"debating what the endings mean"

So their objective from the start was to have an ending that intentionally made no sense. Wow.

WOWWWWWWWWWW

Nah, I bet he's talking about the morality behind Synthesis and whether it's an ethical decision. Not the plotholes, space magic, and OOCness.

These are the people that MADE the universe.  They have to know how f***ing stupid everything is.  I can't believe everyone is capable of seeing the stupidly except them.

Then again who knows.  They made godchild, the reason behind the reapers and something as ridiculous as synthesis an option (i burst out laughing when the kid started explaining it).  Just inventing crap that in the ME world shows you are clearly short a few brain cells.

That's about what I thought they'd feel, actually.

'It provoked a response, any response! What awesome storytellers we are!'

We need to level our Charm/Intimidate scores. Convince 'em otherwise.

So, basically he is saying, "We wanted a strong reaction no matter what; even if the reaction is that most people are pissed and feel let down.  That we upset so many people off is a success by our standards."

I get the distinct feeling that Bioware has a bit of a god complex...a lot like the reaper-god, or whatever the kid thing was.  Let's just not question them further or risk blaspheming.

This really isn't surprising though, given Casey's interview history. The man will say absolutely anything to sell the game.

That makes it sound like the interview took place when the endings were first being actively discussed on here, about 4-5 days prior to actual release.

I'm pretty sure if that were more recent, the news articles, hundreds of threads, thousands of votes across polls, price drop in games, and 2.5-3 star ratings on Amazon would've been mentioned by the interviewer.

I second this. The way he was talking sounded a lot more like it was pre-launch. I really doubt that BioWare would deliver a sucker-punch like that after all this in that manner (through a random interview). Hold the line, people!

Own up to what? They wrote the ending they wanted to write and clearly have some sort of DLC plan that may explain what happened in greater detail. Just because you and others don't like the ending doesn't mean they need to own up to anyhing. There are plenty of people who like the endings.

Ehhhhhh .... not really.

Actually, people who liked the ending seem to be a delightful minority.

Actually, plenty of people are debating what they think happened. There are a ton of theories all over this site and other less hostile sites.

The reason people are coming up with their own theories is that it's the only way to make sense of what we got. It's not because the ending was compelling, it's because it makes no sense on it's own.

Apparently abstract and nonsequitor, is synonymous with artistic and memorable, especially when coupled with a metatextual grandpa.

Artistic my fat krogan ass, it strikes me as arrogant, pretentious, and dripping with delusions of grandeur.

Nailed it.

--I'm not even going to risk it--

I might get modded for that, but I'm serious.

Good. People will remember your game. They'll remember how terrible the ending was and the massive negative reaction it generated.

Apparently we are in Soviet Russia, because "We are just so upset with the players" has flipped around.

I kind of wanna die.

Reminds me of a line from King of the Hill:

Bobby: "Is it ok that I feel like I don't want to live anymore?"
Hank: "Yes, Bobby, that's normal."

Just substitute Bobby for any random fan and Hank for Casey Hudson, et voila!

I'm going to get some work done, and when I return, I expect this page to be at least 100 pages.

Eh I'm not sure if the interviewer would have mentioned it regardless. The gaming media is not exactly known for asking hard questions of people that they partially rely on to pay their bulls.

They lied about what was in the game. They explicitly said that they wouldn't pull a "Lost". They explicitly said that we would get a broad array of possible endings that accounted for our actions throughout the 3 games. This is why we happily gave them our money in exchange for their game.

They lied to get our money.

Dude, I get that they wanted to have an ending where there was a major choice you had to make, and none of the choices had you get all your cake and eat it too. That would have been fine. It would have been cool if some endings had you preserving the Relays, but you die, or others had you destroying them but surviving. I get that they wanted people to debate which would be the lesser of two evils.

But making all three endings almost identical and equally nonsensical/not explained does not make for good debate, it makes for people grasping at straws and trying to rationalize what the balls just happened.

It's clear we have to direct our protests at Ea and get them to do something since Bioware doesn't seem to have the brains God gave tree moss,if they did they would know we are not debating what the ending means.
