Hey everyone,

I see a lot of people asking "is x considered cheating" or "will I get banned for x" - A good rule of thumb is if you question the legitimacy (and intention) of something then it is probably against the rules. We have different ways of dealing with different types of offences (including severity of said offence).

If you have any questions feel free to PM me/post them here and I'll get to them as soon as possible.

Regards,

Thomas Abram

If you are unsure, then it's probably against the rules?  WOW.  Just WOW.

In fairness to them they are more than likely reciting from some memo passed down from their corporate overlords.  Doesn't excuse it, but maybe it explains the lack of tact.

One time I was playing as a Human Female Vanguard on Gold, and soon after I noticed my nova attacks did instant kills on Geth Primes. This initially surprised AND confused, made me wonder how this happened. Normal novas wouldn't deal that large amount of damage even on bigger bosses like Primes and Banshees .

Then it hit me the host was also Vanguard, and did the same thing as me. I pretty much guessed the host made it so that any Vanguard wielders could deal instant-death novas. It got boring very quickly and I left to fight REAL battles.

If you have been manipulating the game with 3rd party software or changed game data manually (if you know how to) then you're cheating. It does not even matter if you think it is just minor or cosmetic. It can have all sorts off effects. Basically people who cheat know it. Some are just like ... oh well this is just a minor thing. Like people who think taking stuff from hotel rooms home are not stealing because it's not a big thing or because stuff like that is contained in the price. They are wrong, it is stealing. Any honest player knows he didn't do anything wrong. Don't expect Bioware to give you guidelines how to cheat. Because giving you a list of things that you may not do is just resulting in people trying it.

It's always the same really, nothing to gain in this game and people still can't play fair. One reason why I stopped playing MP. The other is the real money thing. Not sure why Bioware thinks it is a good idea to pay for better gear with real money but obviously, if you don't plan to spend real money on it you are disadvantaged to those who do. Basically that's a cheat already. Just that Bioware is getting paid to allow you cheating. And I wouldn't be surprised if some cheaters take exactly this as an excuse for cheating.

Anyway, bottomline, games are only fun if they are fair.

Bioware's statement, it seems, is simply saying that just because you can do it, doesn't mean you should. Again, though, cheaters abound in everything. It might ruin your experience of a game that you joined, but unless you are going to start writing code for ME3, there's a limited number of options. Whatchagonnado?

Play the game as it's intended.

Don't cheat.

Etc.

It's sad that the staff can't entrust their users to have common sense and know the difference between "actual game mechanic" and "exploit", but apparently they are going to have to hold everybody's hands and tell them word-for-word the difference. And THEN, everybody will just argue that they are wrong anyway. Because why the Hell not.

Those are the exact words I would have put it in.

If your conscience tells you that it is probably bad.... then odds are that it is. Why do you think your conscience tells you that murder is bad?.... Because it is.

He worded it perfectly, leave him alone.

Not sure exactly what you're asking.

If you're implying that somebody uses the credit exploit and then decides, with their better judgement, to stop: That person probably won't get banned. They only ban for "massive credit gain"- but in this case, that person would probably just get the cheated credits taken away, and whatever item they bought with them.

Here is the mathematical breakdown between glitching for the credits vs playing legitimately for the credits, as I can only imagine thats what you were asking.

That is about EXP gain, not credit gain.
Edit: Hacking = Memory Editing to get more creds.

The post I referred him to has both the XP AND CREDIT BREAKDOWNS.  Relevant.

Except that the glitch has nothing to do with hacking. Hacking is breaking the games code for more credits.

I agree with the fact that it's bots so who cares were not competing with each other. But if it's something that really affects our gaming Experiance to the point that we can't have fun then something should be done. The only thing I do hate are the map glitches that can get annoying like people floating or falling through the map and reappearing in another area of the map those glitches can get annoying when people keep exploiting them and make our Experiance less fun. I agree with bioware being careful because glitches and cheats are 2 different things yet some people will accuse people who exploit game glitches of being cheaters that's not correct in my views. Remember it's a team multiplayer game you compete against bots not each other.

Why do people care so much about what other people do with their credits and how they get them to me this is no more then jealously. How does this affect anyone really when we are all on the same team. Really the only people it would affect would be bioware since people can buy credits they are the ones losing out on making extra money.

ghostz82,

For me it's simple.

If I'm playing a game where cheaters are automatically given an automatic laser blaster to play but I get a bb gun?

That game isn't fun for me anymore.

Examples of games I have bailed on:

- I suddenly have unlimited ammo
- The guy hosting has a sniper rifle that fires repeatedly without pause so by the time I reload, all the targets are dead
- The Vanguard in the group automatically kills anything he teleports to

They've wasted my time and I'm old and gray.  My time is precious to me ;)

First:

It is really silly to say that the only reason you would report somebody for cheating is jealousy. We could ALL do the credit glitch- we have nothing to be jealous of. It's not like they have more skill, or they're some sort of s00per l33t h4ckerz. For most people, somebody else either told them, or they saw it on Youtube.. And it's something that everybody else could do, but we choose not to, because we know it's wrong.

Second:

It's wrong for exactly the reason you said. It affects Bioware. I could care less what your opinion of the company is- we all agreed to the same Terms of Service, and if we violate them, they have every right to punish us. If people don't want to get punished, they just plain shouldn't cheat. It's not rocket science.

Why do you care if other people care?

Posting in this thread probably isn't going to help you, whether you were banned unfairly or not. If you'd like to contest your ban, I would suggest actually talking to a staff member privately- either through EA Support, or by messaging one of the active staff members that you might see posting in this forum.

Calmly and carefully explain yourself, and if you were actually honest and not cheating ( or did not allow anyone else to play using your account ) then the whole matter should be sorted out.

Best of luck to you.
