I have a horrible feeling that Bioware knew about the ending and told EA about them wanting to maybe change it and EA/Microsoft said no, keep it so they can release DLC to fix it so they get more money :/

Goes to show how disappointing the current ending is that so many are willing to come up with or put stock in theories such as this.

That said I don't blame them. I think everyone harbours some hope that the "real" ending is still out there.

A free DLC for it is the only way BioWare have left to really reconnect with their fanbase. However its probably about as likely as the US military introducing a new chocolate tank.

Bioware need their own Commander Shepard to defeat the rEApers.

I find it more likely that they might have said "our testers say the ending doesn't work, it's too grim and confusing, we need to change it", and EA just went "we're releasing on the March 6th regardless, whatever you do, it must be before then".

Then BioWare basically said "****, we can't make any substantial changes before the RTM if we want to make that, what can we do?", "How about we put in a scene with the Normandy crew surviving, that'll take the edge off", "Well, it's not great, but it's all we have time for. Let's do it."

Explains why the Normandy scene wasn't in the leaked script, at least.

I honestly don't think EA or Bioware would make the enormous financial mistake of using this instance to try and sell an ending to the consumer. Its already receiving too much mainstream attention for that to work. I really believe that if the complete ending exists, it will be distributed as free DLC. Any attempts at using this as a wholesale moneymaking scheme will be reserved for future titles.

Pretty much this. I can't imagine any single tester/test group being satisfied with this bare bones ending.

yeah, again, I'm legitimately bewildered by the question of where they got their testers. If the population they picked from was anything close to average, around 80% or higher would have strongly condemned it.

What if this entire Ending scandal has been carefully orchestrated from the very beginning? A purposefully bad ending was chosen to provoke extreme resentment and shock among the fanbase, while also maintaining a virtual blackout on complaints and requests, all while the real ending was being planned to be released as free DLC?

I'm not saying it was aliens... but it was aliens. Or Illuminati. Either way works.

I've had a worse thought. What if they provide 'more closure' and 'fill in the gaps' by creating a facebook page and have someone post crap for a few days. /discuss

An article on Forbes today touched on this:

"I speculated that companies like EA are pushing the buttons of gamers on purpose, to see what they will and won’t tolerate. And by tolerate, of course, I don’t mean rant about on forums. I mean what they will pay for."
