I cannot unlock the blood mage. The desire demon is willing to talk but my mages keep refusing, saying something like "I know better than to bargain with you." Even Moody Morry won't do it. Do you have to use a PC mage?

Yes, you must have a mage PC to unlock the spec.

Thanks. Will Wynne be upset with you just for unlocking the blood mage, or do you actually have to choose it as a specialization?

wynn wont know, kinda like if you use reaver spec when you didn't activate it on your 2nd playthrough

No one ever cares about what spec you are, only occasionally the methods to gain them.
