I had about 20 e-mails when I downloaded Datapad, the earliest one being from Hackett about the Geth/Quarian resolution, the middle ones about Horizon, and the last from Ash about sleepless nights. I didn't get the visit one.

I'm pretty sure they are from when you start the game. I re-started the game just briefly right after I finished it and received a similar message from Kaidan. "Hey, Commander. Thought I might come down to see you today--if they let me. Here's hoping." Otherwise the last message I got before the end mission was from Garrus saying he believed in me. Hah...

When I played my m!Shep and saw Kaidan again at the start of the game, Shep didn't even know that he'd been promoted and was surprised to see him, so I doubt they were sending messages back and forth before then. Is it different with Ashley? Cause if not, then yeah I have a hard time buying she'd be sending a message like that, given how things ended on Horizon.

And there's literally five minutes between you seeing the VS again and the Reapers attacking so I'm not sure they'd be "arranging a visit" in that time if you hadn't seen them until you went to talk to the committee. Seems like not enough time, especially since you aren't on great terms. I can buy that it's a glitch or something I guess but it's a weird one, if so.

I finished the game on the 11th, and have not yet started a new playthrough (cause I have real work to do ).

Can anyone confirm if you get similar emails from other love interests? If its only Ashley and Kaiden, then maybe its an email they send you when you're out and about and they are laid out in Huerta Memorial from the run-in with TIM's little pet from the Mars ruins.

Someone should ask about this on Twitter. Obviously do it discretely, since they won't directly answer questions about the end. Something like "will you get these messages after you beat the game?".

As far as I can tell you get one from the night together.  Received one from Garrus: "It's late.  Just got up for some water.  You're still asleep. Wanted to say how beautiful I think you are. Love G"  and then "Doubt any of us will be getting much sleep anytime soon.  But I believe in you." I think that one is after the Cerberus base or somewhere around there.  Nothing after the game, but my Shpe died so..

In the US Coast Guard, a Third class Petty Officer can be called Captain if they are in charge of a ship.

Captain is not a rank on a ship it is actually title on who runs the ship. Even Admiral's are claled Captains on ships in the NAVY and US Coast Guard.

If your enlisted in NAVY it will be extremely rare to Captain a ship, unlike US Coast Guard.

If these messages from Kaidan and Ashley are from the beginning of the game, why are they so surprised to see you? Why does FemShep react with surprise when she hears Kaidan got promoted to Major? It's obvious they haven't talked in awhile.. I believe Kaidan actually even begins to say "It's been too long"

Edit:  Not trying to speculate or imply anything. just curious as to what time frame these messages are actually supposed to be sent from.

Yes, I got it after I beat the game, and picked destroy. Yes, I got the message even though I died.

Has to be from beginning. Finished game where Kaidan is dead and got no message. Started new game with Femshep where Kaidan is alive, I then get a message saying he hopes to come down and see me. So unless Kaidan has returned from the dead........

They're surprised because Shepard never answers his e-mail, as already established in ME2.

Just downloaded it... and I immediately got a slew of new messages. The last one I got is dated 11.3, from EDI:

'Thank you for speaking with me about the Illusive Man. I cannot guarantee myself error-free, but I will do my best.' However, my internet shorted out a few hours before I finished the game...

I chose the control ending and I'm pretty sure Big Ben was standing when I finished. I'm going to go see if turning on my xbox and letting it update gets me more messages...

Same, my last one is about sleepless nights and it's sent by Liara (my LI).

Also my app is in french and I don't know how to change the language. fml

It's really not.  Don't get me wrong, I'd love for it to be something, but it's a message meant to be from the start of the game.  (I got mine at the start).  At the very least, it's entertaining.
