't quite make it. It's like that scene in Cool Runnings, where the guy trips and falls during the Olympic qualifying run for the Jamaican team, in a way.

I want to believe in Bioware, I really do. But after the turd DA2 was, and then this ending... I vowed: not another dime. And I will stick to it until ME3's issues are addressed in a suitable manner. Not "expanded endings"... fixed endings.

I've put in 180 hours on my main alone. I don't even want to play through the game again with my other characters, which is a damn shame. I loved everything up to the final 5 minutes. Those 5 minutes keep me from ever touching it again, and that's saying something.

This used to be my favorite game series... please fix it.

All the pretty colors! I'm glad you were able to fix the all-yellow-all-the-time issue with the links.

That's really slick. :D

Let's see if there is something I haven't read, now..

@Oson: I'm right there with you buddy. Bioware is pretty much dead to my fiance and unless Bioware replaces all that nonsensicle space magic or turns it into an indoctrination attempt they'll be dead to me too.

Fixing my trust will be a far longer project, though, and it's going to take some time.

@PedEgg I don't like the Indoctrination Theory any more than the regular one because of the still-remaining plot holes that aren't addressed, and because it's an easy escape for Bioware if they're slimy. My thoughts were summed up here pretty well:

Dude does some good reviews of the ending.

IT always rubbed me the wrong way but it feels like we're running out of options. I'd much rather they just retcon the end and give us something more fitting to the series, but as a last resort, I'd rather get that than the same soul-crushingly bad ending and choices. As it is right now, no personalized ending in the world will save the series for me if the space magic BS is canon.

Bioware is too busy digging themselves an artistic integrity hole.

That's absolutely how I feel. With ME1 and 2, as soon as I finished the game, I started again with new characters. Since the ending of ME3, I haven't been able to touch it again. I can't bear to go through it again at the moment knowing that ending is coming. It's pretty much ruined the replay value for me.
