Are there people here who seriously think Bioware deliberately sabotaged their own product?

I have been hearing a lot of speculation from fans that the reason why the ending is crap is because Bioware wants to sell the real ending as DLC.

Even though that might make sense from a fiscal point of view just think about how risky that is.

The game hasn't even been released in all countries yet and already there is an overwhelmingly negative backlash from fans, meta-bombs, and online polls showing contempt.
If Bioware truly is doing as some of you claim then they have put their very brand name in peril by doing so and have threatened the financial success of the Mass Effect franchise.

I really think what is happening is that people are grieving over what is no doubt a terrible terrible ending to a once beloved franchise and are so hurt that they will believe anything.

Face it guys, this is the end and there is never going to be another end.  Mass Effect deserved better than this but there is nothing we can do about it now.

I doubt they intentionally did that. That is company suicide. You might be able to pull it off once as an error, but you will ultimately lose fans and make them more cautious with future purchases.

The fact is they tried to do something creative and special for the ending (be it the god child or the dreaming options) and failed horribly.

No. But I think there's a very real possibility that BioWare had to rush out a game that might not have been completely finished (perhaps EA's fault, not sure) and there's going to be an ending expansion.

No. I just think... No I really cannot explain how a great studio like Bioware could possibly deliver an ending like this.

yeah, its silly wishful thinking and denial.

they didn't think the ending was bad. probably because the writers didn't peer review it well enough.thats the easiest explaination, they wrote the ending, it didnt seem bad to them and they never really had anyone else look closely at it to point out how stupid it was.

Deliberately? No

They were trying to be clever and it back fired on them.

That would be given them to much credit. And would also be really stupid.

The ending is the ending it's not going to change at all.

Sooner people realize this the better.

Now they might add another option, but the end will still be the same.

I mean let's face it they still have a ton of colors to choose to use.

It's typically not good business sense to admit you're wrong. Bioware will stand by their ending because they don't want to admit they're screw ups.

The best we can hope for is that Bioware will at least expand upon the ending in a future DLC. Bioware is a business though, not a charity. If we're to have any hope of that then we have to show that we'd be willing to pay for it, that is the only way our voices matter.

No way are they going to completely re-write the ending though.

I'm open for the possibility that they've made the game the way it is to release a DLC to bring the story onwards.
But I doubt they sat down on a meeting and said " Let's make more or less identical endings if less quality then the rest of the game and render the choices the players done in the game as meaningless just to ****** them off"

Like I said before... All these hallucination and indoctrination theories are just people who are in denial of the real endings. The endings were that bad.

I guess I still hold onto the Bioware that made me fall in love with Bastilla, then rip her away. :\\

Also, Lez Juhani when that was a BIG controversy.

Bioware has always pushed the limits, in every game, they look for new ways to make money, and because of their fan base they are allowed to experiment.

The re-posted maps of DA2 was just a little experiment to see how much they can get away with, which is a "whole f***ing bunch" so, I don't think it's too hard to see how Bioware (who has sold somewhere like 800,000 copies of ME3) to go, "I wonder what happens if we stretch the story line further, forcing people to dwell on it before we give them a true ending." I think it's a ballsy move.

Of course, ever since ME3 ending, I haven't been sleeping, I've been sullen and moody, and I got put back on anti-depressants today. So... You know, grain of salt.

If they did, it was the biggest PR mistake they could have made with their customers.

if you want your voice heard louder got to my blog which I have a link too in my Sig , click on my ME3 review and click on the links to my polls.

1. would you Boycott Bioware if they don't fix the endings
2. do you believe Multiplayer should have no impact on the single player campaign
3. Facebook Campaign demand better endings for ME3

Sabotaging their own product deliberately? No, I don't think so.

Going all artsy and dark and gloomy on us because they think it's cool? Yep. Very likely.

Will they release a DLC for the ending, paid or free? Let's wait and see.

I'm also of the opinion that the writing staff was rushed to meet a deadline.

I played the rest of the game and it was excellently written. It's obvious the people behind Mass Effect 3 are talented but even talented people can only accomplish so much when resources are thin and time is short.

My paranoid side has suspected this (and it's a pretty damn paranoid paranoid side), but rationally, it would be corporate suicide for them to do so and expect fans to happily buy DLC. If they do that, it would be absolutely unforgivable and no one would ever trust them again.

That said, if this was an attempt to cleverly prevent the staggered release from resulting in massive spoiler issue, and they have been planning to release the ending DLC for free, then it's partially forgivable. It was ill-conceived and poorly executed, but not malicious in this case, which means that only their competence is in question, not their integrity.

No. Theoretically, if they did, they would be like the Reapers in the gaming industry.

Right now I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone. I'm still in utter disbelief this is even the case, that Bioware could put out an ending like this to what is otherwise the most epic, amazing story ever.

We'll find out won't we?

They could just take it and run with it.

Why is it bad business to say you screwed up though? IT's obvious you did, saying you didn't would be WORSE for business.

They have said in various interviews and even most recently on the @masseffect Twitter feed, that this is not the last game.

@wildcard95: "@MassEffect is this the last mass effect game ? people said that this is the last game just want to confirm."

@masseffect: "@xwildcard95 We have said nothing to that extent!"

Hmmmm. I cant see how they expect people to buy more games/content, with everyone so up in arms with the one we currently have. More to come, I suspect!
