Calm down, people. As many have said, either he's just playing the PR game, or the interview was conducted before the whole buzz about the endings started up. Also as many have said, throwing insults at Bioware for messing up the endings is only going to worsen the situation. Be civil, and most importantly, don't give up hope just because of one interview! I don't like the endings either, but if we really want something to be done, we must keep pressing the issue, and show how committed to getting a new ending we loyal fans are! Hold the line people, hold the line!

I agree wholeheartedly.  It's his job to keep smiliing and trying to convince the public everything is ok.  We also don't know when the interview was done.  I also believe the feedback quote many have posted is quite relevant.  They have shown a remarkable willingness to adapt to our wishes when we provide feedback

Everyone remembers Casey's stance on planet scanning, he loved it.  No one understood why, he called it strangely addicting.  Obviously, we felt differently. It's gone now, and all rejoice.  We expressed our concern over Liara being so overlooked in ME2, bam, she gets a whole DLC that makes her even more prominent in the galaxy.  That's not to say that it wasn't their plan all along for her though, I believe it was.  The counter is that we never did get a Virmire survivor DLC, but we can't have it all I suppose.  They did do a terrific job with the survivor in this game however.  (I can only speak for Ashley though, Kaiden never made it out of Virmire with me).

Insulting Bioware gets us no where, fast.  People close themselves up when attacked, or respond in kind.  There's no need for it.  We are all, or many of us at least, so passionate about this because we love the franchise and feel it deserves a better ending than it received.  We've all invested time, money, emotions, and some have even invested their creativity into Mass Effect.  We want it to be the best it can be because we believe in it and we're angry/upset/disappointed/heartbroken now because up until the end, it was on the verge of being something truly amazing, and then fell flat on its face.

We have no way of knowing what happened, but we can request that they listen to our thoughts and consider revising it.  It's not unheard of to change something for the fans.  Certainly, the gaming industry is in a unique market where they can do such a thing.  We'll never have Star Wars redone simply because we wish the Prequels were better.  But, in this instance, we are simply asking for them to look at the ending they have created, listen to how we are reacting to it, and decide if they could do better and if it is the right move for them.  Obviously, it would cost them to do it the "right" way.  Provide us with an apology, explain the ending they had in mind and deliver a free alternate ending DLC.  But, this would create a tremendous amount of goodwill in my mind.  I would like to think other's would also look on this as a great move by the company which would restore their faith.  Afterall, we all make mistakes.  I'm sure they thought we would like the ending, but now it's time to revisit that idea given the reaction.

Barring a free DLC, I would be willing to pay because I do realize that it costs money for voice actors and the staff to create these endings.  True, they should have been that way to begin with, but as mentioned earlier, maybe they thought it was a good ending.  Sometimes things don't go as planned.  However, the gaming industry is in the unique situation of being able to cater to the wishes of their customers through DLC.  Bioware should seize this opportunity to at least rectify the situation with some/many of its fans, depending on where you fall in the debate for whether the DLC should be free or not, if they did create one.

In short, I still support Bioware and Mass Effect, I just wish for them to create a new ending DLC of some kind to rectify the situation.  I'm even willing to pay.  On principle, I shouldn't have to, but I recognize the costs in doing so could be prohibitive of them undertaking the project for free.  I also grant them some goodwill for the truly masterful job they did on the everything else in the game, up til the point Shepard falls on the elevator and it raises.

This is entirely too level headed and logical to argue with

lol Don't lose faith if nothing else EA likes the money we have. At some point with lost sales they will force the hand or move the title to another Dev easy as that. Anyone can say "oh blah blah deep thought blah baby goats blah blah jazz fingers" (sorry If I missed a blah but I think that's a direct quote) but EA likes money.... This might be the only time ever EAs love of our cash might work for us.

yeah that is why I have hope.  EA now owns Bioware and large companies hate lost revanue, that is why they make such a big stink over people pirating games even when they sell 3.5 million copies in one week. No matter how much money thety make they know if it comes out they are losing money sharholder will hit the roof.  Bioware answers to EA and EA answers to share holders so if we hold the line and more people cancel Star Wars accounts there is still hope that this will get fixed either with DLC or a ME4 made by another team that will undo the ending of ME3.

Here is my dream for future ME3 DLC; Content that address Shepard taking a breath in the rubble just before the credits roll, and you retake Omega w/ Aria and finally put a bullet in TIM's head.

But think about it, if he gave ANY indication of "ending" DLC, it would ruin the illusion of the indoctrination scene, and the illusion that the end was the real end "which it isn't". He is just trying not to spoil it yet (albeit in a trollish way)

They had such a great thing going until some writer decided to impress his old college English Professor and stopped writing Star Wars and started writing 2001. And guess what folks...2001 isnt good game material.

The fact that they LIKE the reaction their fans are having, though, is mildly disturbing. I certainly don't get off on people lambasting me because I decided to have a banana sandwich end to my story.

There are two ways too look at the reaction.  One is the negative, everyone hates our game now.  The other is that all these people are angry because they love the game so much.  So there is a silver lining to the reaction.

loved.

Past tense.

Personally I still love the Mass Effect universe, and all the games (minus the last 10 minutes of 3).  The ending of  does mean I won't be getting anymore DLC than the one I got though unless they change the end.

In regards to the quote from the posted interview, there is a major difference between creating something that causes debate and speculation from the fans in a positive regard, and creating debate and speculation that causes tens-of-thousands of your fans to swear they will never buy another of your products. One is good for business, the other is not so good for business. Guess which one you gave us.

Very nicely said.

Yeah...

I'm done investing any money into Bioware games at this point. I'll have to read the reviews (from fans and players) before purchasing one ever again. And getting involved in any continuations is out of the question.

Bioware just isn't the company it used to be.

Guys, he's not saying that it's done. He's just saying that they really like the fact that the way the endings, AS THEY STAND NOW, are getting people talking and debating and theorizing. This doesn't mean this is all they have planned for the endings, this doesn't mean all of our theorycrafting is out the window, it just means that they're enjoying watching us debate. They could still intend to release more endings, or make each new DLC affect and change the ending (my current theory), or leave things as they are.

IMO, all he is saying is he likes that the series means enough to us that we CARE if we didn't like the endings - we didn't just write it off and say 'oh well, next game'.

If you think their actually enjoying this bad PR I think we should be afraid, very afraid.

For those that don't want to read the entire interview, I'll copy and paste the question and answer here.

What are your thoughts on the reaction to the game’s endings?
I didn’t want the game to be forgettable, and even right down to the
sort of polarizing reaction that the ends have had with people–debating
what the endings mean and what’s going to happen next, and what
situation are the characters left in. That to me is part of what’s
exciting about this story. There has always been a little bit of mystery
there and a little bit of interpretation, and it’s a story that people
can talk about after the fact.
