I'm highly curious about how good the mage focused equipment is, since I'm still trying to decide whether my first character should be a human warrior or mage, and a lot of that depends on how cool the mage robes and whatnot look compared to a warrior's armor.  And I know, I could just play an arcane warrior and wear armor anyway, but I'd rather go with a mainly magic using mage.

I don't know. I always think there's something badass about a man wearing robes waiting in front of a walking metal behemoth of destruction. Plus, the spell armoring effects could be cooler than the warrior's wear.

I have been making the same debate. I am probably going to go with the mage, cuz it will be a bit harder than a warrior. It is always fun to have to hold back to keep from killing your companions as well, or if you are evil.... just fry them in the process of killing the bad guys.
