One thing to nitpick other than the ending...unintentially flirtatious dialouge options

Ok so I am a straight guy who hated Ashley so I picked Kaidan cause I thought he was pretty cool. Then in this game if you are nice to him he ends up making a move on you and then you have to crush him by saying you just want to stay friends.

My contention is basically this: why assume we wanted a gay relationship if we kept Kaidan and were nice to him? Nothing my Shepard did should have made Kaidan think I was gay, all I did was try to ressurect our friendship. Besides, he saw I was with Liara/Miranda the whole time.

And finally, I have nothing against there being gay options, I just think this one was a bit forced on you and you HAD to make Kaiden feel like crap if you are a straight guy no matter what (either by being a dick to him on Mars or by turning him down when he gets all emotional).

I never had any problems with Kaidan trying to romance me.

Anyway, it's no different than Liara in ME1.

that happens in real life though.

I think it's because of the rather binary path the romance takes. Need more options, as you say.

True, but then again Asari go for any Species/Gender combo so it's a bit different for them.

I let Kaiden die because I hated him, but I had no problem letting Cortez know I wasn't interested without crushing him.

He has catharsis in telling you how he feels and relief knowing how you feel, and now is able to concentrate better on the task at hand.

I did the same thing, except was with Miranda.

I mean, telling him you're brothers afterwards kind of alleviates the pain and awkwardness and now that moment is gone.  It's all better after that.

honestly i brought up this concern before ME3 came out, not wanting to see another Anders situation, but i was actually really impressed with how well it was handled. Cortez was gay and proud, we could be bros and he never made me feel uncomfortable.

Same thing goes for the new Yeoman, i hit on her knowing she was gay and she even let me down gently ;) well done all around

well done bioware, nice recovery

Everyone thinks it's okay if it's Shepard.

I think bioware had enough on their plate finishing this game without having to worry about promoting social change. but they chose their battles.

It's not a 'gay' thing, it's a limitation of the dialogue system, and why it may be time to upgrade to DA2-style icons.

That, and Shepard just seems to spray their air with 'hump me' pheremones. I'm surprised Harbinger isn't asking for a date.

I've been hit on gay dudes before. I politely blew them off. I SAID BLEW THEM OFF.

Whaaaat? Kaiden is eligible for gay romance? That is almost enough for me to want to play a male Shepard and actually save the guy.

As male shep I always found the light above Kaiden's station a bit unsettling whenever talking to him

Really? I was nice to him the whole time and I didn't even know he was romancable untill I checked the wiki.
I thought Cortez might be but the only time it came up was when we were at the bar and I told him I was checking out the dancers...

Maybe you just knew it was coming and though everything he said was a come on.

there's no need to be rude to the gay characters, iirc almost all relationships have an option that says "let's keep it professional" that lets you avoid them and is perfectly polite.

Yeah well why could Femshep never ask Jacob about his day without having to sound like she wanted to rip his clothes off with her teeth in ME2?

Sides, so what Kaiden expressed interest in Maleshep. And you can turn him down. And? He'd probably have done with my FemShep too if I hadn't already re-established her relationship with Liara.

well in reality you can't really be rude to the gay characters in terms of their sexuality, only in terms of other things like Kaiden's assusatory Carth-like nature of Shepard being with Cerberus still.

If you're not interested, just tell him no! It's just what you would do in real life (I hope), and it's what you say to any of the female LI's that you don't want to pursue. Say, "I'm sorry, but you might have gotten the wrong idea. You're a good friend, but I'm pretty committed to Liara." Yeah, you hurt his feelings, but isn't that how it would play out in reality? Kaidan is at least appreciative that you care about his feelings enough to be honest.

I decided to get back with Liara after romancing Miranda in ME2, and if you think that talk went well, then . . .

The problem is you CAN'T be friendly to him the whole time without it leading to the emotional coming out scene. It's like if you and Garrus were total bros and then he came out before TIM's base. Just not expecting it at all.

I really don't see the problem. He says "You're a nice guy Shepard, I'm romantically interested in you" and you can say "Sorry Kaiden, not interested".

I mean I never understand why the mere existence of a gay or bi character is "forcing it" on anyone.
