Wow, I guess the word 'balance' means nothing to most of you. Anyway, the Promotion feature is entirely optional. No one is forcing you do do it, plus it gives you the chance to reset your character for free (as opposed to having to use a respec pack). I don't see the problem with the current system. If you cannot get your character back to silver or gold levels then just don't do it. All the hand-holding these days with gamers is getting really annoying.

How is asking for the feature to be improved a bad thing?

Personally I think extra customisable feature should have been unlocked via promoting rather than random luck, or at least be given a spectre pack or something.

Take CoD for example resetting rank gives you an extra custom class slot and other features.

Asking for things is not bad but seriously, the hand-holding has to stop.  If you want more credits then just take that level 20 to a Gold match and complete wave 10's objective.  There, now you have enough credits for a Spectre pack.  Promoting is entirely optional, if you do not think that the benefits are worth it then simply do not do it.

As for the random luck issue, this is another matter entirely.  If you want to argue for a fixed item store or more specialized packs, such as a character pack,  then I'm all for it.  The issue with the unlock system has nothing to do with the promotion feature however, nor should it.

Also, we should get 20k credits each time we log in to the game. Let's go, Bioware, we need some incentive here. I mean, come on, we're entitled.

If you don't feel you have enough reason to use the "promote" option to reset your character, -don't-! It fulfills the purpose it has already, and doesn't need to give you anything else than it already does.

You're missing the point. There's no incentive to promote once you're satisfied with your character's build. N7 levels are meaningless. Adding an incentive such as credits or a promotion pack will add longevity to the game which is favourable for both the players and EA/Bioware.

It only takes a few times of farming geth gold before it becomes utterly no challenge and boring. If promoting was an alternative route for some extra credits (say 40k) it gives players more choice which is a good thing.

At the very least be able to unlock a new customization option for a Charachter.

I really have no incentive to promote my charachters because I don't care about N7 rating.

I heard it's glitchy. I was playing with someone like 3 days ago that said when he promoted one of his guys, all his items and weapons got reset as well. For plus 75 war assets and a completely useless plus 10 N7 rating, I REALLY don't see the point.

N7 rating is your "no life status" and it's easy to get all the war assets you need in game as it is, unless they release some kind of new ending DLC but if that made it so you had to play hours and hours of MP... oh boy... expect a crapstorm from the babies who still won't even TRY the mp.

There are legitimate reasons why someone wouldn't play the MP.
-Terrible internet access.
-Terrible at playing the game(ie, they went through the SP in casual and found that hard)
-Didn't enjoy the demo, no desire to try the MP now.

Having said that, I'm probably playing until I have enough assests to avoid doing most of the non-reputation giving sidequests.

how bout:

1st promotion, 1 extra skill point at lvl one.
2nd promotion, 2 extra skill points at lvl one.
3rd-9th, repeat and ends with a final,
10th promotion, 10 extra skill points at lvl one.

which means each character will max out at 10 promotions. the skill points that i give are just examples tho. but more of less eh?

not only if gives player incentive to reset character, but greatly enhances replayability. think about it, bioware, you do want your players to keep playing your multiplayer mode right? at it stands i give it few months before people get bored and have all lvl 20 characters maxed.

I agree. The promote thing is total garbage.. All I wanted was to reset my spec so I could change it around and it made me a lvl 1 again. I'm a very sad panda today :(

This. Everybody seems to forget multiplayer is meant to support single player, not be it's own standalone game with single player being an afterthought.. I'm looking at all the Call of Doody fans on this one.

Simply put, if you don't want to get the extra single player assets, then don't promote! But you keep getting class/race cards in the packs? YOUR FAULT FOR NOT PROMOTING AND TAKING ADVANTAGE OF FREE EXPERIENCE.

And for those that haven't heard, next weekend's event is going to involve promoting. So I think it's safe to say your crying get somewhere, just not the permanent result the Call of Doody and Halo fans wanted.

I dont get the point of promoting either. Unless I can use the player in SP, I don't see me doing it again.

You get +75 readiness points or whatever.

I think if you promote you should be able to unlock/upgrade an item/class of your choice.

Hell, wouldn't it make sense to just upgrade your character's customization? You keep promoting him and then you keep getting to customize more and more? Heck, ANYTHING that actually offers ANY benefit in Multiplayer. Heaven forbid we doing anything beyond grinding credits.

Oh my god, this, instead of getting infinite human characters for classes I've already maxed out appearance for. Thanks a bunch, Veteran packs, for only giving me blues and characters.

I'll go ahead and add my support to the idea that there should be a better reason to promote. The extra war assets are kinda pointless.

Can you elaborate?  Will we get an extra 10 added to our N7 rating or something stupid like that?

Maybe they will take the suggestion of giving us a tangible reward that us 'casual' players will think is worthwhile.  +75 assets, +10 e-peen number, and a reset to level 1 doesn't really do much for me as a 'reward' for getting to level 20.

EDIT: maybe they are realizing that only a very small percentage of level 20 characters are being promoted and that is the driver for this MP event you speak of?

Actually a free Spectre pack for promoting a level 20 seems more than reasonable, even a bit one sided considering how many points were likely spent getting just that one character to twenty.

Promoting peeps is Bioware's solution to add longevity to multiplayer. If people are no longer leveling it will eventually cause people to stop playing coop. Bioware doesn't want that. The only perk to promoting your classes right now in my opinion is that it keeps your mind off your bad luck withe supply packs. Bioware should give us a Spectre pack per promotion. It would be something people looked forward to instead of people wondering if they should even bother to do it.

We don't know the details about next weekend's operation, except that it will involve promotions.

Personally, I'd go with the levelling up a weapon/mod/equipment slot (like extra missiles or medi-gels), but at worst I'd settle for more customisation options.

I think there needs to be some incentive to promote. Not because I want more stuff, but because the long term viability of a multiplayer mode depends on people still playing at lower levels, on lower difficulties. If most people stop promoting, the population playing bronze will dwindle, and the game will become much less appealing to new players. Older players quit, having grown bored of grinding out gold or silver for credits, and with no new players to take their place, the MP community, and thus the MP itself, ceases to exist in any significant way.

New content alone cannot sustain MP modes. They need new players.

You should get not only +75 war assets, but more war assets depending on your characters unlocked.
A free Spectre pack with every promotion.
And 1% to add to a permanent galatic readiness level.

On top of all of that, if you promote ten characters, give an additonal free asset of like "The N7 Special Forces" itself in general, -- the entire force as a war asset. Just my opinion.

But you get your MP characters as War assets in the single player, which also turns out to be completely useless! ..wait...i thought i was supposed to be defending promotion...god dammit.
