I'm... Not exactly sure how this is supposed to work...

People donate money to a cause to show an unrelated company that they're angry? Maybe I'm missing the point, but if you want those endings changed, that $40,000 should have gone to Bioware... Maybe then they'd consider it.

$44,000. And, as I understand it, the main intent of the drive is to channel our negative feelings generated by the ending and to turn it into something positive. Whether or not the endings are ultimately changed/altered/expanded upon is beside the point.

Disclaimer: I'm actually more or less OK with the endings. But I think this donation drive is the best idea ever.

It sends a strong message:
- That this is not a passing whim.
- That you are reasonable adults, and can be constructive about the matter.
- That you're willing to put your money where your mouth is.

Just keep in mind that, well, even with the best of intentions there is only so much that Bioware can actually do at this point.

We're donating money to relieve our negative feelings about the ending and instead channel them towards doing something positive. I'm pretty sure no one would send over $40k directly to Bioware; this is actively helping people, and if our message about the endings gets out there, then cool. If not, that's fine too, and a bunch of kids will find some happiness. Everyone wins :)

In the end, BioWare's actions are inconsequential (to me, at least). Lives have literally been changed. Maybe not saved, but that wasn't the intent of the choice - it is a fitting charity given the cause. We were disappointed, thus we offer something to look forward to and enjoy to those who need it most. That is happening. Period. And that alone has alleviated the funk I was in after the ending.

That's your personal opinion and it's a good one. But the petition home page says

"We therefore respectfully request additional ending be added to the game"

And that is what I'm responding to.

It's just to bring some good from the fanbase. It is sad that it took a game ending to get people to do this. But what sounds better? Kids getting video games. Or tons more nerd rage? I'll go with the happy kids.

True enough. But I did make it clear that it was my personal opinion. ^_^ I'd just like to get the general feeling out there that, even if you don't agree with the Retake movement's manifesto point for point (I do not), you shouldn't be discouraged from donating.

I might not agree with the whole "Retake Mass Effect" concept or the mission statement, but raising this much money for a good cause is still pretty amazing.

I try to stay positive. I was enraged back when ME2 came out, because of how they handled Liara and they pretty much fixed it with LOTSB.

Bioware should simply wise up and do the same here.

Everyone who likes the ending how it is now, could still choose that ending then, but for all of us not satisfied there would be way to gain a better one.

First off I gotta say I absolutely love this idea and plan on donating myself once I get my next paycheck. But there is one thing that I find quite ironic in the fact that we're doing a charity drive with Child's Play...

Child's Play helps improve the lives of children in hospitals through video games. Seeing how upset our community is with the ending, doesn't it seem a little satirical that some of the money we donate could go towards buying copies of ME3 for these kids to play and in effect causing them the same depression/confusion/anger that a lot of the community is experiencing?

I can only hope this wouldn't happen since ME3 is rated M.

They only procure age-appropriate material. And given that it's for pediatric hospitals (for the most part)...

The title is wrong.

The donation movement wasn't started to protest at the ending, it was started after a couple of articles in certain websites accused the angry fans to be a bunch of whiners with a deluded sense of entitlement (not an actual quote but that's the spirit of what was said).

The goal is to show they're wrong and that Mass Effect fans can also channel their frustration into something positive.

The goals of the donation drive are stated on the homepage and they are: A new ending for ME3.

$46000 is pocket change for EA xD

But seriously, thank you for this. Even though it might not work, atleast there is charity in it :-)
