The prevailing opinion seems to be that he's a pretty mediocre-average character, but I really liked him. It did bother me that not everyone you met is like OMGWTFPROTHEAN, but that would have been really difficult to do. What are your guys' thoughts?

Hes mean.

I think living under a Prothean empire would be much much worse than reapers coming and zapping everybody with their "laz0r b33mz!"

You mean as a squadmember or a character?

He's a bit of a douche, but seems nice once you get to know him.

I LOVE his design. Especially how they incorprate elements of other races into him, like the back of asari heads or the lower face of a salarian.

I should have brought him with me on the Asari homeworld, though Garrus had funny comments. I will next time.

As a character? He's a jerk. But he also has some of the best lines in the game along with having a lot of insight as far as the Protheans and how they affected the current cycle of species (especially if you brought him with you to Thessia).

I don't really like him as a squad mate though.

As a character. I've heard people say he's boring, but I kind of love that he's a huge douche. No one else in the series is really a douche to you. Either they regard you as a huge threat or they worship the ground you walk on. The fact that Javik is so apathetic was really interesting to me.

His quotes were amazing. "They use to eat flies."

Other than that, he really struck me as Shepard. The Shepard that didn't succeed. Every bitter line from him made me think "that may be what Shepard would say if they lost and then got sent to the future".

Huh. I'd never really considered that. That's really interesting. Rings especially true in that one of the themes of the game is repetition in the cycles. Every cycle has a TIM, a Saren, a Shepard.

I liked him a lot. He was obviously an ****, but it was because of his experiences and how those experiences shaped him as a soldier. He reminded me a bit of Sten from Dragon Age: Origins in a way. He obviously knows that there may be other ways of living outside of his culture's ideology. He feels its inefficient, however something about it intrigues him. Like, "If the reapers weren't around, what would I be like? If I we weren't in a constant state of war would I like _____?"

He's Shepard from 50,000ish years ago. His design was pretty amazing. I also love his ornery comments about Salarians.

"They used to lick their eyeballs."

Hahahahahaa. Sounds like the Protheans expected humans to be on the Council, not Salarians :P

Most people you encounter don't know what a Prothean actually looks like. Some of the people who do know have difficulty believing that Javik is, in fact, an actual Prothean, and seek alternate explanations. Remember the conversations with Wrex and Kirrahe on Sur'Kesh?

He was great, I plan to do a play through using him in my squad the whole time to get to hear his comments.

I like Javik. Sure he is a maverick and a bit of a dick, but I don't pick.

I didn't take him to Sur'Kesh, but maybe i'll have to do that if I ever play through a second time.

-Why have you not thrown the legion machine out of the airlock yet commander? There is still time.

-Your joker pilot insisted I call myself prothy the prothean. I informed him of my desire to throw him out of the airlock.

Paraphrasing, but two of the funniest lines in the game.

It was a real eye-opener. The way the Protheans were referred to in ME1 and 2, I always imagined them as this benevolent father-figure species that looked out for everyone else. In reality, they were the big bullies of the Milky Way during their time. Everyone put them up on a pedestal and romanticized them because they were so advanced and left so much technology for us.

Also, he would frustrating when he would try to criticize my tactics.

"In my time, when someone abandoned their post, we buried them up to their heads and let the birds pick their eyeball out of their sockets."

"Don't trust the synthetics."

"Do this. Do that."

I just wanted to tell him, "Yeah, Javik. How'd that work out for you. Didn't your species get wiped out or something."

But I didn't. Mainly because the game didn't let me, or he probably would have used Dark Channel on my Shepard.

Interesting source of information, not so interesting a character.

I took him with my on the Rachni mission, and found it interesting that he talks about the Protheans arming the Rachni during his cycle and their fighting the reapers then too. Which then didn't make much sense as to why they weren't completely eradicated along with the Prothean empire. Javik does say that they were not as intelligent then, but if the Protheans armed the Rachni and fought against the Reapers I would think that would add the Rachni to the list of races to eradicate during the last cycle.

Meh.

Plus without the protheans our cycle would have been ****ed as well. :P If they'd had advance warning like we had they might have succeeded.

Javik fit in perfectly with my realist Shepard. I really liked having him around.
