So, i just finished a game of silver with some randoms, i was a level 20 Quarian Infiltrator fighting Cerberus. I had 90,000 points with a guy with 80,000 being in 2nd, at the extraction i shot a missile at two Atlas mechs right as another guy was doing the same, i didn't notice he had it out but i didn't think it mattered since we perfectly got extracted. Of course, right when we get to the lobby i get a vote to kick and guessed it was the other guy with the missile, so i left. This isn't CoD or Gears, you don't have a K/D, the objective is to survive, kill and extract (with the side missions too), if there is something i'm missing, please do explain.

it may not be CoD or Gears, but as far as some people are concerned there are guns and people to shoot them at and as a result this is a game where kill count matters

Its simple: What do you see at the end of the round? The players ranked according to their score.
So the game tells the players that having the highest score is important.

That's true, but in a game where it's better to have good people to easily complete a game, it's not smart to kick people just because they "stole" some kills.

Please, take all "my" kills if it means that we win Gold.

I'd rather have credits over kills.

Yep people still haven't realized the game tallies up everyone's score and gives EXP based on that. Some of the players in ME3 MP are walking contradictions. They don't wanna play with lower levels as if they themselves started the game already LVL20(Gives meaning to I got mine, I hope you got yours).
Yet when a high level player comes in and wreck **** they get upset about it. I personally enjoy racking up the Assist medals. I wish there was a leaderboard that tallied medal count, I'm 100% sure I'd be near the top in this category.

Not sure since exp is shared and everyone gets the same amount of credits. I'd rather have a billy bad ass join my game and nearly win it him/herself than die right before finishing an objective on wave 10 just so someone gets some of the kills.

Only thing I vaguely care about on the ranking screen post-match is the check marks for extraction (so I know who to vote off if we got partial extraction), and the medal count... I always try to get the most variance of medals... makes mixing up your playstyle really fun, plus getting 5 grabs is worth an extra 1,500 pts to everyone on the team..

Problem is Andy you said yourself that you finished top of the "scoresheet". If you're a good player you maybe find it harder to relate to what it feels like being at the bottom. If it truly is co-op then get rid of the scoreboard entirely otherwise it's human nature to make sure you're not at the bottom come end of match. This inevitably leads to the problems you described.

Hahaha maybe it was something else?

Maybe he was like "why did you make me waste a missile bro?"

Maybe it was his last missile. :)

I like when people are hell bent on taking kills.
It motivates me to destroy everything.

I completely agree with you. however, you asked why people care about kills in this game, hence my answer.

Kicking someone because he used a missile in the same time as you did isn't any better.

@OP

I admit that I do try to be at the top of the scoreboard. However, I never go after kills instead of objectives, extraction included, neither do I complain about someone killing a enemy I was about to. If this "kill-stealing" thing is to end, the scoreboard needs to be removed, as it motivates players to try and get to the top, making them forget about the objectives.

Because on Gold, you don't want people to think you suck. If someone has a higher score or is playing more decisively, teammates will take greater pains to make sure you don't get hurt. When I AM the best player on the team (not always, but usually), I want weaker teammates to watch my back so I can demolish things.

When someone is outscoring me, I take that as a cue that they know what they're doing and I escort/protect them. Score helps determine team roles.

Agreed. If it's co-op, then only the team's combined efforts count, not those made by individual team members. I've been at the bottom of the scoreboard a few times and it got me worried, but after reading this topic, it seems it means nothing.

By the way, I got a tiny question about those medals; do they only reward XP or do they reward credits too?

How the heck do you know the reason why they've kicked you is beyond me.

I have played matches which went public to get another player (or two) because friends were unavailable at the time. When the match is over, and friends are waiting to join, we kick the unknown players to make room for friends. Nothing personal, unrelated to their performance, playstyle, class, kills or whatever.

Find people who are cool (usually this forum), build a friends list, no one on this forum I've played with cares about such trivialities, I've come in first and fourth and no one cares as long as you arent a burden to the team (dying every 5 second!)

Maybe due to my age and clumsiness (only bronze matches !) I enjoy co-op just if I am able to survive to the trial; I obviously understand the reward mechanism linked to kills, but I think that it matters the squad feeling too. Just for explain it: in final stage (extraction) in a team where I was (as usual...) the weaker, the other 3 squad members in the wake of make more killings were killed by an atlas, out of extraction area; and I was able (pure luck) to smash atlas and some soldier with rocket , and save them. I found it more satisfing than searching to make more and more points. Just my opinion. Greetings from Florence.

I care about kill stealing not because of scorecharts or credits, but because it's so damn frustrating to have enemies sniped out from under my heavy melee. Also, this:

Me: "Okay, just 3 guys over here, no problem, I'll just..."
Other guy: "OH HAI LET ME HELP YOU WITH THAT -blam- -blam- -blam-"

It should not show individual scores. People forget what is most important in the match and that is completing all waves, earning credits, unlocking stuff and having fun. In my opinion it should show only one score. The teams total score with all their points together. (:
