From what I saw playing through the game once, it seemed that I was either wearing light armor or massive armor, nothing in between.  What are the benefits of using medium or heavy armor?

Strength requirements are lower on the lighter armors, so once you get up to 38-42 strength there's no need to have anything less than Massive for a warrior. Wade's Heavy Dragonscale has much less fatigue than the Dragonbone though, might be better for a Berserker or Arcane Warrior, but I prefer to have more armor.

Wade's Superior Drakescale medium armor is pretty good. I equipped Leliana with it.

I'm playing a dwarf with only gauntlets and boots, it works really well so far. Enemies tend to ignore him until it's too late.

Sword and Shield builds generally only go Heavy + Shield, for lack of attribute points.

My melee rogues are always in medium, my dps wars are always in medium/heavy, I get the least use out of light if anything.

Why?  There's what, a 4 point difference between heavy and massive armor?  The only attributes a tank really needs are enough strength for massive armor, enough willpower to use a couple abilities, a bit of con, and then dexterity.  More than enough points.

As for the other armors... Wade's Drakescale is really good, yeah.  My rogue wore it on my first playthrough... if you're getting 32 str for good swords you may as well get 34 for the armor.  I think the reason people typically only wear light or massive is the huge gap from light to medium armor, and the very small increments between medium, heavy, and massive.  It's 14 points between light and medium, and then only 8 points to go from medium to massive.

Longsword rogues can use medium. Heavy armor get heavy use with early-mid game warriors who increase something other than strength a lot.

That's the willpower problem that plagues the "OMG, 2h sucks!" threads.
Your tank probably wants more than 'a bit' of Con, and the armor/fatigue tradeoff isn't really worth it given all the defensive talents a Shield build gets.

Edit: Mind you, it's not a lot of points, but there's also no real point in going to Massive, especially since somebody's gotta use the good Heavy. :P
