Here is another thing that supports this theory.

Take a look at Saren from ME 1. When you fight him on Virmire didn't he try to say that Organic and Synthetic life were the pinnacle of evolution? He tries to tell Shepard that the council races NEED to submit to the reapers and become synthesized, Saren voices it differently but it's there

Jumping to TIM, the other main antagonist, he says that controlling the reapers is the only way to save the world. Again it can't work because reaper tech indoctrinates every one, pretty much as a hobby.

So lets put everyone in front of the endings.

Synthesis = Saren = indoctrinated

Control = TIM = indoctrinated

Destroy = Anderson = the only person that doesn't have reaper tech or has been indoctrinated.

COINCIDENCE????????

With the rate threads are speeding along the past few days I might have missed it, but has anyone covered why TIM was able to control Shep & Anderson in the first place?

I figured Shep because of the implants, but if TIM's control is confined to Reapers, why does Anderson fall under that umbrella? Or.. what did I miss?

TIM is able to control them in that scene because they are ALL Shepard. This is happening in his head. Shepard's humanity is represented by Anderson, and the part of his mind that is indoctrinated is represented by TIM. This conversation represents Shepard's internal fight against indoctrination. AT least thats how the theory goes. Its all in the original post.

Was more looking for the counter argument.  Haven't seen one, yet I don't see it pop often to back up the Indoc Theory, so I was wondering if I missed something obvious.

All excellent points, thanks for putting the list together so well. Also, am I the only one who read a lot into the last scene with the child and the stargazer? When the kid asked for another story about Shepard there was just so much emphasis on "alright. just one more." To me that was bioware saying Shepard's story wasn't really over, but maybe I read too much into it. Thoughts?

The indoctrination theory is the only reason I can keep playing this game in the hope that the real ending will soon be released.

Hold the line.

About Hackett contacting Shepard.... if I'm not mistaken the Marine Chick plus Coats say over the airwaves that nobody survived... if they didn't say that I'm pretty positive that they say that nobody made it into the citadel. With that being said if Shepard actually was heading to the beam they would have seen her. Another note... since Shepard or Anderson didn't say " Hackett we made it on the Citadel" so how the HELL did Hackett know Shepard was there? He couldn't have. If anything he heard Coat say that NOBODY made it on the Citadel.

Also even if Hackett did somehow know she made it there... why did he shut up after space magic brought Shepard to god child... when I was on the Cerberus base Hackett didn't seem to leave Shepard alone even at one point getting nasty telling her that this isn't Akuse (that's my sheps background) and that everybody is going to make it out alive. So surely after one radio transmission with Shepard he wouldn't just give up.

Only explanation is it was all in Shepard's head and he didn't contact her.

I support this because I want it to be true. If this had been done on purpose, it would be the greatest game ending ever.

Also, that would explain why it was so easy to reach the "crucible console" from the beam. I mean, come on, a lot of corpses, a sliding wall and we're there already? I don't buy that.

One of the biggest and most obvious points to me.... is of all you have to do is beam me up scotty to the Citadel why the hell would Harbinger up and leave the scene while he can clearly see Shepard making her way to the beam lol I mean its just so freaking silly to think. The guy can "assume direct control" from across the galaxy on the collectors but he can't notice Shepard is steps away from the beam of light? Haha yeah bull crap!

If its not an indoctrination vision, then how the hell did Anderson get there? He says he "followed" Shepard into the beam, yet he somehow beats you to the console. Not only that, where is the path to another hallway? Far as I can tell the only way to get to the console room is the way you came.

Well.... if the indoc theory wasn't the intent of the endings and we are supposed to take them at face value... all I have to say... is it has to be maybe the most horribly written stuff I've ever seen. Every single scene from after you get blasted by harby.... has NUMEROUS plot holes and wtfs all through it. Its actually hard to not see wtfs all over the place! Besides Clint Mansell and his beautiful and haunting music... if these endings are to be taken at face value... in my opinion. Complete and total epic failure in which will go down in history as the perfect example on how to NOT END A GAME.

Especially such an impacting and beautiful story... trilogy... something a lot of of have grown to love over the course of years.... I miss my Shepard... I want her back. I want to able to play through her saga again and again but unless Bioware pulls through I just won't be able to. ;(

Totally agree. It sucks that we're forced to conclude that it's either a DLC ending or some of the most pathetic writing ever to grace science fiction.
As I said in my original post, the ending itself isn't even as bad as we think. It's just executed soooo poorly. All the plot holes, and total disregard for the countless hour of gameplay. I know a lot of people are saying its biowares game and they can end it how they want to. I disagree. This has always been OUR story. That is the single most defining characteristic of the Mass Effect experience, and what sets it apart from other games.

IF this theory turns out to be true it may be the greatest ending to a game ever, however as it stands now its just generically dull, too many self sacrificial stories and the ME universe warrants more.

Very very true.... when I have played all three games.... (especially!!!!!! ME3 because I think Jennifer Hale pulls out the best voice acting I've ever heard.........ever!) I have said... that is MY Shepard! This was My Shepard's story! It was my time to "Take back earth" and take down the reapers! And no..... not with the use of space magic...
