In my headcanon leading up to ME3 I wondered if the origin of the Reapers stemmed from one of two things:

  • Either the Reapers, at the height of their organic civilization collectively decided that the only place to go up from there would be to synthesize themselves with synthetics and that the cycles were used as a means of reproduction
  • Or that the Cycles are the result of faulty AI rationalization. The only way to protect organics from the danger of synthetics is to ensure that they never reach a point where they come into conflict with AI's they develop. Or something.
But hey, since I'm obviously wrong, I wouldn't have minded these endings.

Would have been best to forget about the cycle completely and let the space god tells you one more time reapers are incomprehensible.

It's been built up 2 games in a row. Donno why they have to ruin it in game no.3

Yes, I'll block out the part where the LI is light years away, and replace it with him leading a search party to find his shep in the rubble clinging to life. Whew, just what I needed!

Dear god...The OP's ending is pure win.

Why would they leave all this awesomeness to the ending without saying anything?!
So this means we may somehow get these endings.....

That's an awesome ending.

Would it have been that hard to do that? I mean, really. There's something for everyone.

Edit: I'm just going to pretend it ended this way. It's a bad thing there isn't any easy editor to do this for the PC....

This fan-fic is infinitely better than the actual ending. The Reaper motivation actually makes sense, and Harbinger isn't reduced to a cameo.

How can everything go so wrong?

Even if it's "just fan-fiction", it's still better anyway, infinitely so, then what we currently have.

Prob fan fic. But I don't get how all the races could survive on earth. No way that was an actual ending. For starters, earth doesn't have the food/supplies that all races can use to survie. Plus earth is already heavily populated and almost destroyed after the attacks.

It just seems really far fetched. But other then that, better than what we got.

Here's a question, If EA is to blame (which seems likely) Why would they do this? Seriously Who at EA thought doing a last minute change like this to one of the most important parts of the most anticipated game of the year would be a good idea.

Deadlines, fiscal pressure.  Due to the way the system works in the united states, many companies (EA included) believe that the best way to keep their money is to keep in 'involved' in projects so they can write it off as development costs instead of paying taxes fully on it. I won't go any further into the concept except to say that Apple seems to do quite well by ignoring this particular theory and keeping a huge chunk of cash on hand.

For this to work, there has to be a constant and planned turnover of funds, at a specific rate, so that no funds are left 'hanging' for any particular amount of time.  Which means the delay of even a week can be problematic as other sections of a company are unfunded, leading the company to borrow money to begin a process with the understanding the funds will be there.  A second delay then becomes unteniable, as funds must be paid to the bank immediately.

This is how bad gaming decisions happen.

True or not, it wouldn't have been much harder to implement and it is objectively better in terms of game desgin and writing.

Bioware has something up their sleeve in the form of additional content in the future, no doubt a business decision by EA to milk as much money out of the final installment of a cash cow franchise.

If they gave up on their ending for their epic trilogy only because of ''well let add kinect to it ! '' and more of that nonsense ... then there is no hope for Bioware in the future.

In every possible way, these endings can be open ''in mind'' but not in a way that will sell DLCs....which I assume EA was hoping for.

That is why I am afraid for the future games being butchered just because publishers MAY release a DLC and they don't want a definite ending because of it. That means I won't be buying many of those games...
