I still don't understand the sheer hate towards the endings - most of the posts I come across are just "the ending sucked". I understand that the conversation with the catalyst could have had more to it and that it was odd that the Normandy had your squad on board and weren't even in the Sol system, but otherwise I was still satisfied by the whole thing. I'm clearly missing something, and I'm finding it very difficult to find a post that explains exactly what was wrong beyond the simple statements that keep getting repeated. :/

www.youtube.com/watch

Those are just a couple of quickies.  There are walls of text posts that get into a hell of a lot more detail.

That gamefront one doesn't even mention that the whole point of me1 and the series was that the reapers couldn't get in through the citadel relay because they had no way to activate it.  If the catalyst AI is housed in the citadel all it really had to do was push a virtual red button and the entire series doesn't even need to happen.

For those that don't want to read the entire interview, I'll copy and paste the question and answer here.

What are your thoughts on the reaction to the game’s endings?
I didn’t want the game to be forgettable, and even right down to the
sort of polarizing reaction that the ends have had with people–debating
what the endings mean and what’s going to happen next, and what
situation are the characters left in. That to me is part of what’s
exciting about this story. There has always been a little bit of mystery
there and a little bit of interpretation, and it’s a story that people
can talk about after the fact.

It's just traditional corporate double talk. He's talking around the issue, not at it. It's nothing personal on his part, just the way Press dept's force him to talk

"and it’s a story that people can talk about after the fact."

'Hey remember Mass Effect 3?'
'Oh yeah that game..'
'So, what color did you get? Red, Green, or Blue?
'I don't remember, they were all so similar.'
'Same, that's cool.'

Some epic conversation that was..

Man, Casey was my bro. I believed in him bringing this home with a satisfying conclusion. I just cant believe that he would put his name on this travesty and be content about it.

I hope its just him talking around it while we wait for the announcement of real endings. Hope is all I have left.

Of course we won't forget the ending. It will make Mass Effect infamous.

Anytime a developer drops a crap ending it may very well come to be to known as "pulling a Mass Effect".

I don't think he actually understands what we're talking about...we aren't debating, we're trying to make sense of the non-sensical. This just proves that they aren't listening at the moment...

Or that they're employing translators to interpret everything we say into Marketspeak. You know, that incomprehensible foreign language that makes everything sound salable.

So THAT's why all those omniblades they gave out were inflatable and harmless. Didn't want to arm a legion of angry fans.

It's so sad that you can honestly ask other fans about the ending in this way.

There really isn't any other way to look at it when talking about the ending!

It is honestly a matter of "What color did you pick?" and, if you're overly curious, "Who walked out of your Normandy?"

Guys, there is a silver lining. If you click on the link and read the next section of the interview, he says that there's more DLC coming and that what they do with it will be influenced by fan opinion of the game, so don't give up hope yet.

I know what the endings really mean.  The reaper of all reapers told us to do something and we did it.

It means the reapers won.

Seriously, the problem with the end isn't that it's sad, it's that until fifteen minutes before the game ended they were telling a completely different story.

arty for the sake of being arty to make it unfortgettable and to make fans debate the meaning of the end.. well you are certainly making people try and work out what the hell you have done and why.

ive given up on bioware, i dont care anymore about future dlc, i dont care if they change the ending, the damage is done and its soured the experience. as far as im concerned my shepard bled out reaching for the console and hallucinated the rest, the reapers won and in 50,000 years aliens discover liara's gift and find out about shepards story.

let them deal with the crap ending.

Does that mean fans that actually liked the ending or do the fans that did not like the ending influence it too? Really not going to pay for some new dlc that gives me few new side quest so I can get more war assets or fan voted appereance pack. That ship blew up with the mass relays.

Anyways pretty normal damage control comment.. if they can't give us real comment before april 7th I'm done with bioware and EA for good.

I see it as little twisted to do that kind of unforgettable ending just so fans can wonder forever. I mean I'm getting really tired of debate already.. It's just pointless to debate about fictional universe.

either he is not admitting the mistake they made or hiding something ... besides why would they say hold on to your saves, there will be Mass effect 3 epilogue .... if there is not such ending or conclusion dlc, I can be sure that most of us, are not going back to Mass effect series after receiving such fatal blow from so called ending (indoctrination)

UNBELIAVABLE.

You stole our money because we still had faith in Bioware and bought the game, you don't listen to reason because the endings suck worldwide and our choices are mearly "pick your color dude, flashy space magic". With one statement you just lost 40k fans. Grats man.

I'm outta here, i'll probably start insulting him. Nevertheless I WILL HOLD THE LINE.

I don't think a re write of the end will happen. I do fully expect post ending DLC to clear up things though.

Just a standard reply. He's not just gonna tell some random interviewer: "ye we kinda messed up here, I still don't know what we were thinking".

That said, his arguments are obviously very flawed. They could've replaced everything after shephard got hit with the beam by a 5 minute video of a dancing Hitler followed by the endcredits and gotten a same fan response. Now tell me, does thist mean the scenario I just described is a clever ending?

I really hope people don't take this as a reason to give up.

We all know that Bioware is going to try and drive people away from the ending controversy in the pursuit of sales. As a company, I figure it's pretty much a given.

But don't give up hope. If people continue to show their problems with the ending, then Bioware will be prompt to answer in a more straight forward manner.

In fact, reacting negatively to a comment like this might actually prompt a direct response sooner.

I agree.  A controversial ending is not necessarily a clever one.  People shouldn't have to spend a long time convincing themselves about what it all means.

Like the Matrix, for example.  If you listen closely to the architect, you know what's going on.  You don't have to make excuses for it outside of the story.
