Gianna had a direct link with the Dark Energy plot - she was investigating it.
Manuel is dead - though his part was cut from the Firewalker expansion.
I was hoping Shiala and Zhu's Hope colony would show up as Thorians. Whoops for leaving them alive.

I didn't hear about Manuel... :-/

And I still think that if they couldn't put Kal into the game because of VA issues or whatever, then they should have let him live. Or at least have left his fate ambiguous.

If we're supporting minor characters who got threw under the bus, can the rachni queen get a little of the love? As she deserved a better fate than being killed or turned in a techno-abomination after watching her species be regenocided.
I hear ya on that one. Determining the fate of the Rachni was theoretically one of the most critical choices of Mass Effect 1. Supposedly for an entire species to live or die based on Shepard's call... well ... only to the queen in such a simple form with no following view of 'normal' rachni after that... sigh...

Umm why is Bailey on the list? He's one of the most visible NPCs in the game.
I loved Emily Wong's twitter death to be fair. Sat there that day F5'ing till my fingers bled.

U sure, it suuuuure looks reeaaaallly close....
Apparently, Bailey warrants LI for some people,
I heard her death was cool, but it's kind of a lame way to wrap it up if people aren't on twitter. I can understand things like comics / novels, but there isn't really a whole lot of substance for twitter to build a story around it. It's more like marketting with a story shell.

As for the off-screen deaths, yes, especially Kal'Reegar. The finest Quarian marine there ever was! Rana Thanoptis dying of indoctrination was a shock, but maybe it was a sly detail to give credence to the indoctrination ending speculation.
I felt sad for Bailey, to be denied the chance to see his kids after so long. And many others who never made it into ME 3. It's disappointing, but such is the brutal calculus of casting and voicing characters. Are they worth the investment?

Like with Bailey, it was brutal to see two or three dialogue sections about Anderson and Kahlee Sanders even get that much attention only for Anderson to get the raw end of the deal. :-/

Anyway at least Commander Bailey is back. I loved that guy in ME2. He looks like older version of my main Shep.

Would have liked it to hurt my Asari assets though.

I was really hoping to see Parasini on ME3. Prior to launch I heard she won't be in game but as IMDB showed her in voice cast I was clinging that hope.
Her voice actress is still in the credits.
That's why I think she's the one in the citadel eloping with an asari.
When did people get the Rana Thanoptis email?

Also I would lhave liked chars from Shep's background to show up... or at least have some importance on smaller parts of the story?

Can't be sure but it was before Kaidan date scene so I am guessing around Genophage and Citadel coup.

Hmm, either I skimmed one too many emails, or I didn't get it. I'm pretty sure I let her live on both encounters. That timing would make sense based on her latest involvement being Tuchanka....
I updated the first post and grouped characters by type of interest.
I know that BW can close out these characters properly... Helena Blake & Fist (i felt) were good examples of this. There was interaction with no indication of having any future relevance to the plot, provided that they survived to begin with. Gianna & Shiala, along with others, left things too open to get the same write off treatment.

Yeah, I'm seeing they've killed far more characters off screen than they should have. I find that to be terrible story telling. Some of these characters were key parts of plots, and yet instead of finding a way, outside mediums are used for canon conclusions. I'd rather see stuff retcon'ed or have a substitute voice actor than have characters see such a weak ending.
Which NPC was a key part to the plot that wasn't in game? Shiala can be dead same as Parasini. Reegar as well. Sha'ira isn't important to the plot.
Loosely speaking, I mean if they could be interacted with in a quest or as part of a main quest, they were higher up on the list. Characters that contribute more meaning than Rebecca & Michael arguing over their baby...
Parasini can't be killed, that I've ever seen.
Sha'ira has two quests and romance scene stem from her character which is more significant that the dude trying to get his refund w/out proof of purchase.
You have to be savvy to kill Parasini if I recall correctly. You help her and then warn the old bean that he's about to be arrested. She walks in, he's expecting her and has a gun, they both duel to the death. Least that's my understanding of how to trigger it.

Really? I never knew that. After a boatload of ME1 playthroughs, I didn't even realize until recently it was possible to get the garage pass from Anoleis since Parasini is always in the foreground. Even then it required helping Opold which I didn't do frequently either.
Either way, if characters like Garrus & Tali (albeit more popular) can go from being killed to retaining a love interest, there's no reason why a simple cameo character can't at least pop up and be like "Sup, Shepard? Thanks for savin' my skin"

I don't give up on requests easily. Despite many of BSN's hangups, the fact the moderators actually make an attempt to corral things, and that there is evidence that BioWare does listen in some regards. I don't want to see Mass Effect end with a whimper, there may yet be hope.
