I had an issue that I only noticed while defending the missile batteries where after using medigel the counter wouldn't update. It only appeared to happen in that one location.

Unsubstantiated possible solution to this problem...and very mild spoilers.
Did you do the Citadel: Medical Supplies quest for Chakwas and settle it in her favor? If you did, then I believe you get an upgrade that allows for multiple uses from one medi-gel. So the counter will go down every two or three Unity uses.

Yeah it depends on if you chose Chakwas or Michel for your doctor on the Normandy. Chakwas gives you a better version of Medigel for multiple uses. Michel increases your overall capacity. Either way you still get a good run out of them.

Thanks, I did the Chakwas side quest so that would be it. Just didn't notice it happening any other time so wasn't sure about it.
