Canon Romance

When I first started the series, I leaned more towards Ashley being the canon romance of the series. However, after watching several videos on every possible romance, I'm more inclined to think that Liara might be more of prime candidate. It certainly does make sense; human and an alien together forming a bond that overcomes differences in species. That's not to say this point could be argued for Garrus' or Tali's case, and while they are two of my favorite characters, I don't feel like they're the "main romance".
So? What do the rest of you think?

I noticed that too. Liara always seemed to want to be more than just friends even if you're already spoken for.
Yeah, some say Liara ninja-manced you in the original ME, while I wouldn't use this term, I agree.
Also, Liara's my favorite character so I won't complain at all....

Liara's obviously Bioware's favourite romance and will likely be the LI in ME movies

It just seems like more effort is put into her romance than the others. From her sex scene in ME1, her desperate attempt to help Shepard by handing his body over to Cerberus in ME2, and her entire relationship with Shepard in ME3. Kinda makes me wish Garrus or Tali recieved this much attention.

Ninjamancing me in ME1 and ME3. Even though I clearly made my interest in Kaidan clear, and she even referenced it more than once. That's what I get for talking to her first, I suppose.

Yeah ...I dunno why maybe it the captain kirk angle but I felt The Ash romance did feel right to the story despite the "sabotage" and if you play it right Liara can be quite platonic but a good friend. I dont care I am just glad Ash is back, its one of the high points in ME3

I agree. It cannot be said, however, that BioWare didn't put any effort on other romances (Jacob and, maybe, Thane excluded) especially the VS and Garrus. Never saw Tali's so I can't comment.

Jacob was pointless from the start. Thane was just tragic, but anyone who romanced him and knew of his disease had to be expecting something like this.

Tali and Garrus are great romances, but since they appeared as possibilities in ME2, I cannot help but think they weren't the original intention.

You realize that Liara is open to FemShep too, right?robtheguru wrote...
If you romanced anyone other than Liara your brain needs calibrations (unless you played as Femshep)

Whether Thane's romance was good or not is subjective, being a tragedy, like you said. Jacob's however, was the worst romance in all ME games, and the worst I ever saw.

It was probably to broaden relationships between humans and aliens. Next Mass Effect(if there is one) should let us romance a krogan or a salarian...or a hanar...tentacles...

Agreed. I just wish Thane's romance was a bit more...heartfelt let's call it. I honestly expected more of a heartbroken reaction from FemShep or a final "I love you" from Thane.

Liara feels like the closest thing a canon LI. I keep hearing the term 'ninjamanced' when talking about ME1, but I didn't get ninjamanced at all. Probably because you have to be paragon/nice for that to happen. I was renegade with her from the start and eventually she blatantly asked my Shep if she had feelings for her.
I was actually afraid she was going to ninjamance me in ME3...
I romanced Thane, and I too wish there would have been a more heartfelt goodbye or an I love you or.. something. Instead, I go back to the Normandy and no one acknowledges that he died. Not even Joker? really?

The canon romance for Reven is Bastila. Was she universally relatable or likeable?Sixth Goul wrote...
Nop, no canon it has to be someone atleast universually relateable/or likeable for most people.
