Where's the idea for a happily-ever-after ending come from, you ask?

I am not okay with basically being told "everyone died, nothing you did mattered."

I want the Option for a Bittersweet - heroic Sacrifice Ending..
HEll I have even want the option to make a Shinji Shepard to have tragic ending.. but what I want the most is the damn OPTION to have these endings based of the premise of the series.
Hell a PS 1 era Game - Star Ocean 2 has more ending options than Mass Effect 3 and they don't even give that many choice yet you ending with possibility to have 80 different endings...
this is what I want ... not 3 endings of different color, philosophical nonsense about a Tech Singularity that is disproved 300 years prior to the start of the gor ram story.

You know, I hadn't considered this. There ARE games out there that have far more variety in endings with just ONE game.
Hrmmm...getting a little annoyed now if Bioware really thinks these endings are enough.

The thing is BioWare teases you the WHOLE 3 games with the hope that no matter how hard things are, you will live the rest of your days as a hero, retired and in the company of your love interest leaving peacefully in some small colony,
Only to have the ending (because there's only one.) screw you and all your promises.
I mean I understand this is the hardest and most hopeless war, but if you're gonna make Shepard do thousands of promises and if you make us choose to make those promises, then THE OPTION of having a happy ending must be there. OPTION, because it would be the hardest ending to get.
Just like in the Suicide Mission, we all knew people were going to die, but if we did everything to a 100% and chose the right people and did the right choices throughout, everyone could come out alive.
It should have been the same in ME3. For those of us who imported a save from the previous games, we get the best options to get this "happy" ending since it's easier to make peace and unite the whole galaxy. Then it comes to once again choosing the right squadmates, making the right decisions in ME3, collecting every war asset and having the Galactic Readiness at 100%. For those of us that did everything right, the option of a happy ending should be at least AVAILABLE, INCLUDED.
But BioWare coming up with only ONE ending???? And having that ending FULL of plot holes, inconsistencies, unexplained occurences, Deus ex Machina crap, and everyone fighting on Sol being for all intents and purposes screwed??? Ridiculous, unacceptable.
Even Final Fantasy XIII-2 has more endings.

Not to mention how you promise Tali that after we win the whole thing you'll return with her to Rannoch and build her a house by the beach.
I don't recall that line in my playthrough. Could you please post a link to a video where Shepard says that?
