Why is steam ripping people off in the UK? the standard edition is just the game with none of the free DLC, the deluxe edition is being sold with the free DLC but it costs extra

how are they allowed to get away with this?

I had a little problem with Steam and another game. Talked to the makers of the game, they were willing to give me a refund on the spot. Steam was giving me a hard time. Needless to say, from now on, I only buy from the developers of the game. No more Steam for me.

I thought steam was a Valve thing. Apparently not. However, if I bought a PC game I wouldn't buy it straight off the internet, I'd take a trip to wal-mart or gamestop.

I order a boxed version from Amazon. Call me old fashioned, but I like to be able to hold a game in my hands.

Yes physical media is usually better.

Steam is quite synonymous with charging Euro people more money for games, but as I recall the regular edition of Dragon Age doesn't come with DLC anyway no matter where you buy it.

The regular edition comes with the stone prisoner and blood dragon armor, wardens keep has to be purchased.

The problem I have is I want the boxed collecters edition, my backup plan if i couldn't get it was to purchase the digital deluxe off steam.

in the US the digital deluxe comes with everything the collecters edition does, in the UK its being sold with the same items the standard edition does

In the US steam is selling dragon age
Standard comes with
- Blood Dragon Armor
- Stone Prisoner

Deluxe comes with
- Blood Dragon Armor
- Stone Prisoner
- Collector's Edition items
- Warden's Keep
- Digital soundtrack
- Wallpapers

In the UK the standard edition comes with nothing, the deluxe edition comes with The stone prisoner and blood dragon armor

Is this endorsed by Bioware or is steam just trying to rip us off?

Its bad enough i live in a small town and can very rarley get collecters editions but to be discriminated against because im being British makes me hate steam and Bioware

I thought that the DLC was only "free" with the Deluxe edition. Could be wrong, although the Deluxe edition wouldn't be very Deluxe in that case!

As for the legality point, anyone can sell anything for any price they like (except some regulated industries of course.)

It's not Steam's fault.

Simple question, simple answer: They are allowed to get away with this if YOU let them.

lolsteam, use Direct 2 Drive. I don't even get why people would want to use Steam which prevents you from doing what you want with your game when you can use D2D with no restrictions.

No you've got it wrong, the stone prisoner and blood dragon armor is free with all standard editions of the game, wardens keep is only free with the collecters edition or deluxe edition

given those facts it definitely sounds like a ripoff and with the number of games purchased very few if any will actively complain so they have there money in the bank and really dont care if 1 or 2 complain even if they do have to wind up giving a refund (which they wont aka buyer beware) they will still be raking it in. best bet is to spread it on the internet and boycott sales. When it hits them in the pocketbook then they will pay attention. Good luck.

In that case, it is rubbish on their part.  I'd vote with your wallet if I were you mate.

thank you!! I completley forget about direct2drive, their offering everything the US steam is offering but theres no mention of the collecters edition items.

The only reason i want the collecters edition is for the exclusive items, thats all i want, the DLC can be bought but the exclusive items cant

you're old fashioned.  i, too, prefer being able to see a nice stack of my game cds and dvds, knowing that my ability to play them in the future is not tied to the reliability of my current hardware nor the solvency of the distribution company.

Those were the preorder bonuses:

Dragon Age regular:

http://store.steampo....com/app/17450/

http://www.gamestop....roduct_id=72850

Dragon age deluxe/collectors:

http://store.steampo...com/app/901037/

http://www.gamestop....roduct_id=76143

No where on both of the regular editions does it say it comes with the blood dragon armor or stone prisoner. They did, but that was for preorders.

The only difference between the Deluxe editions is that Digital ones come with Warden's Keep while physical ones do not.

In short, you are basing your information on pre-order bonuses and are not being ripped off.

If thats the case its my mistake and I stand corrected but the UK direct2drive store is selling ALL the DLC with the deluxe edition

Like I said im not too concerned about the DLC, I'll buy it all if i have to, all i want are the exclusive collecters edition items which I thought would come packaged with the digital deluxe edition.

Is there anywhere I can buy the items? the main thing I want is the collecters edition staff for my mage

Hmm, that's odd. Steam were definitely listing Blood Dragon Armour and The Stone Prisoner before.

They're not just pre-order bonuses since everywhere else is still listing them, including all the other UK digital distribution services like GamersGate, Direct2Drive and EA Store.

The DDE never came with the collector's edition items in the UK, that's just the way EA UK decided to set up the package. If you want those you'll have to buy the CE and put up with the disk check.

Unless you can get the DDE for a pound or two extra it's not worth it, the wallpapers are lousy and Warden's keep is only about an hour's badly integrated extra content.

As far as I know the 25% off EA Store voucher still works bringing the DDE down to £30 which is the deal I went for: http://www.hotukdeal...ses-at-ea-store

Thanks for the info much appreciated, you'd think in this digital age companies like EA would give everyone a fair deal with collecters items but obviously not

I bought the standard edition in Europe.  Not preorder.

It came with codes to get Blood Dragon Armor and Stone Prisoner for free.

I know there is other DLC associated with preoders and the higher grade edition w/e its called.

I have no idea why people buy non Valve games on Steam at higher prices and often with glitches and all
sorts of issues I see on forums all over the place.  I get better deals from regular online vendors.

If I find I have paid more for a game from a vendor then I dont blamce th vendor, its my fault for not
shopping around.

PC versions of games are so cheap anyways, and better supported, and look nicer.

Well the UK has been ripped off all round for special editions. The CE is lacking the metal/wood case that the rest of the world gets and has no cloth map or any of the other extras like the mug.

It was even looking uncertain whether we'd get stone prisoner at one point, but as we did we do have one of the best value normal editions.

What are the stats of final reason anyway? There are some easily available and very powerful staffs in the game already (such as the staff of the magister lord that regenerates 2 mana in combat and adds +5 spellpower).

Your a legend mate, that info, plus the discount you've given me has made my mind up, the best deal so far is the EA site, i get more ingame items than any other site and for a 25% discount i can deal with not having the CE staff i wanted.

Well, lets take a look shall we.

- Dedicated Severs you can download off of Steam, and Steam will support them.

- The ability to easily talk to friends in game, as well as invite them to games, it will do the work of setting everything up for you, no router hassle, just send the invite, and your playing together.

- No discs needed, its all saved to your account.

- Generally cheaper games, my friends who live in other countries often get screwed over by D2D, who doesn't seem to understand that other countries have different currencies, Steam more often then not allows them to buy games for a reasonable price ( ala, $50 like we pay here, or around that. )

- Achievement system for almost every game on Steam.

- A new deal on games every week, usually for 50% off, if the game you want to buy is not on sale, just wait a few weeks, and you'll usually be able to buy it for at least 25% off during a weekend sale, during holidays, this usually becomes giant 75% off sales on some games.

- Should anything happen to Steam or Valve, the TOS you sign whenever you buy a game basically says that Valve will refund you the price of all your Steam bought games, meaning should the company/service fail, you will get all the money you spent back.

- If a game stops working, due to a new OS, bugs, or just becomes unplayable for you for whatever reason, you can send in a petition to Steam Support, which they will look over, try to find if there is a way to fix the problem, and if there is not any fix available, will refund you your money should they feel that is the only way. I have several games from D2D that no longer work due to me using Win7, and that is quite literally just wasted money now, had I purchased them over Steam, I could have easily had them try to help fix my problems, and if that failed, would have most likely gotten a refund on my purchase.

So yeah....

Back on topic however, its probably Bioware, all Steam users seem to be getting screwed over with Dragon Age, DLC won't work, the editor does't work correctly, etc, its just a mess, if anything, I'd suggest looking into EA Store, or just driving to the nearest town to pick it up.

Valve does not determine what goes in the package sold on Steam, the publisher determines that. Raging against Steam is pointless.

I bought the digital deluxe edition on Steam, I got all the DLC, and the editor installs just fine if you read the instructions.

By all means, though, make stuff up about how awful Steam is, if it makes you feel better.
