I hope people are going to contact ea on monday and tell them that the datapad is not working. I hope they will fix it this week!! The data pad has not been working for me since 7/5/12.

Sooo, just wondering... If I play now while the Datapad is down, will I still get the same set of mail from characters as I would normally have while playing the game? I like getting mail, and if playing now would mean not getting any then I'll reluctantly set the game aside until the Datapad is fixed.

Am disappointed this is still down. Its the only way I keep my readiness up so that I can go back to the game whenever I like with 100% readiness. 
I've just checked and it's now at about 87% because I've not been able to connect.

just been looking for a fix for the Galaxy at War not connecting when I found this thread.
Just wanted to add I'm also in the same boat
Spent ages trying to get it to work in the last 6-7 days such as different wifi networks, on different mobile networks, deleted the app and redownloaded with no change.
At least I know its being worked on thanks to Diegoa01!
