I was as surprised as Liara at how he behaved. I also expected Protheans to be this aloof race of endlessly wise and possibly benevolent creatures, instead of cold imperialists.

By the end of it, and with paragon interrupts / choices, Javik (for me) turned out to be much more than a mere ******. It was clear he didn't understand the universe he now inhabits, but I felt he had a real respect for Shepard by the end (he even apologised to Liara and called her by her name!).

I found his elitism and trolling of other squadmates to be hilarious.

Indeed.

He was awesome.

I love Javik, the major bright spot in a disappointing ride. Showing that some of prothean myth was a fantasy was a very good move. Of course he's going to view all these races that were little more than primitives when he was born in a different light.

I love that he basically obliterated the romantic view of Protheans that had been held up to that point. It makes me wonder what we've done that to in our own history.

Spartans! Honestly most ancient civilizations we assume to be brutal and a bunch of ****s.

But yeah, Javik being a dick is the entire point. What would you do if you came back 50,000 years from now and monkeys were running the show? You'd call them damn dirty apes.

He started out as a jerk but by the end of the game you can tell that he respects, and maybe even likes, the crew. He has a very nice arc.

I think he has call to be a ******. He's 50,000 years old, the last of his race. He's never going to change what happened, he's never going to be able to propagate his species. Can you imagine being the last human? Not one of the last, the last. There are no others. Your species is effectively dead, you got to watch it die, when you die? You're gone. Extinct. On the list with the oryx and crake and dodo and dinosaurs. Now, tell me, in that situation, would you be a nice guy?

Besides, he gets a lot better if you're playing a Paragon. There's even this really sweet Paragon Interrupt you can do on the Citadel with him (when he asks you to meet him), that shows he honestly believes that you'll beat the Reapers.

I'm pretty sure he's just saying what he thinks you want to hear; he pretty much admits that that was what he was doing after his little peptalk to Liara.

He's a person devoid of manners and respect, but that's to be expected. His entire life has been lived in the ruins of a fallen empire and in constant war with an unstoppable enemy with no way of knowing who among his friends are already plotting to betray him to the Reapers. It would have been cheap and cartoonish to make him amiable and optimistic.

Overall I found him to be unnecessary and of only limited relevance, but I found amusement in his ability and willingness to take the wind out of everyone's sails.

Actually he makes Liara semi smile after Thessia if you use the paragon interrupt. He is a really good character if your playing paragon which allows him to inspires other characters like Shepard does.

I was really excited about the idea of a Prothean squadmate but soon his personality just became unbearable.  He looked cool and had some decent attacks but the way he treated my fellow squadmates as well as his snobbish demeanor got on my nerves.

He would go on and on about how other races are primitives.  Look jackass, that was 50K years ago, things have changed and it's time to move on.

Every time he would communicate with my fellow squadmates he was always rude.  He was justified in seeking vengeance against the reapers but he should've treated me and my fellow crewmates as comrades in arms, not as annoyance who got in his way.

Next time I'll let Cerberus dissect that schmuck.

He's like a pure renegade "see how you like it" to the renegade players... imo. I find it amusing as a few mates of mine are renegade players and they cannot stand him. Which, is interesting, since it's fine for them to do it but god-damn don't you dare renegade them or their squadmates back. >_>

I don't mind that he was arrogant because that would be EXACTLY they way such an advanced race encounters a less developed race. That made sense. But I was very disappointed that he has no interesting information to offer. As the last ****ing prothean in the whole universe he has no impact on the story at all. That was just cheap. Even the prothean VIs had more impact throughout the series.

He had a bit of that demeanour like Wrex had in Mass Effect 1. "Did anyone try to neuter your race? No? Then shut the Hell up." That gruff and blunt tone always amused me.

His disposition is a lot more sterner and colder than Wrex, but still, he sometimes deliver a couple of rather amusing sarcastic verbal supositories, whenever he feels the need to rag on some of the monkeys' decendants. Kinda reminds me of a somewhat neutral and a tad less spiteful space version of Edwin Odesseiron.

He never admitted that to me. And I don't find him devoid of manners and respect at all. If he was devoid of manners and respect, he would have taken over the ship to likely do a suicide run on the Reapers or something. Besides, he thanked me in the end, which was nice. He admitted that he believed Shepard/humans could really do this like, three times before I was done.

I do agree it would have been ridiculous to make him any other way, personality wise.

I dunno, he pretty much became an inseperable member of my team, in the way that Wrex and Grunt did in the 1st and 2nd games. I loved everything that had to do with him. Just my opinion though.

I actually liked Javik. He was an interesting spin on the Protheans, since everyone in the current cycle thought them to be an amazing race and that they were the only space faring race at that time. Really provides interesting dialogue when you take him to Thessia with Liara.

You would be a bit of a ****** too if you're the last remaining member of a race that's been extinct for 50000 years.

He's actually not that bad. His encounter with the 'younger races' on the Citadel and the 'Paragon' speech he gives is actually a highlight of his story arc.

In the end, what and who did have an impact on the story? Basically no one.

I do agree I wish they had done more with him, and the fact that you have that Cipher was left out of so much of ME2 and 3 (well, left out entirely in 2, as far as I know).

I love Javik. He is now one of my favorite characters. The games has the other races talking bad about humans being "back woods" in a lot of ways. It is really funny to see someone speak about the other races. I think it is funny that they created a character that comments on how "back woods" the other races used to be. Also his comment about Cerebus stating that no other enemies will be allowed in this war. It a cool line. I don't find him to be elitist.

The thing you gotta remember with Javik is he spent those last 50,000 years in stasis. His last memory was being told by the Victory VI there was no hope to save the Prothean race and that his only purpose from that point on was to exist into the next cycle to help them defeat the Reapers, to get vengeance for his people. And for him, that was yesterday.

I think he earned the right to be a little bit of a ******.

He may be a jerk but honestly I'm fine with certain characters being jerks. After all he was such a product of his environment that I think it's reasonable for him to be a jerk. Plus in my game [I assume others?] he seemed to either mellow or understand there may be other ways of doing things.

I'm perfectly OK with the character. Even more than that I like it as I consider it another one of BW's bold choices that paid off. Granted perhaps not all of the bold choices paid off but I'm really good with Javik.

Javik was fantastic in my opinion. Not a huge fan of his personality, but I can certainly see where he was coming from. Like the other renegade NPCs, Paragon Shep can have a pretty big positive influence on Javik. I really liked the final talk with him on Earth.

Javik is fantastic. Apart from an interesting personality, he's a complete subversion of the "benevolent precursor" trope. He thwarts all expectations people had about the Protheans. It's hilarious.

Bringing him along to Thessia is a must.

That he's also one of the most resilient and dangerous team members makes him even more awesome.
