If i am not mistaken,Anderson was stepfather of the child that his ex wife had.
Still doesn't change the contradiction of "never had a family, Shepard. Never had children". Stepfather or not, if you have a wife and a kid in the equation (mutual blood or just hers), you have a family.

That just puts into question why it has been recorded in the first place, but since its there...

Very true. The way I see it, there's a few possibilities:
a) Whoever wrote the scene had a brain fart and screwed up, no one caught it until after dialogue was recorded.Dialogue was clipped because they felt the scene was too protracted, or because it didn't fit into the "I'm Proud of You" BGM.
c) They cut it because it was an intentional inconsistancy hinting towards something else, and they eventually felt that it would be too strong of a tip-off.
I didn't order those in terms of plausibility, but I'd have to admit that I think option c is the least likely.

David,
Henry and I went to Jason's graduation ceremony in San Francisco today. Such a beautiful occasion! All those gowns and bright spirits. So much potential! I know Henry would frown at the thought, but I couldn't help recalling the pomp around your appointment to the Hastings. You were the second in command, weren't you? The military always did ceremony very well. God, that was a lifetime ago.
Jason says to send his best. I'm so proud of him! "Aerospace Engineer." I don't pretend to understand what he does, but the gleam in his eyes when he is trying to explain his latest designs to me say that he has found his place in this universe. He wanted you to be there, at his ceremony, but I know duty calls. He sees you as a heroic figure off fighting grand battles in space. I hope you can make it for the holidays this year. Henry asked just the other day. I know you don't see eye to eye on much but he respects you. He respects what you do. And you know Jason is over the moon when you can take the time to review his ship designs.
Let me know about the holidays and David, please be careful.
Love,
Cynthia

Evidence, please.
This letter from LotSB heavily implies there are kids, Anderson/Cynthia's or just Cynthia's (stepchildren):Intercept 04:23//#12947 - DA - 325

"You'll also see a copy of my fee. I know this isn't much consolation right now, but just be glad you two didn't have any children. It could have been a lot worse-and a lot more expensive. When custody becomes an issue the proceedings rarely go this smoothly."
Anderson snorted. Nothing about this mess had felt "smooth" to him.
"The marriage will be officially absolved on the date indicated in the documents. I suspect that by the time you get this message your divorce will be final.
"If you have any questions please feel free to contact me, Lieutenant. And if you need me for-"
The message terminated abruptly as Anderson deleted it and dragged it into the trash.
