I know it's hard for people (myself included) to imagine a ME without Shepard. I just hope Bioware is still capable of making a game as good as these ME games have been.
If there's a good story, good characters, good protagonist, I don't see how the next ME would fail. The ME trilogy would become nostalgic.
It'll just take some getting used to, and it's up to Bioware to make the transition easy on us.
good story is the first hurdle ... not an easy task - the mp-studio who was responsable for omega took over
good characters is the second ... biowares writers have always been good in writing characters. the me1-3 cast is not easy to top though.
good protagonist ... now it gets tricky ,., i in example disliked hawke and i admired shepard. the next pc is not going to be a military figure. i am devided here.
after mass effect 2s main plot and mass effect 3s ending, i am no longer willing to accept a crappy plot only because i like the characters. it worked in me2, because the characters are cool and with me3, because i wanted to see the conclusion to the storyarc.
still ... the meu was shaped around shepard, the crew and the normandy. whenever i see an alliance soldier, i would think about shepard, anderon and the rest. the relays and the citadel (both icons of the meu), will always remind me of the old games. this is not going to work for me.
