That makes it sound like the interview took place when the endings were first being actively discussed on here, about 4-5 days prior to actual release.
I'm pretty sure if that were more recent, the news articles, hundreds of threads, thousands of votes across polls, price drop in games, and 2.5-3 star ratings on Amazon would've been mentioned by the interviewer.
I second this. The way he was talking sounded a lot more like it was pre-launch. I really doubt that BioWare would deliver a sucker-punch like that after all this in that manner (through a random interview). Hold the line, people!
Eh I'm not sure if the interviewer would have mentioned it regardless. The gaming media is not exactly known for asking hard questions of people that they partially rely on to pay their bulls.
Good point - asking a question like that would've really put him on the spot and calling him out like that would've ensured that they would get no further interviews with Bioware... if the interview is recent.

I have yet to personally come across a single human being who actually enjoyed the endings to the ME series. Way to throw away a reserved seat to the "Greatest Video Game Series Ever Hall of Fame" by fumbling at the 1-yard line.

What are you most proud of with this third game in the franchise?
I think what I’m most proud of is that we’ve told a story that will be remembered. I think so much of what we set out to do was create something that would be a memorable experience for people that they would think about after they played it. There’s so much throwaway entertainment out there. I didn’t just want to make something that was essentially the videogame version of a popcorn movie. I wanted to make something huge and exciting and the biggest thing possible that felt like a blockbuster and had that big action science fiction feel.
Somehow I'm reminded of the band playing as the Titanic slowly slips down into the Atlantic.

So, basically he is saying, "We wanted a strong reaction no matter what; even if the reaction is that most people are pissed and feel let down. That we upset so many people off is a success by our standards."
I get the distinct feeling that Bioware has a bit of a god complex...a lot like the reaper-god, or whatever the kid thing was. Let's just not question them further or risk blaspheming.
You know what... I'm really starting to agree with this line of that... I'm really this is getting point where either they A. can't read and comprehend at a adult level or B. They are so used to people sucking up them that they believe whole heartedly they can do know wrong..
and I am really starting to lean towards B.
I really don't know if it applies here, but it could.

I think this Image pretty much sums up how screwed we were from the begining
This image is misleading and Casey Hudson is completely correct.
There's only one ending - it just comes in three colors.

Thank you for at least answering the question more directly, even if it has a lot of spin on it.
Given I waited five years for the conclusion of Mass Effect, I think I'll check in on Bioware in five years since they decided that was an appropriate amount of my time to waste.
Game over, client/customer relationship over.

ME did not need the screwjob ending. It would have been way more memorable without it.

30,000 people saying "THE ENDING SUCKS, CHANGE IT" is not a debate about meaning...
It's more akin to a bunch of your friends saying "Get off the ****ing tracks! There's a TRAIN coming."
Plugging your ears and going "Lalalalala" will not magically deflect the train.
No matter what color your space magic is.
