As male shep I always found the light above Kaiden's station a bit unsettling whenever talking to him

I reread the post. Yeah, I felt bad turning him down because he seemed crushed, but both I and my Shep were straight, not to mention he was trying to steal Shep away from Liara . . . the hussy.

Personally, I chose the Kaidan relationship - but he never came across as forcefully "you must loooove meee!" All he does is just say, "while in hospital it made me think about things" and you have the choice of saying something that turns the conversation into one of relationships and love or keeping it friendly.

I felt that the whole Kaidan/male Shepard relationship was really well done. It felt central to the story and very natural. It was probably the best s/s romance I've seen from Bioware if not the best Bioware romance full stop. (I haven't seen the other ME3 romances, so I can't really comment. :))

How is this any different than having liara try to romance my femshep? Or having the lesbian romance person come into my quarters then suddenly be in my shower and offer to have me join in?

I don't really care, i just say no. This stuff happens in real life too, all you have to say is no.

Yeah well why could Femshep never ask Jacob about his day without having to sound like she wanted to rip his clothes off with her teeth in ME2?

Sides, so what Kaiden expressed interest in Maleshep. And you can turn him down. And? He'd probably have done with my FemShep too if I hadn't already re-established her relationship with Liara.

The problem is you CAN'T be friendly to him the whole time without it leading to the emotional coming out scene. It's like if you and Garrus were total bros and then he came out before TIM's base. Just not expecting it at all.

I really don't see the problem. He says "You're a nice guy Shepard, I'm romantically interested in you" and you can say "Sorry Kaiden, not interested".

I mean I never understand why the mere existence of a gay or bi character is "forcing it" on anyone.

I never said anything about forcing it, I just said there was a lack in choice between what being friendly and what being rude did...

Steve Cortez is better. My manshep is with Tali but if he was going the other way Steve is way better than Kaidan. Kaidan is whiny.

True, but then again she is asexual really.

Never had a problem with this. Never even came across any gay relationship possibilities with Kaiden.

Cortez yeah but if you tell him you're interested in women when you meet him the club on the citadel it will also steer into friendship.

Hell i really liked how the friendship with Kaiden progressed maybe it had something to do with me Shepard still having an LI from ME2 ( even though it was Tali that you meet pretty late in the campaign ).

I mean you talk about crushing Kaidens hopes but i never saw him making anything what would resemble interest in my Shep.

Yeah, it felt a bit out of place, but more choices is always better than less. I was just really hoping for a three way.

So? A lot of my female friends have been hit on by Liara and various other Asari while playing straight femsheps throughout the games and, while they've felt a bit weirded out because they never showed any interest, they have simply let them down as easily as possible. As a lesbian (or at least Liara-sexual) femshep I got hit on by Kaiden in ME1 despite already showing plenty of interest in Liara. Whatever. It hasn't been a huge "omg this makes the games suck" deal for us, we've just dealt with it. Now you know our mild annoyance. I don't know anything about the Kaiden romance because I always pick Ashley at Virmire but I for one felt that Steve was one of the best things about ME3, he just felt so natural and real.

well..technically the asari just reproduce themselves with new dna from the other person. but I get how you were trying to troll me, that's pretty clever.

Absolutely not IMHO. The Kaidan romance is really well written, and Kaidan comes across as strong and confident - not whiny. Cortez, on the other hand, keeps coming across as just trying to forget his dead husband.

I've been really impressed with the Kaidan/mShep storyline - it even makes the scenes between them in the previous games have more subtext too - which is a credit to the writing.

Cortez is no where near as rewarding a romance to play through.

Kaiden was kinda pulling an Anders wasn't he? One of my friends, he hasn't beaten the game yet. But he plays a male shepard and was joking "Oh my god why does every guy want to bang me?!" He's supportive of homosexuals so he wasn't being hateful. Gave me a good laugh. I just picture his character clinging to Tali who was his romance all "Oh thank god they'll stop now"

No he was no trying to troll you. Asari are monogendered. Asexual means you have no interest in sex. your sexual orientation is that you have no desire to have sex in any way.

Yes...trolling is trying to get a ragey reaction when you already know what the other person meant. You know what I meant with Liara. Don't worry, I'm still not angry.

Yes, it would, and that's one of the best things about it and was why it felt natural to me. He was just there, being a person. Why should he be straight when it has just as much impact either way and the series is already full of straight men and bisexual women?

You can be nice to Cortez all the way its very well handled. When you meet him for drinks in purgutory just pick the option that basicly say's you will be eyeing up the female talent, he makes a joke about being relieved he wont have any competition from you.

I agree Anders was handled badly in DA2 although to be honest Male Hawkes rather blunt in that initial conversation almost to the point of sounding homophobic - "I dont want you thinking about me in that way"

For some reason Cortez was never in Purgatory for me. It said he was there on the mini map but I didn't see him. Is that a bug?

My problem with these kind of topics is that they always seem to be variations on "WHY DID THE GAY MAN HIT ON ME HELP!". Even with this topic, the idea of character hitting on you in ME3 is in no way limited to the gay characters.

All the characters (gay or straight) seem to be out to bone Shepard and all the rejections seem mean.

If you want to have a gentler way to let down characters who hit on you, then just say that instead of bringing sexuality into it.
