You hear the hum everywhere (on the ship) according to many many post if you listen close enough.

So maybe those indoctrination theories really do have credence. Though still doesn't explain lack of indoctrination detected on Thessia.

I'm not sayign the indoctrination theory is true but IF it is the VI might not have picked up on it because it wasn't severe enough yet to actually effect anyone.

When does he that? I don't recall.

I don't recall hearing those lines either, might just be because I didn't notice.

The only time I visted James was right before the attack on earth...ha.

Well, it's a ship after all, of course there are constant noises (which are referenced by Tali and Chakwas in the previous games).
So it doesn't have to mean anything. But it very well could and I certainly hope it does (there's that EIP again...).

Just Vega. People are making it out to be more than it is.

The Reaper IFF is just software on the Normandy's computer. Only reaper hardware carries the indoctrination signal.

Reaper hardware like EDI?

I can vouch for OP cause I do remember being a bit creeped out when I heard James say that. But I dunno what the connection between being indocrinated and humming is and don't think another squaddie ever mentioned it.

I heard Vega say that and I assumed that I would be dealing with him later about it...

It can be engines only... I hope indoctrination though ;)

Wait...what if EDI is a tool of the Reapers...slowly indoctrinating the best the galaxy has to offer....

By far the simplest explanation is that it is simply ship system noise that you can hear in different parts of the ship.

Trying to fit that into the indoctrination theory just smacks of desperation (however justified...) to me.

I swear that is said somewhere..

No, EDI herself was constructed with parts of Sovreign.

It was funny to hear that EDI was that VI from Luna Shepard stopped in ME1.

Everyone keeps saying that Vega saying it adds to theory.

I took Vega with me almost everywhere, I used all companions each once, I talked to them constantly, and the humming line never fired for me. If it was going to be used like that for BioWare, wouldn't it have made more sense to put it somewhere that would ensure that we'd hear it?

It's the humming of the engine not the from indoctrination. Indoctrination takes prominently clear effect when Shep got blasted by Harbringer before getting on the pillar.

EDI was made with the program designed partly from Sovereign and program in a very insignificant amount. Not enough for indoctrination.

Vega only heard it and so as everyone else when EDI is trying to get into the robotic body.

There's a lot of humming inside the normandy, so most of the crew should have gotten used to it by now...

but for james to point it out? definitely suspicious.. :0

Edit: Yes, james pointed the "humming" thing in my game

It's when you talk to him on the ship and he has nothing more to say, he wil lrandomly say it.  And I dont think they wanted it to be obvious TBQH.

You state that matter-of-factly like you're privy to information we are not, but you aren't...

It does seem odd for BioWare to specifically write that line it.  Vega is a character who lives in space and on ships.  For the writers to have him specifically call it out as weird does seem a little strange.

I figured it was just the engine noise, which was kind of humming a bit loudly down there.

I heard that from Vega too and spent about 20 minutes checking the Shuttle Bay. Got me very worried ;p

some of this is ridiculous, of course it isnt the engines, do you think bioware are dropping a discreet hint to the fans that the normandy is operated by engines. the same happened with kaidan on the citadel next to the relay model/conduit, and that turned out to mean something.

it is likely that either he is indoctrinated or something is bugged in the ship, theyres no indication of it in the story right enough, but the dialogue is there, who knows, cerberus can hide numerous space stations from the alliance, who's to say that they can't bug the normandy.

That was the TIM on his base. Video journals where you found EDI AI was from Lunar Base part 1.

Also you noticed other races always stated that things did not smell right.

EDI herself is part Sovereign IIRC.  It's said during the Cerberus base mission.  She's built from part the VI on Luna that you kill in Mass Effect 1, and part Sovereign.

And if that's the case, it's crap writing, because if you're going to set something up as 'proof', you have to set it up where people can find it later.

It would have made more sense in a cut scene where Random Companion A mentions something about humming as, say, idle chatter or as an aside before Random S--T Happens and we forget about it until the end. Putting it where it's very easy to overlook doesn't make it a clue or hint for later.

Put it like this: It's like having Thane die without him ever mentioning Kepral's in MEffect2. Not everyone is going to talk to him and then suddenly he has some terminal disease. Instead, it's mentioned when you meet him so you know. You might forget later on, but the information is there for everyone.

He said that to me, too. Several times. I freaked out the first time he mentioned it. The exact line is: "Do you hear that humming? Or is that just me?"

It's very suspicious that BioWare would go out of their way to put this line in the game.
